To me this backflip is the type of backflip most strong freerun athletes learn when they start out by just chucking the hardest layout backy they can because that way it feels safe. I had the same when i started out and had a real hard time learning to set height and then tuck, still struggling to improve my set 😂

Awesome video and something I've wanted to try and learn myself (a basic standing backflip that is). I'm based in roughly the same area as you and wondered what gyms you went to/how you approached them. Bit nervous just heading to one with no experience! Keep up the vids, and well done on landing it!

Stoked to read this comment, yeah it's very daunting at first. I looked for adult classes in my area and then looked for a private coach (it was about $50/h and I did one lesson). I'd suggest to just go for it and have a long term mentality (learn it in 1-3 months, as opposed to just sending it without training). If this video gets you on the same journey then it was worth making!🤙

I used to do an epic stalled backflip on the trampoline. The last bit as your staring at the ground when your knees have just hit the 11 or 1 o'clock mark you bring your knees to your chest as quick as you can to get the rest of the momentum to quickly finish the rotation.

i learned a backflip on ground from doing a back handspring and jumping a little higher than usual and then i only used one hand in the backhandspring and then used no hands which is a backtuck and then practised without a tuck
