Here’s some more tips for learning a language: 1. Watch content creators creating media in your target language! This is most useful when you’re at the stage that you understand quite a bit but still struggle with speaking. 2. Look into the phonology of your target language. Try to repeat the sounds. This can be done even with Wikipedia. And when a sound is too hard, search for tips on how to produce it. Also don’t be discouraged when your vocal production sounds horrendous, sometimes there are no other ways than to just brute force it.

I want to reinforce your points with my own experience from learning English: media in your target language is an incredible source of learning. I learnt most of my early English from watching star wars and the old 1980's Transformers cartoon, as well as playing video games that simply weren't localised for my home language. Second point: pronunciation guides? Very useful. I've been speaking English with ever-increasing fluency for about fourteen years at this point, and for the first eleven thereof I couldn't pronounce the 'th' sounds, with me saying "free" instead of "three" or "vere" instead of "there". It took exactly three videos on pronouncing them for me to semi-reliably replicate the sounds, and within three months I'd completely worked it into my muscle memory while speaking.

This is basically similar to what I did to learn English. School wasn't that useful for me, because I was one of those people that always forget everything after an exam lol, and the fact that it was so different from my first language (Italian) made me kind of not really care about it. But after discovering that some fandoms that interested me had lots of videos in English, I threw myself on them. And when I discovered Discord, I started to use it too to help myself with the language and find more people to chat with that share my interests. It's funny because it's been just a few months from when I started actually practicing with English, and while I don't consider myself fluent with it, I consider myself good enough to make a conversation.

Maybe that is different online "gegenüber" in person? I don't know, but we never had internet back then, let alone You Tube, which is my absolute favorite thing about the internet. ive been learning spanish for a while but speaking it is definitely difficult for me--i do the same thing where im mentally translating sentence by sentence and take too long to process what im saying and what is being said.. i see you were also a former warrior cats enthusiast... :3

For me I have to structure the sentence in my brain before saying, if I don't I just stutter and keep saying "uuunnnnn"

Gute Arbeit!

My old English teacher at the university gave us a good tip. He said "Read Harry Potter in English" because Book 1 is written with a Level of Understanding for 7 year old and each book increases in difficulty until the final Book 7 which is written with a Level of understanding for 14 to 16 year old Kids. So the language grew with the children who read this series of books for the first time. it also works in reverse. :) Start reading Harry Potter's Philosopher's Stone in German. The sentence structure is suitable for 7-year-old children in Germany. So you can gradually internalize the language with the books, just like I improved English, you can also do it with German :)

@alibobsmarland9572 Жыл бұрын
@@Raptus_Gaming It helps if you know at least five thousand words in the language to start with! Bear in mind a seven year old kid has had seven years of exposure to the language.😀
@waylinar Жыл бұрын
@@Raptus_Gaming Of course, it requires basic knowledge of the language - a 7 year old child can already speak the language when he starts reading. So you need basic knowledge of the target language, e.g. a basics course. If you want to learn the language from 0 with the books, you need volume 1 for your native language and 1 time for the target language. This way you can read words that you didn't understand. However, it then takes a very long time. The books are more about getting better at a language in which you already have prior knowledge.

Brit here who also funny enough speaks German. I just wanted to expand a bit on your recommendation of playing video games in your target language. This is a great bit of advice since games are interactive. But especially playing either new games you've never played before exclusively in your target language or games with multiple dialogue choice options helps so, SO much. This is because it makes you pay extra close attention to the text so you can figure out the solutions to what is being asked. Also if you can find a game with subtitles that match what is being spoken (Breath of the Wild and Starlink being two games that come to mind), that helps even more!
