Hi! The only way I’ve ever made money besides working my regular job was buying and reselling. My only fear is that I’m not sure if could make a full time income doing this, as I keep hearing that people do it more as a side hustle. I bust my back every time I work my job. I work in retail and have a bad back. I’ve always wanted flexibility, no 9-5, and time freedom so I can take time off when I feel I need to. I don’t know if I have unrealistic expectations about this or not. School was never for me and I’ve always enjoyed making money. I’m based in Chicago, IL. Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

with parting out items, how the heck do you figure out which model the part is for so you can list it?
@desertsellers Жыл бұрын
Great question. When I part items out it's usually because it was originally whole and either doesn't work or is missing parts. If it's an item that I cannot recognize you can use Google lens and find out what it goes to. But my main purpose for parting out is when it doesn't work and I knew what it was in its whole state. ☺️

I recently started watching your channel I wish you would show the screen shot of your actual solds or if you took an offer, could you explain that. Because it’s confusing when you say how much the items sold for, but the screen shot figure is different from what you are saying Thank you And God Bless!
@desertsellers9 ай бұрын
I wish eBay made that easier. We grab this sold from my account but it never matches 🤷 so if I say a lower number it's bc I took an offer and it doesn't show in listing that way. There's also a small discrepancy when I do the totals at the end. What eBay says under "sold total" and what I get for sold total in my own spreadsheet it never matches so I do the end screen to my actual total but during the video I refer to the eBay total since I haven't shipped and calculated the final numbers. I appreciate the input though and see if there's a better time share these numbers. Thanks for watching!

Do most eBay resellers have LLCs or sole proprietorships? Anyone know how much liability an eBay reseller has when selling used items? I don’t want an LLC because of the new BOI reporting requirement, but I’m a little nervous about the liability of a sole proprietorship.
@desertsellers6 ай бұрын
I only switch to an LLC for tax savings purposes. It was cheaper to run my business as an LLC. But that wasn't until a certain dollar amount. It will be best to speak to an accountant on what is best for your business. But I lasted about 5 years as a sole proprietor without any issues. If you think of liability there is very little as a reseller. You are not the manufacturer.

How do you calculate the shipping costs when its sold before packaging it?
@desertsellers10 ай бұрын
You can do a pre weigh with the item and add about a pound or so for packing materials depending with the item is. If it's just going in a poly mailer at about 3 oz. Larger item you may need to add 2 lb for packing.

Starting with a USPS tube mailer (free on their website). Wrap the head in bubble wrap and the grip in paper. If you can recycle a different box than you can ship ups ground which is the cheapest. The USPS boxes are priority (or some people mark off USPS or wrap in paper to still send ups in that box) super easy to shop golf clubs just need the right box ☺️

*Great* *Vintage* *For* *Sale* I ❤ Vintage clothing/collectibles and over the yrs Ive acquired a huge collection kept at an indoor climate controlled storage unit and in my basement filled with nothing but incredible vintage pieces I started out with clothing 25 yrs ago and shortly after added collectibles. I now have literally tons of rare pieces,nos,aop,single stitch,nos, one off extremely rare items,vintage clothing mostly 50’s through late 90’s Nike,Starter,Pendleton,Levis,Dior,YSL,concert tees,incredible vintage sports SnapBack and trucker hat collection vintage movie posters and all the promo material and press kits that were given only to theater owners,lots of vintage watches,jewelry,sports cards,autographs,memorabilia,military items,very rare aviaton items,art,some mid century furniture pictures,paintings,toys ie Star Wars,GI Joe 60’s w accessories,video game consoles and games NES,SNES,N64,Atari,Sega,big collection of 1st edition sci fi paperback books from the 50’s and 60’s,some cool signs,glassware,ephemera,industrial lights,literally anything that caught my eye that I thought was neat,rare, or valuable. There’s no filler it’s all extremely hard to find stuff that took decades to acquire. There’s a lot more stuff it’s just hard to mention everything. Im looking to move back out to Las Vegas (I came back to Alabama during the pandemic to help with a close family member that has now died) If someone can get to Alabama I may be willing to sell it all and cash out. It’s never been picked through or even seen by anyone for that matter. If someone can come this week or next I can send pics of different items. I’m going to the Orange Bowl Dec. 29th and probably the national championship Jan. 8th so if I am gonna sell it would have to be prior to then. Sorry for such a long comment.

Always choose calculated shipping. Put in the most accurate measurements of weight and the box you'll use, and the buyer will pay their shipping. explain how your making any money on the low dollar items, like $15 dollar items after shipping and fees. Shipping through ebay is a little bit of break and fees 15%, your making a few bucks after its done. Why mess with it? Its a honest question. Even with USPS ground advantage its not cheap.
@desertsellers10 ай бұрын
That is a very valid question. But imagine selling 15 of those at a time. Those are considered my bread and butter items. Mix in a few $15 sales along with other $40 to $50 sales. Every bit adds up.
