this is awesome work, but the whole time you were showing the work in photoshop I was thinking how hard it would be to do this for a moving shot. I work in Nuke most of the time and probably some of it would be possible with position pass or cryptomattes, but probably would need a lot of tracking too. Anyway great job man!

This might be a very basic question... how did you achieve motion blur in the shot? Did you animate the car and the camera going forward or did you animate everything else going backward? Also did you use the compositor for motion blur or is it from the actual scene? Absolutely stunning render btw!
@ethdavis8 ай бұрын
The car is moving forward with the camera attached and I just picked a frame between the start and end and rendered. It was all in the render not post :) thanks dude!
@riccardofissore79968 ай бұрын
how about the movemebnt sensation? is the scene static and you added the motion blur in some way, or we are seeing a frame of an animation, so the camera and car are animated and moving? I add to do something like this on an animation and it caused me troubles to try to convey the idea of fast movement (the normal motion blur wasn’t enough and I was also guessing the speed of my subject and I was unable to export a vector pass to add motion blur in compositing)
@ethdavis8 ай бұрын
Hey dude, the car is moving and the camera is attached. I rendered a frame that was in between the start and end and set my motion blur to something like 0.8 so it was kinda like a long exposure sort of deal! Remember you can go above 1 in the motion blur settings :)

is 4070 super enought for entry level blender?
@ethdavis8 ай бұрын
For sure!! Even my old 3060 was, there’s ways to render individual parts of your image and then combine them after the fact. This makes it way less intense on your PC, as well as trying to optimise your scene, most gpu’s are capable 🙌🏻
@Ximuish8 ай бұрын
@@ethdavis i want to build my new pc, do u you think that i5 14500 with 4070 super and 32gb of ram is okey? Or procesor is to weak to handle blender? And btw your car scene is stuning
@ExacoMvm8 ай бұрын
Great work! The one thing that immediately catches my eye as fake is the number plate, it looks like you took it straight from "The Last of Us" abandoned car prop or something. I mean there's no way it would look like that IRL especially during rain and on such car and also the dirt type looks to me like it belongs on something oily/greasy like a piece of engine component or some chassis part under/near the engine etc. Also I would've loved if you did simulate the smoke, exhaust pop and the splashes even tho you've mentioned you were on a "weak" PC and Blender probably doesn't offer that much of great fluid sim tools like PhoenixFD, maybe EmberGen for fire/smoke is one of the best options. To me there's something about everything being perfect and faked as least as possible, I guess it's just because it's so difficult to get things right and behave realistic in the sim + the patience it takes which makes the work more "respectable" from artists PoV compared to just using some images/overlays which also has some challenges like color/lighting matching but to a much lower degree but on another hand there's AI in-painting lol.
@ethdavis8 ай бұрын
Hey bro! Thanks for comment 🙌🏻 I appreciate what you’re saying for sure, the reg I gathered so much reference and spent loads of time making it match my reference so I’m pretty happy with it. As for the simulation and particle stuff, I went into this knowing it wasn’t getting animated and that I’d post it for the photo. I’m currently working on an animation which will have all the above elements simulated and even then I’ll be compositing in Nuke. Nothing is always pure CG and I’m all about the final result rather than people being annoyed by how I did it! Appreciate the feedback though! 🙌🏻
@ExacoMvm8 ай бұрын
@@ethdavis True, in actual production it's always all about the result and you have to fake as much as possible but so it's also not too destructive in case quick changes are needed aka be efficient and how you did it here is perfectly fine and breakdowns with "fakery" is also necessary probably even more than those regular VFX House breakdowns that I like so ppl can learn how to optimize and become more efficient. Also It's not like I was annoyed or anything, just shared my thoughts that's all :D And for the lic plate I haven't seen anything like it myself. I guess the refs you took is the dried mud dirt from the car after rain water was going down over the plate or a super dirty plate being washed away but that should wash away real quick during rain so that state should be fairly brief and would likely happen only on mud roads which the AMG would likely never see. In UK/Manchester most plates are often dusty or barely dirty.

@@ethdavis what are the motion blur settings if i may ask?
@alexjanaqi8 ай бұрын
Im very curious as how to get that motion blur on the trees and wheels only. I understand that u can animate only the wheels with motion blur activated. but that about the trees? I thought of parenting the car chassis to the camera, but in this case the motion blur varies throughout the scene, if i would do this kind of parenting the whole scene would have the same effect strength all around
@ethdavis8 ай бұрын
Hi mate, I parented the camera to the car - the car and the wheels are moving but because the car stays in the same place in the camera view, it stays sharp whilst everything else gets blurred.

I’m a max user originally, working in the industry. I still would’ve used forestry and rail clone so that point is silly. Why not speed your workflow? I’ve modelled a lot of cars in my portfolio, but now I only use HKV Studios models, because they’re incredible and super talented. You don’t have to be good at everything within the industry. Photo-scanning is not a viable option for a quick job that is just for your portfolio, thanks for the comment.

Because its fun:) Why do we do anything? I could take this as a photo as well, but there's something about diving into the details and creating what was in my head as an initial idea. That is what art and being an artist is about. If you get happiness from typing it into AI then you should enjoy that! But I wouldn't consider it art and Goodluck with paying clients..
