January was filled with all sorts of makeup temptations. What tempted me and how did I resist it?
It's early in my low-buy / beauty minimalism journey, and this is my first "check-in" style video with you. I would love to hear about how you feel about the latest new releases and which items have particularly enticed you.

It's so hard not to buy the thing when we have created such a huge story behind it! Violette's colours grab me every single time. I was thankful I could recreate her new shades with what I already have. I might have been in trouble otherwise. 😉

Oh dear Brittany this is where we differ!! I will never go on a no/low buy...I just can't!! But I did do pretty good on January but I was really sick so not much tempted me. Still I purchased the Guerlain Cherry Blossom case & Rosy Bloom lip, a replacement Chanel eyeliner, a Dior lip gloss and one of the new Too Faced Cloud Crush blush. I was tempted to get the Guerlain Red Vanda case and the Red Ballerina to go with but resisted. I keep falling for "gift with purchase" trick these companies do!! I had forgotten about the move!! Hope all went well & you're happy where you live!! I missed your videos!! 🥰❤️

Oh I know, I can hardly believe the words coming out of my mouth as I'm saying them when I talk about my rule of one makeup purchase a month. 😂 I'm hoping that with time, it gets easier and not harder! It certainly helps that a lot of my "shopping / online hunting energy" is going towards home decor right now, so we'll see how I go once that excitement fades. I hope you are feeling much better now after being sick in January! And thank you so much, I definitely missed posting videos and chatting with you too! @@bornblushing the Too Faced blush is nice but nothing really special. I had some gift cards to spend so thought I'd try the new Candy Cloud shade that went viral. I hardly buy anything from TF anymore. I still think Hourglass and RMS are much better 💖

@@pinksparkle258 Gift cards are a great way to try out items we wouldn't normally consider purchasing! I've also gravitated away from Tom Ford. Nothing by them has caught my eye lately. I've tried a couple of items from Hourglass (mainly their powders) and one of RMS' luminizers, and they were all really nice. ❤😘

@@bornblushing oh I meant Too Faced not Tom Ford...I love all his pink & Cherry quads coming out though I doubt I'd buy any as they're more warm in tone (Forbidden Pink) or red (Electric Cherry) 🍒

I am so glad to connect with someone who can relate! I definitely haven't followed my rule perfectly and did slip up a couple of times, but I feel like finally, after six months of trying to adopt this mentality, something is sinking in and I'm feeling that crazy shopping bug a little less. It hasn't been a consistent road, but I can feel some sort of improvement. More videos coming soon! Thank you for being here. 💕

Oh, and I totally know what you mean about "peachy" skin. It's a hard skin tone to describe as it's neither here nor there, but sort of a mix of everything!

It sounds like you’re doing great so far! Just watch out for the trap of “i only get one purchase per month so I’m going to spend the whole month nonstop thinking about what to buy.” That’s why I had to choose a no buy instead 😂

Oh yeah, I know what you mean! Thankfully I haven't had that problem yet. I don't feel any temptation this month so far, which is great. Turning a blind eye to new releases has certainly helped a lot! I flirt with the idea of a no buy, but I'm also curious to see how long I go without purchasing any makeup with my "one purchase" rule. How long are you on a no buy for?

@@bornblushing I am going for a year starting Dec 1, but I do get one purchase every quarter if I want. I did make the caveat that I have to buy something off the wishlist I made for the previous quarter. So I put together my wishlist of all the things I wanted before the no buy and put it away in a drawer until March 1st, and then I’ll put it back away with the wishlist I’ve been making December-Feb. Since I have to wait 3-6 months before making the purchase anyway, it takes away the urgency for me and also basically excludes all limited edition products (which are a weakness). I’m also going to keep all the papers together and cross off things I no longer want so I can remind myself of how my interest fades over time. I thought it was going to be hard for me to choose what I wanted to buy, but the only thing I’ve had a strong consistent craving for since December is the PMG Venus in Fleurs re-release since I never picked up the original.

