How I Paint My Biel-Tan Aeldari & Striking Scorpions Aspect Warrior Green Armour

Hi Everyone,
In this video I will demonstrate how I'll be painting my Biel-Tan Aeldari green armour or where you are after a nice deep emerald green, such as the new Striking Scorpions Aspect Warriors.
For me the Craftworld of Biel-Tan has always been my favourite Aeldari (Eldar) Craftworld, ever since I was a kid and I read the 'WITCH HUNT' battle report between the Aeldari and Orks in White Dwarf issue 171.

I hope you enjoyed this little video and it encourages you to give it a go yourself. The principle will be the same whether you're painting an Aeldari Guardian, Wraithlord or even a Wraithknight (you might just need to invest in slightly bigger brushes or an airbrush)

Though I am a fan of the entire family of green colors, when I think of the color green, THIS is the color I'm thinking of. This right here is green defined. Emerald, practically. If there's a way to do gems in a NMM fashion, like "Non-Prismatic Gem," or something like that, then this'd be it. Mate, so chuffed you are making videos again. Your videos and style put me in mind of the late, great Darren Latham, and that is the highest compliment I can give. If you have a to-do list of videos to make, could I request that you think about adding Ork skin tones to it? The green in this video got me thinking about it. I have used your guide for Ork faces and they came out really nice, but a video on the skin would be great too. Regardless of whether it's on the to-do list I'll keep watching - these videos are great.

Depends what you’re painting but I’d be tempted to shade with Rhinox Hide or Rhinox/black maybe, then highlight by adding something like Khorne Red up to Ushabti or Screaming Skull? I’ve done cloth like that and came out well. 🙂

Great video again, I like the extended shots of just watching you work without commentary. I’ve learnt stuff like holding the brush different ways just by watching. Plus the peaceful accent is relaxing and reminds me of my grandad. He has been gone a long time so it is nice to be reminded of him. Thanks very much. P.S. Any chance of doing a dark skin tone tutorial? There are so many for pale skin tones but very few for darker tones, and less with any great depth.

Great video. I'm curious as to why you use a black primer rather than a white like Corax White spray? It seems like the undercoat would go on quicker but maybe I'm missing something. Thanks!

Just force of habit most of the time tbh 🙂 I prefer painting off black undercoat for almost everything… unless what I’m going to be painting is going to end up white or very light, like in the new white armour video I posted this evening. It’s probably come from when I first got into the hobby in the early 90’s spraying anything with the skull white spray that GW sold was a bit of a lottery whether it was going to go on smoothly or not. It was easier to spray black and almost guarantee a nice smooth undercoat and now it’s what I’m used to 🙂

This is awesome. Question though, how would you do this technique if you also were adding either a marking or decal to make it blend with the shading?

Thank you!😀 Personally I'd apply the decals at the end and then just take the panel shade mix I used in this video, water it down to a very thin glaze and slowly glaze over the decal to help knock it back and tie it into the rest of the surface. If the decal was on the larger side and maybe ran across more than one panel (say the larger decals for a Grav Tank etc.) I'd also re-highlight the panel edges over the decal too. The next video I'll be releasing is some freehand black thorn markings for Biel-Tan, I'll make be sure to include these stages which will be exactly the same for going over decals. Also, for decals I'd probably use something like Micro Set and Micro Sol which softens the decal film and helps with the 'painted on look'.

This is the first video of yours i've come across, and i have to say, when i think of Biel-Tan, this is the sort of green i see in my minds eye. I'm curious though, How About how long do you suspect it would take to paint a full Wraith Guard figure in this method?

Out of interest: why undercoat it black if you’re then going to spend 2 or 3 coats worth of time to bring it up to green without keeping shades in the deep crevices? Why not just start from a darker green undercoat and work up/down from there?

Yeah that’s good point, less coats and time. Tbh I hadn’t explored coloured undercoat sprays much, until very recently. So just went with my usual black undercoat out of habit. But I’ve just done similar to what you’re suggesting with my Leagues of Votann army after discovering the Colour Forge Undercoats sprays, much quicker and a great finish. I think I’ll be giving it a go for my Biel-Tan too
