Hi Ellen, I think the calamine you used must have had a higher % of iron oxide in it hence not the usual blush colour. You can make your own to ensure the blush colour by mixing 95% zinc oxide and 0.5% iron or red oxide, that seems to be the standard quantities from my online research. Certainly preferred the previous colour used in the soap. Love a simple bar too.

Just so you know if you can't find calamine powder what you can line a dehydrator with wax paper and dehydrate the liquid form of calamine and put it in a food processor and pulse it into a powder. My grandma taught me that. She would wet a cotton ball and dip it into the powder and apply it on our bug bites. Can't wait to put in my order of soaps from your site.

Thank you very much for your videos. I started making soaps a few months ago and recently came across you and hardly ever miss your videos. I must tell you that I have learned a lot from you, and it is very relaxing to see and listen to you. May I ask you some questions that I have? I hope I'm not too nosy. First, I would like to know what are the cane sugar and silk fibers used for in the lye solution and in what proportion should they be used? About sodium lactate a few months ago I would have asked you, but I have already done a research on my own motivated for your videos, thank you 😉. I would also like to know what size and weight your bars of soap are. Sorry in advance for my English, I'm from Central America and I have to use the translator to make sure I get my ideas across in better English. Greetings from Guatemala.
@EllenRuthSoap3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! The sugar is a lather booster, and the silk adds a "silky" feel to the lather. Sugar can be added at 1-2 tsp per lb of oils. I'm using the tall triple skinny mold from workshop heritage, they have all the specs on volume.
