Drove Lyft everyday and lived in my car for a year in LA...know exactly what you’re going through. Safe place to sleep near you is residential area of Santa Monica. I rotated between 10th - 25th street every night and never had one problem. No one ever knew I was there. Stay strong man!

My senior year at UCLA I was homeless and trying to find a place to sleep was SO HARD. It was terrifying b/c I was a very young tiny girl and all it would have taken was a guy bashing my window in and I wouldn't have been able to wake up and defend myself fast enough. Lived in fear every day. BUT, showering was way easier b/c I just had a gym membership. Covid kinda took that option away for people. But I also didn't spend my time skateboarding and soaking up rays in Venice Beach. I BUSTED MY ASS working and saved every dime - literally would go hungry rather than "waste" apartment deposit money on food. Was hardly able to work b/c your senior year is rough with senior project & all much tougher work load seniors get...more advanced classes, etc. But every dime I made, I saved. Schools is $$$$ so it was incredibly hard...but a month after graduation I was able to get an apartment.

When I was homeless (living in my car) I had a gym membership to anytime fitness. There I was able to workout, shower, and go to the bathroom, also to refill on water if I needed it. It is also a 24 hour gym so I would sleep in the parking lot and was never told to move. I recommend a gym membership that offers multiple locations. I was able to drive all through the southern states and find my gym in each city.

14:49 Keep a screwdriver there instead of the knife. 1. You have to flip out the knife first to use it and you may be in a situation that that is not possible. 2. Easy for your hand to slip on the knife and you can easily injure yourself worse that the person attacking you. 3. Most important if you're ever pulled over, having a screwdriver in the front seat won't be considered a weapon as easily as a knife.

I did the same thing in atlanta for a whole year drove Uber/lyft living in my car. I would get a hotel room every 2 or 3 days to shower and clean up. Days I didn't get a room I would just sleep on airport staging lot for drivers. I got a storage unit for all my belongings. The problem was the heat in the summer if it was not my room day I had to be in the summer heat 24hrs. Yeah if you can get yourself a storage unit so you don't have to drive around with so much stuff in your car. Just a suggestion good luck bro.

Look into getting some Power Banks that are 20,000 MAH that will charge your electronics period of times. Also, charge your power banks at almost any laundromat. Keeping the car on will not only burn fuel but you will wear the engine down. A coworker used to idle alot and his engine seized and had to get a new one. Mind his car was just 2 years old so no used engines were affordable or available.

I love this type of content. Your doing great man! I was living in my truck during my last year of college. (California as well) I just couldn't afford any type of rent at the time. I picked up as many jobs as I could to save up and it was a lot easier for me to find places to poop, shower and sleep. It was a crappy experience for the most part because I didn't want anyone of my friends to know. I was embarrassed kind of but it was more the fact that I didn't want anyone to feel bad, or pitty me, or look at me like a charity case. I just wanted to dig myself or of the home is made for myself. It worked out but after going through all that I seriously thought about "Van Life" to keep saving money as a choice and not a necessity. Never actually did it but I still love to see other people making it out there and having fun. I always envied that kind of freedom and when I was living out of my truck the freedom to just stay and go anywhere is honestly what kept me sane because I love exploring so much. The big downside and ultimate killer for me though was the time spent looking for spots to sleep and to go the bathroom as well as shower everything takes up so much more of your time and I didn't find that that much time and bathroom anxiety was worth it for me in the end. If I ever did it again it'd have to be in a big travel Van equipped with water and sewage tanks and obviously a bathroom and even a portable shower. Then I'd only have to worry about parking spots to sleep. It would save a ton of time and anxiety and it would make it all more worth it. I doubt I'll ever do it though. Might buy an RV when I'm old af. lol Keep up the good content my guy! I agree with Graham Stephen by the way, I think one you've played of your car and debt you should definitely look in to getting a can and maybe at least adding a toilet in there it will eliminate a lot of stress and save a ton of time for you to put towards better use like content creation.

Culver City and North Hollywood off Victory are pretty car camping friendly ..at least it was pre-pandemic...I don't think it's changed much. You should really block out your windows ...if use black foam board cut to fit your windows in the dark it looks like window tint and no one notices and opens up those residential streets. When this pandemic gets better you will find car life in LA gets super easy. Also you should look into getting a portable cleawaste toliet. They run about $50 but it will let you use the bathroom when bathrooms are closed. Keep pushing ...things will keep getting better!

You could supplement your charging needs with a solar panel charger off Amazon. I have a nekteck 21W that works well.

Cool video man! A way to probably save more gas and have more power is just to use an auxillary battery with a split charge system. You can have it connected to the main battery with a voltage sensing relay and/or diode so it only charges the aux batt once your engine battery is full, and when the engine is off you wire your chargers from the aux batt so current is only drawn from this auxillary batt. This way you dont need to run the engine worrying about flatting the engine batt dying. Supplement this with a solar panel(s) and you should have all the power you want. You can buy small solar panels to go inside the car to prolong the lifespan of the batteries too. Cold batteries also charge slower and dont last as long so having it inside the vehicle is generally a plus (esp in colder climates) as long as the hydrogen is vented safely outside the vehicle. Just be sure to know what you're doing and fuse everything correctly you dont want your motor going up in smoke!! All-in-one battery/chargers/inverters are good but can be very expensive compared to just a split charge system, auxillary battery or battery bank and inverter. Also for heating in extreme cold conditions you could use a webasto heater they are basically mini water boilers that run on diesel oil and can produce quite a bit of heat and probably use minimal fuel compared to heating up an entire engine block!

Lemme give you a little advice for your steering wheel.. Buy a cover you can sew. I live in Spain and bought one like for 8$ (10$) for my car and worked terrific. The feeling of having a "new" steering wheel is just amazing.

I found that the Airport Restroom are awesome, most airports are 24/7 & they even “long term parking” which most of time is free for the first 30mins, so enough time to go in do your business. I love that they have plenty of toilets it’s better than some convenient stores that just have one toilet & one urinal. Lol cause I can’t take a poop in peace.

I'd recommend getting a power bank (portable battery). You can get them at Walmart for about 20-40 dollars.

I know you don’t care about window tinting, but i sleep in my car as well. My windows are tinted ( all legal ) and i use black out window covers. It works for me and gives me the privacy from nosey people. Plus it reduces heat.

Just so ya know. You really should use a "pure sine wave" inverter to run electronics. The cheap ones damage laptops ect.

I sleep in my car too, and I have to have almost different sleeping placing each night.. I don't want to stay at the one place, which putting myself in the property owner's shoes, they would not want me to camp there days and months... It's very irritating to them.. Plus it's safe when u have different place to sleep.. U don't draw attention... I don't want to be a burden to anyone or society as a whole.. I also cleaned up after myself... Some people just make a mess when they live outside... That's why society against them...and people sleeping in their car. We got to be fair in everything we do.. It's not like we trash that place or take a poop somewhere and move on somewhere else.. Karma do comes around..

I’m curious what carlife folks would pay for a place to shower privately, collect mail / have a personal address that’s not a P.O. Box but a full on address, and have a place to park overnight that’s safe and secure. Could be a great business model. $100/month with in and out privileges or $5 for single night use of a complex like this.

You can always get a battery isolator with an additional Walmart car battery! You can install the extra battery on the passenger side floor! When you drive your car it charges both batteries, so plugging anything you have won’t comprise your starting power! As far as peeing 😂 use a Gatorade bottle, comes in handy when you’re driving or when you need to go but people are around!
