I'm Kurdish, when I was 13-14 I didn't know Arabic I knew some words because we study arabic from grade 4 onward until college but realistically you dont learn by studding in school /highschool, anyways I was 13-14 when I started watching Arabic channels specifically cartoon channels like mbc3 and space toon and others after 2years I went from someone who didn't know Arabic to someone who knows 3 dialects of Arabic (khaliji , Syrian and Iraqi its a bless and a curse sometimes I use all in one sentence its something I dont have control over 😅) knowing the sentence structure helped alot I had my dad helping me he knows Arabic speaks like a Native even though he is not Arab. I learned that you dont learn languages by studding them you learn by listening to them daily I did the same with English and it took me 1 year to learn English. If you want to learn a language listen to it daily if you dont understand a word use translator. And be patient you need time to learn a language its not a switch to flip it and be done.

So ya im trilingual and all my arab friends and schoolmates just keep staring at me when i rock my arabic and sometimes in the egyptian dialect. So as you stated that consistsency and mostly watching movies and stuff works alot. It also helped me in turk as i can understand it to a great extent only because of SOZ and SAVAŞÇI (yes i am a spec ops fanatic) and got hand of russian too similarly. Altho im only fluent in English, arabic and urdu/hindi (if u consider them same; they arent). So ya two thinks will help alot. 1. Consistency 2. Cartoons, movies, dramas in that language.

I learned similarly. My فصحى is pretty good but I suck at dialect. Despite living in Egypt for a year, I mostly use Levantine words when I try to speak dialect. When I talk to people I start with some dialect that is like 20 percent, Egyptian 20 percent Levantine and 60 percent fusha. But if I keep the conversation up, it goes to totally fusha.

Actually, I’m learning fusha right now and drew pretty much the same conclusions. Fusha should give a strong basis for other dialects you’ll learn, it gives you grammatical rules, the ability to read, and it’s not that different from the dialectical Arabic from what I understood. Glad that my opinion got reaffirmed by someone who already speaks Arabic.

If you don't use it, you lose it! I lived in Syria for 5 years, where I would speak Levantine/Shami Arabic (Palestinian is a sub-dialect of which) in public and the Iraqi Arabic at home with my family. After I left Syria, I would have a problem speaking the Levantine/Shami dialect with my Levantine/Shami brothers (the Iraqi dialect isn't that intelligible or known to them) as I wasn't familiar speaking it as I previously did, even though I still perfectly understood it. Make sure you surround yourself with people who speak the specific dialect you want to learn and speak to each other with it. Hope that helps, Salam.

Wow! 😯 😮 That (tips) were the exact tips that I myself followed... Subhan Allah! MashAllah! 👏🏻 So, by my own experience regarding learning Arabic, ya... 👍🏻 Indeed, that's the right procedure to go for and follow - up to in order to learn Arabic (regardless the dialect) 👍🏻 👌🏻 I myself learned and still am actually learning Arabic following these tips and this process. My journey into learning Arabic started back in to 2012 (if I'm not mistaken 🤔) (after the Shahadah back to 2011 😓 😓 😓) I started with Fus'hah and, then, gradually I started with Khalleggee dialect till today, nowadays, these days. 🙂 Honestly, it wasn't easy for me (unlike you), because I didn't have any Semitic culture background since I'm European Latina (my culture background is Latin language and culture), so, it was really hard for me as you can imagine 😨 😰, but, slowly, very slowly, I got used to Arab Khalleggee culture and language by having friends (talking to them), watching the famous "Mosalsat" 🤓 📺 (famous Arabic soap opera 🎭) and their typical drama (Arabs LOVE DRAMA. They're the "Drama Queen") (Lmao 😅 😅 🤣 🤣), TV shows and even Live events such music concerts (my favourite in the weekends, Jummah), "Al - Mahrajan Al - Jamal Al - Malik Abdulaziz Al - Saoud" 🐪 🐫, camels festival, horses festival, falcons festival, "Riyadh Season" Boulevard City, etc..... I still do it and always will, because I'm already used to it, even though I don't understand about 30 % of what they say, still is understandable enough, I can still learn and improve my Arabic and have fun meanwhile... 😊 I'm still learning Khalleggee, because I'm not fluent with it yet... It's all a process 🙂 Thanks for your video and wish to remind you of dear Palestinian journalist Shireen Abou Akleh who was brutally killed, murdered this week by IDF forces 😈 👿 🇮🇱 Shayatin, wallah 😢 😭 Innah Lillahi Allah Rajjoun w Innah Illahi Allah Rajjoun... Allah yarhamah 🙏🏻 🖤

Masha’Allah. Great video as usual. I hope many who are seeking to learn Arabic learn from it. You’re right that a lot of the vocabulary stay the same. Sometimes it’s so close, but an aspect of the word in the original Arabic replaces it in a dialect. For example, the word for nose you used, “minkhar”. That word is still in standard Arabic, but it more specifically means “nostrel”. Some Arabic dialects today use to mean “nose” generally.

secondly you are right about advising to learn standard arabic first ~ because it has all the words and vocabulary that is used in all arabic dialect ~ for example what you mentioned and thought its Palestinian arabic for nouse (minkhar) its just synonym for (anif) in fousha ~and both words can be used in dialects and standard arabic ~ but usually we when we speak standard arabic se use the word (anif) and when we speak dialects( in most of dialects we say minkhar....but still in Moroccan and Syrian dielct they say: anif more often) we use the word (minkhar) ~ the same goes with all the words you hear in Palestinian dialect and all other arabic dialect ~ all those words have origins in fousha ~ the pronunciations just changed over the years and from place to another ~

learning standard arabic not just give you the chance to learn all Arabic dialects much easily~ it also give you the chance to read books in arabic and understand the official language for press and most of the arabic content online ~ and learning it is important if you want to learn anything about islam~ moreover that all arabs understand fousha and can speak it if they want to ...so if you can speak sousha do not be hesitant to use it when you speak to arabs because they will speak it too after they act a little bit awkward because they are just not used to use it in normal life dialogues ~ you should be concerned of learning a certain dialect only if you have to go to an arabic country and live there ~ which is happening in neutral way anyway~ after few months of living in that certain arab city or the country you have to live in ~ and that's what happened to you
