This is my first time here on your channel, and I am in awe of what you are doing. It really is the dream, i remember when i started cosplay, i thought, what exactly i like about it? I realized that I love making things, investigate, and try to achieve working tools, just like in media, i am inspired by. But so far, I only made Pyro's Flamethrower with soap bubbles instead of fire coming outta it. I couldn't get back to craft for a few years and decided to change it all this year around. There is compromise involved in most of these projects, which you didn't do to your own fault, resulting in an item that needs to be set down on the ground to be assembled. As nice as it looks, function is lacking on the mechanical side of things as well as usability side of things. Esthetically speaking, I'm sure many will love this piece. I also appreciate how you walked us through the build in a way that was easy to understand and engaging to watch. Overall, i give it a B+ It's definitely something I'd hang in my living room. it's very nice and a very well-made video, sir.

I imagine there is a wood in the Avatar universe, the has the spring retention of a springsteel, while not weakening as you cut it thinner. From there, you could take a branch of a tree, cut it down to shape, and use springiness of the wood, to be the mechanism, that pops the wings open. Then, you would just need a system to secure the wings into the folded position, and could use a button of somekind, as the release and catch mechanism.
@ingeniusdesigns9 ай бұрын
That's a good idea. Plus, I don't think spring steel itself is off the table. Spring steel has been around since as early as the middle ages, while Avatar seems to have access to early industrial revolution level technology and metallurgy.

absolutely OBSESSED with this. i was thinking, maybe there's a way to spring load the mechanism to pop in and out? not sure if there's room at all in there but i would love to see if you could come up with anything so you don't have to manually stir them back up. also, i'm aware you made a four part series on how to construct this, but being that i'm not at all skilled in making things like this, i was curious to find out if you would ever consider selling these? i think i may be interested given a reasonable price! loved the video and your passion shows through so much, thank you for bringing this to life!
@PokemonGoFan-ry6gd9 ай бұрын
Having a spinning rod in the center, to "wind" up the wing fabric would help with containment, and spring-loading the rod so it always pulls inward, while making the poles of the wings lock into place when fully extended could work, you just couldn't smack it against the ground to extend. (but you could tap it against the ground to retract) Also this project is years old he just reposted it to take advantage of the live action interest.
@ingeniusdesigns9 ай бұрын
You're not wrong! But I've also grown a lot as a video editor since I made the original videos, and I've felt for a while that this project deserved something better. And of course with the live action hype, this seemed like the right time!

Thank you so much! I really like your spring mechanism idea. Maybe spring steel like a bow? You're definitely making me want to try this again! They have combustion engines (even if fire-bender powered) in Avatar's world, so steel must be a thing to keep it all from melting. I think that's enough of an excuse to allow you to use spring steel, and fashion two sets of coils springs, each with a number of coils to attach to every wing spine. You wind them as tightly as needed to prop the wings open, and then you can make a simple double latch at the point of attachment to your staff for push-button unfolding that resembles the show. I tried not to criticize this beautiful work of art, but I just NEED to see those wings spring open.
@ingeniusdesigns9 ай бұрын
I appreciate the feedback, and you're totally right, although Aang came from a world 100 years earlier, in the industrial revolution-esque ATLA time period spring steel wouldn't be a problem. They had spring steel in the medieval period! I like your idea and will keep it in mind as I work on a mark 2 design inspired by comments like yours!
