How did you start lactating when you didn't carry the baby? Or does Donperadone start you lactating too?

So are you pumping and getting milk each time before you got to where you are at now? Bc I pump and will get the 4 ounces from each in 12 minutes but then it stops, and I pump after I put baby on each at a feeding and get just what she left. Am I supposed to keep pumping even when they’re empty? And are you still having enough for when it’s time for baby to eat again? I’m totally new at this is my 4th baby but first time I am breastfeeding.

Hi so the short answer is yes! Continuing to pump even after the milk has stopped is what is telling your body that you need more.

If you are only breastfeeding (no supplementing bottles) you actually don't have to pump to establish a good supply. Eat well and balanced, let your baby latch on whenever the, want. Ditch set feeding times, let your baby decide when it's time to nurse, when they want to suckle. Don't always give them a pacifier, give them your breasts even if they feel empty. The suckling will help your body establish a better supply. It takes about three weeks after birth for you milk production to adjust. Ofc if you have to go for several hours at a time (aka work) it's necessary to pump milk - one for your baby to have enough milk when you're away and second to keep your demand high so your supply doesn't drop after like 3 months. In general if you are worried about your supply being too low, Keep your baby latching on, keep pumping even when nothing is left anymore. If you only pump what's left your body gets the signal that he's producing just enough milk as the child is satisfied (aka pumping stops) after each feed. Overall Babys are better then pumps, they are more effective at drinking that the machine is. The stimulation is different for your breasts and hormones. Esp in the first 8-12 weeks do as much skin on skin time as you can fit in your day, carry your baby (carrier/wrap) & let the baby decide to nurse whenever they like to. Skin contact and carrying will produce more oxytocin in your body, which is the hormone that's in charge of your supply as well as regression/contracting/healing of your uterus. That's why in the first weeks anytime you nurse, your uterus contracts and feels like labor for a short time. I hope any of those information were helpful to you ❤️ I wish you all the best in the world

@@Kath-Erina All great information thank you, breastfeeding is going great here. I definitely agree on the baby is better than pump as my pump was making them so sore it was unbearable. I was feeding them pumping emptying what was left bc I do have a rather large milk supply producing 6 ounces each time I pump 6 in each. She’s two months old now and growing great shes getting all she needs.

And hydration, hydration, hydration. I wish I had people to listen to when I had my firstborn. It's amazing to have women like you openly speaking out how crazy breastfeeding is. 🫂
