Hi from Florida! Thanks for sharing all these soap mold ideas!

The joint you were pointing to is called a box joint. I started with those Amazon molds as well. Then I decided I could make those myself. Then I did dadoed joints, straight joints, dowel joints, etc! I enjoy making the molds as much as the soap. I think I have more molds than soap now. 😊 all good to keep an 83 year old busy.

Going to say-great molds are so so loved. Would love to find someone who could make me about 4-5 small molds. I’m a hobby soaper yet I enjoy making lots of recipes so I’ve switch to small silicones but would love a wood support for them. Wishing you the best!!!!

I like the idea of putting the 2 holes in the wooden Amazon mold. I have cut a wide ribbon to line the bottom length and up the sides. It helps pull the soap-filled silicone mold out when it’s ready to unmold.😮

Can't wait to see you use the Amazon molds. I wish you offered a class or series. I love following your videos. I did the soaps you made with the 4 loafs of different recipes. Everyone in my home loved them. You are such a great teacher, id love to join an online class with you!

I actually bought the PVC caps! They sell them for all pipe sizes and works great/stands up so no need to add melt/pour to seal the bottom. I learned that trick from another YT soap maker.

Ellen, let me ask you this. 🌷 I love adding colloidal oats and kaolin clay and calamine and such. How do I know how much I can add? Do I do a sort of water discount or oil discount? Do you ever add it in somewhere on the soap calc? Would you do an episode on additives? That would be amazing. 🥰 Thank you so much for all that you do! You're just beautiful inside and out, and I love watching and learning from your videos.🪻 ~Michelle
@EllenRuthSoap Жыл бұрын
Thanks🥰 The dry additives are just “extra” and don’t factor in to the total # on soap calc. A good rule of thumb is 1-3 tsp per lb of oils👍

Wonderful information, I’ve learned new trick to organize my fun pattern silicon mounds! There is one thing, however, as of water, volume in cubic centimeters equal to weight in grams, volume is always cubed, not squared.

I love my Willow Way tube molds from Soap Equipment. They have a weighted base and a Teflon liner, really easy to remove. Yes they cost more, but they've been workhorses for me, I've got six of them. I've got so many molds I don't use, I really need to destash. I've settled on Nurture loaf molds but I do have a triple wide mold from Workshop Heritage. I also have those Essential Depot molds I bought to use to teach soap making, I can only accommodate three people in my little lab, though.

I have a solution for you for your soap cakes! It’s a clay tool that ceramicists use to slice chunks of clay from the mother slab! Just type “clay wire cutter” into your search bar and BAM! Be forewarned to *not* get the wavy one unless you want the cut edge to look funky! Anywhooooo… Good morning, Ellen 😊 It was lovely hanging out with you this morning. I’m in Canada and don’t have a Hobby Lobby to visit and that makes me a bit harrumph-ish 😅 We do have Michaels but they are quite a bit more costly when it comes to molds. I invested in some rectangular molds for my Castile soaps so they can stay put for a week while they harden up a bit. Jeepers they take forever to firm up. Have a wonderful weekend. See you next time!

Try putting your dolphin mold in the freezer for a few hours before unfolding. It might help it to release easier.

Good suggestion, I might give that a try next time.

Enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing. Not to be nit-picky, but the result of LxWxH is cubic cm, not square cm. The baby powder is a great idea, but I would guess any kind of flour or corn starch would work well too.
@EllenRuthSoap Жыл бұрын
Yes, you're correct about cubic vs square👍
@jennifergaytan97 Жыл бұрын
Just came here to say this, too. I'm a home schooling mamma. When you multiply 3 dimensions, it's cubic...squared is 2 dimensional. 😉
@EllenRuthSoap Жыл бұрын
@@jennifergaytan97 Yes, I've had a few folks point that out... As a homeschool mama myself, I should have caught that🤣

Ellen, are the silicone molds at 3:10 suitable for making bathbombs? Like, is the volume ok, too much, or too little for a bathbomb?
@EllenRuthSoap11 ай бұрын
They are super flexible, so I'm not sure how hard you can press the bath bomb powder into them?? Personally, I wouldn't use them.

Thank you so much for sharing, this helps me a lot, I'm a new soaper and I could use the help. Have you ever thought about putting something together for us beginners and sell it, like a basic recipe for soaping, where to find vendors and equipment. That would help a lot and put money in your pocket or set up a subscription to join and charge monthly for it and have helpful tips in there, if so I would be the first to purchase

So glad you found this helpful! I'll be doing more videos for beginners in the future.

Can you explain the gel phase please.
@EllenRuthSoap Жыл бұрын
Gel phase is when the soap heats up after you mold it, and goes thru saponification quicker.
@ahmadhabib95537 ай бұрын
It is not cm square, it is cm cube, it is the volume we measure. 1 cm cube = 1 ml which is equal to 1 gram of water at room temperature. So the ml amount is equal to roughly the grams.
@EllenRuthSoap7 ай бұрын
You are correct❣️ Thank you for explaining it so clearly.
@lbscroggs Жыл бұрын
Ok when measuring ingredients for mold let’s say it holds 42 gram how do you determine how much is the oil part I know how to figure lye and water but on oils to make it add up to 42 grams

You can run the # thru soap calc and adjust until you get the volume you're needing.

Correct; cm/ grams... 1000 grams is 1 liter water. Oil is a bit lighter, but if you use 1000 grams of oils youre mold will flow over. Because you also add water and lye. If you use a tad less then 1000 gr in total, you will be fine. Because the oil has a lighter weight then water the volume is more.
@EllenRuthSoap Жыл бұрын
👍💕
@LadyGecko Жыл бұрын
Soap weight, not volume though it should be noted that water is the same in weight and volume. I tare, fill with water and the multiply times 92%. The 4” Silicone Square Mold is my “test” mold…new recipe, new scent, new colorant, new additives. And it is a good mold for ‘hobbies’…it only makes 4-1” 5oz so you can make lots of different soaps without becoming buried in soap.
