I love your simple yet precise process. I feel more confident to make patches. Explaining the materials is a big part of this process. Like that you float the fabric, I too think it's a waste to use more. Q: Why did you choose tear away instead of cut away.?
@lashleycreations4 ай бұрын
Cut away really only needs to be used on non-woven materials, like shirts and sweaters. Since the patch is very sturdy, tear away is fine and the stitches will remain in tact once the stabilizer is removed

what machine are you using in this video? Is there are large learning curve with these machines and doing embroidery ?? I have been looking and trying to find the best way to share and sell my art work.. I considered stickers, but then i saw laser engravers (engraving painted canvas) then during my search I saw someone doing an embroidery iron on patch and thought it looked amazing..I LOVE we can do multi color designs.. this video is 1 year old, are you still doing this?? So learning curve? How many colors can these machines do?? Look forward to a reply, thanks in advance.. this embroidery is something really catching my attention
@lashleycreations8 күн бұрын
I was using my old Brother Innovis 1400e machine when I made this video. Cost $1600 and It has just 1 needle, so you have to manually switch out the thread to do different colors. Had this machine for about 5 years before I upgraded to a multi-needle with automatic color changes. There is a learning curve with embroidiery. When I first started making my own designs it took me about 3 months to feel comfortable with the basics. Lots of trial and error, and it is an expensive hobby because aside from the machine cost, you constantly have to buy supplies (thread, stabilizer....and the software to make designs cost me $800...) but I just love the look of embroidery so I think it's worth it

Looks like you already contacted me on Etsy:) but just for others to know: yes I can do custom patches. Feel free to shoot me a message in Instagram or Etsy

Is there a reason why folks don't do a rough, quick cut around the patch before doing the iron on adhesive and then the closer more exact cut after? The two videos I have watched from others also have them cutting carefully around the patch before and after adhesive. Just curious as I have not tried this before.
@lashleycreations4 ай бұрын
When I'm making a bunch of patches at once I actually prefer to apply the iron on backing to the patches before I cut them, then do the exact cut after. I should have mentioned that in this video but forgot since I was just making one patch. Good call out!

I did not catch the name of the patch twill that you are using and can only find the poly twill with adhesive back online. Could you please repeat the name and perhaps a link? Thank you so much for the video, looks like I just might be able to do what I am wanting to do once I get the materials.
@lashleycreations4 ай бұрын
I use this twill from Coleman and Company: colmanandcompany.com/Twill_Material.html This twill that I use does have an adhesive backing on it, which provides stability and makes for a good backing when making patches

What is a good alternative to patch twill? and is patch twill the same as polyester twill? I was trying to find some locally or at Joann's but am unsure what to search for.
@lashleycreations Жыл бұрын
good question! Felt is what I first started out with, just the thick felt that you can buy in yards from Joann's. Try with felt a few times and then you can decide if its worth investing in patch twill. I tried the polyester twill you find at Joann's, but the end fray, so I would not recommend it.

maybe i missed it but for your basting stitch around the patch design, was it part of your design, or did you sew a border before you began the embroidering? thank you for your videos! machine embroidery and digitizing are super intimidating to me, so i'm taking this step by step
@lashleycreations11 ай бұрын
When I digitize my patches I always add a first step to sew the border to secure the fabric, so the border is part of the design. And glad you found this helpful!

Hi Just want to ask if it frays like the other fabric? did you have to burn the outline of the fabric? or it just came out clean like that?.

Patch twill doesn't fray, but I do burn the edges to give it a little cleaner look

Why do you use patch twill and the iron backing? Does the patch twill not come with the adhesive back already? That part confused me.
@lashleycreations9 ай бұрын
Good question! My patches are fully covered in thread, so when you stitch on the twill, the back of the twill is also being covered with the bobbin thread, so the twill adhesive is no longer exposed. I guess if you make patches with most of the twill fabric exposed in the background you could use the adhesive, but I've never tested it and don't know how strong it would hold up when ironed on.

Do you have to design your files to patch making ? Idk if that makes sense lol or I can I make patches with the dst files I already have. ?
@lashleycreations Жыл бұрын
The only thing special I do when digitizing patches is make sure they have a thick satin border (about 2 - 3mm) going all the way around in order to make it a nice clean cut. But even if you are using an existing dst file that doesnt have a satin border, you could still use it as a patch, it just wouldnt have that patch look of a border.
