I applaud you for preparing real food, not all from a can. I like frying things in butter too, but butter burns easily at low temperatures. Try oil for working with longer cooking foods like potatoes. There shouldn't be any smoke involved. It does seem that manufacturers think more sugar is better. Especially in breakfast cereals. The good new is we don't have to eat things that are too sweet for us. Your living space seems very cozy and well-ordered. Bravo.

Smarties, Aero and Bounty have been around since at least the 1980’s. I used to eat them as a kid in Germany. Which is probably why you ate them in the Middle East as well. Generally, German sweets have 1/3 less sugar than American sweets. And I totally agree with you, Americans seem to think the sweeter the better. Which is why I don’t eat sweets anymore at all. Love Bounty, one of my favorites. If you can find Milka or Ritter Sport or Kinder or Lindt - those are great brands from Europe. P.S. that Aero, you have to let it melt in your mouth between tongue and gum, that’s when you feel the air bubbles pop.

I wound up taking a couple years of French and alnost 6 years of Spanish, partly bc of her. Everyone loved her in our town 😊❤ Also your story reminds me of a restaurant we used to have where I live, with older ladies who probably used to be school lunch ladies like some of my great aunts. At this restaurant, they would fuss at you if you didn't clean your plate! You could see the women cooking openly behind the counter, and the waitresses would say 'Miss so-and-so over there doesn't like it that you're not going to clean your plate. Bc she cooked that for you like you asked her to! You better eat all that! 😂
