For those who think moving countries is a good idea, make sure you travel to that destination often and do longer stays and see how you feel before you make that full commitment. Sometimes you have the traveling bug and you think the destination you travel to is somewhere you want to be long term, but its nothing more than the traveling high.

It's also worth noting your size and habits compared to the country. There's absolutely NO WAY I could live in Japan purely because of how tall I am.

Also depends on if you have spouses that are citizens and if you are rich like this guy. $1,800 a month? When I lived in Japan, I paid $100 a month for my home.

$1800 USD/month for a house like that is insane. You can barely get an apartment the size of your garage in New York, SF or Seattle for that price. What a steal.

If this house was located in downtown Tokyo, monthly rent would be easily over $10,000. Location is everything for real estate value.

As the sign says, this is in Kamishizu, Sakura City, about 40 km away from the center of Tokyo, where land is cheap and it takes more than an hour by train. If you wanted to rent a house of the same grade as this house in the center of Tokyo, that would be impossible with $10,000 per month.

Our home is two streets from the beach, with three bedrooms, two bath. Our home is less than that per month with two car garage, large back yard and front yard. its only a four year old home In the U.S. We own our home, I'm never renting again to throw away rent money.

What my cousin did when he moved to proper Tokyo almost 20 years ago with his Japanese born wife was start his own translation and English teaching business. That gave him enough credentials, back then, for both of them to be able to purchase a house. Fast forward those ~20 years and he was able to be apart of The Mandalorian show translation team, which was super neat. He also worked on the Ninja Gaiden team for a few years back in the day. ------- I know it is different for you, as you kind of stated you aren't fluent in Japanese. But it appears there is always a need for help with the English language in some way or another, and maybe you can also capitalize on that. Anyways, thank you for sharing some personal life information! Wish you and your wife a happy life!!