@@dr.w.makeup5499 I love your wishlist method! That's a great system, and I like how you've allowed yourself a purchase every quarter. I'm about a month behind you since my last makeup purchase was January 3rd, and I really want to go for at least three to four months without making any purchases to see what changes I notice. Isn't it always a pleasant relief when we find our interest fades over time? Here's to our low buy / no buy journeys!

@@bornblushing I estimate how much time I spend shopping online and think about how I would rather that time be spent; so I set goals like book reading goals for the year. Sometimes I go through my vanity table or bathroom cabinets and do a bit of an organization and I usually end up finding things I forgot about so that feels a bit like shopping as well! I curate my emails and IG to subscribe to less so that less sub par advertisements are coming at me all the time. I allow myself a few indulgences on KZbin and social media (including you!) who I watch and enjoy but I usually don't feel inundated with temptation from those people. Honestly it helps to unsubscribe from people who are mostly makeup review channels and who review everything that comes out. It's all helped immensely 💖

I also love reorganizing as a way to refresh space and feel like I'm experiencing my things like they're new again. I unsubscribed from so many channels and email lists, and I agree that that's helped tremendously. I'll definitely take on that "time spent" idea!

I'm CRAZY about your color combination n this video - makeup and dress! You and I have the *exact* same coloring (I've never found anyone else with the same combination of darkest brown hair, brown eyes, black eyebrows, and peachy - not olive, fair or yellow - skin... except for my brother! Are we related??) so watching your videos is giving me life. I can see exactly what the colors will look like on me! And I've been so curious about the Violette fr yeux paints.... you might be saving money this month, but seeing how great the colors I've been dying to try look on you (US) is going to put me in the red. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Hi Eva! So glad you found my channel. I also struggle to find people with the same colouring as us! I hope my videos are helpful for you. Violette Fr's Yeux Paints are a weakness of mine, especially since her colours are so unique and often difficult to replicate. I'm glad you could also recreate her new purple release! When I saw the photo of her wearing that colour, I wanted to purchase it right away, but I'm glad I resisted. 😂❤️

Can you do a video on using the yeux paints “for dummies”? I only own one, but it’s an unforgiving dark blue, and I honestly struggle with the formula. I haven’t figured out how to best use it. I had hoped to use it like a liner, but that was a disaster. Also struggling with it as a shadow. I need some pointers!

Hi Leslie! Love that idea. Violette Fr's matte liquid eyeshadows are pretty tricky to work with, aren't they. I have that dark blue shade as well, so I'll make sure to use it in a future video very soon! Thanks for the suggestion. ❤

Loved this video, definitely needed this! Your strategy of buying one beauty product per month is something that I definitely should do because I've been buying way too many things lately and, to be honest, I barely use makeup, I always end up using the same 5 things and that's it, but as you say you start buying and the craving to buy more becomes even more intense, but sometimes I feel like I don't really enjoy it and I just get stressed because I'm running out of space to keep my things and it's just stuff that ends up just sitting there untouched, like you the whole fantasy & story behind everything is what always gets me. Also super tempted by the beautiful Guerlain Red Orchid collection and of course Violette's latest Yeux Paints (I actually thought you were wearing them here!), basically anything Violette creates is always super tempting, I always look at her pictures and also think I'll look like her, and of course that never happens 😂. Ugh and also Byredo's collection, but I agree I feel like the brand is a big part of the appeal for me as well, and that it's Lucia Pica's first collection, but when I look at the colors they truly aren't that unique and I definitely could create a similar look with what I already have. Buying makeup can such a strangely addictive thing because like you said, we often reach for the same products anyway, but we get sucked into the whole story of the product and what we think it will do to our face. I went into a department store recently (I'll talk about it more in my next video), and I looked at Guerlain's new collection. Thankfully, it was much nicer in my mind than when I saw it in real life! It was still lovely, but since I had revved it up so much in my head, obviously the reality of it couldn't match up. I felt the same way with Guerlain's Red Orchid collection, it finally arrived in my country and I was desperate to get at least the eyeshadows and 1 lipstick, but looking at it more carefully and without the whole story behind it, it kind of lost its charm which was great for my wallet and the closet where I keep my makeup which is running out of space😅.
