@Xolette8 жыл бұрын
+Lex Slr Haha! I thought I could apply equations to knife throwing long ago... it's difficult for someone with my low-level math skills! :) Thanks for watching!!
@lex331228 жыл бұрын
+Xolette it's difficult on the whole. There really isn't any explicit way to express the all the variables involved in the flight of a knife as functions of each other. What you end up with is a bunch of implicit relations; meaning you simply know which variable depends of the other but not exactly sure how. The way forward would then be to get a very consistent thrower to make a series of throws while varying one parameter. This should be repeated for each variable under study. and the result would be tables of data producing some exciting looking graphs. Then it gets even more complex when we consider the fact that no two model knives are the same. Taking all of this into account, I'd say you video was a very simplified version of this. Job well done.

There are other knife thrower KZbinrs that you can mimic as well... they are in the "Some of My Favorite Channels" section on my KZbin page... Nice to see someone is analyzing their throws! Have you made further discoveries since then? I’ve seen throwing techniques, more recently, that didn’t require more than an initial 90 degrees-or even less! After a few meters, due to air friction, the blade tends to stabilize and fly straight. It then becomes a real no-spin. It’s been (more recently) popularized by the growth of the Yedin technique, which I’m sure you’ve also looked into.
@XoletteLife4 жыл бұрын
Yes, I looked into the Fedin technique-- I'm not sure if that's the same as Yedin. I haven't made any discoveries since this video. I made it when I was pregnant, and after I had my daughter, my hobbies are on the back burner. :) I know Adam Celadin pulls off some really long distance no spin throws though-- and I'm not sure how I'd get to that level!

That's a lot of backspin for a 6 meter throw. Mine leave my hand at about 90°-110° even from further distances... but I throw very hard, and they typically dont travel in such an arc. Maybe that's the reason? Could also be that I typically throw Skanf style too (or perhaps a wack variant of it)... or that I'm 6'2". Really shows you how individual this art form is! I love your videos though, and the way you break this down is brilliant. Would love to see more from you soon!

As a complete beginner I thank you very much for the effort you put into the explanations. Eagerly waiting for my knives to arrive, currently practicing with household knives and without a proper target. OSB is too hard and my Bow Targets are too soft for knife throwing. Excellent! This video is one of my more difficult edits and I'm glad it helped. Have fun with your new knives!!
@WeAreSoPredictable8 жыл бұрын
I may be wrong, but it looks to me like the extra-chunky thud that the 'Best Perfect Spin' throw made was probably because the blade landed not quite straight, and so a larger surface area of blade struck and embedded at one time. When the 'Average Perfect Spin' landed, it looked perfectly perpendicular, which would mean the surface area of the initial impact was tiny, and as the blade penetrated, it would slow down more gradually, but actually embed deeper for what would be a more damaging throw. That's what it looks like to me, at least. Another great video. :)
@Xolette8 жыл бұрын
+WeAreSoPredictable Actually, I had 3 throws that were particularly loud and what they had in common was that they peaked a lot farther ahead than my other sticks... from 2.25 m to 3.6 m ahead of me (instead of around 1.5 m ahead) and they all did a quick turn, whereas the others were slower. It'd be better though if I could measure the penetration force of the knives! :)

+Tyler Staley Check out my video, "Spin vs. No Spin" and "How to Throw Like Clove" Rotational throwing has its benefits it that it's easier to practice accuracy and consistency-- which is why you see professionals use rotational throwing for knife throwing acts... plus it looks better, to be honest. If you want to move around while throwing though, no spin is the best.

+TheTopMiners I bought some galvazined spikes at the hardware store and was told that in the long run, it's better to buy steel bar stock as the spikes would bend over time (which was they did). +Chester Senpai With your parent's permission, of course. Take safety measures-- eye protection, closed toes shoes. Target should be placed in an area where misses and ricochets won't cause damage. If you're throwing closer than 2 meters, then stand at an angle from the target to avoid direct ricochets.
