I genuinely don't think that buying from an NPC should ruin your run in any way, its still playing Solo, Its not like single player games which you play solo don't have NPCs that you can get stuff from. But either way was fun video none the less! Can't wait for the next Solo episode! I am SUPER looking forward to Post ARR!

Honestly I thought the "no buying from NPCs" wasn't really essential in a solo playthrough, I mean you're still the one getting the gil, I buy my food from stores IRL and yet still live on my OWN lol, and when I play a solo game, when I pay for something at an npc, it's still a solo game, as long as you got the gil through your own efforts I don't think it's a problem anyways =) But your commitment to your rules is very impressive and commendable to be honest.

Well glad to see you're not restarting the whole challenge because of one thing you didn't think of. I always forget that there's nothing actually stopping new players in Ul'dah and Gridania from traveling between regions before the airship unlock. Just...strong enemies.

The enemies make it hard, but fortunately Sleep lets casters get across the harder areas easily. It just takes some caution.

Eh, I wouldn't let one oopsie get to you. The content and story have been awesome and inspiring, to the point where I've started a similar challenge (except just with crafters and gatherers... had to level 'em anyway, so fuck it, gather and make 1 of everything myself). The Crow Fly made by GSM (16-20) can also be used to catch goby, meaning you didn't need to buy goby balls either. The more you know!

Fitting that you have to bonk Marauders in your effort to fix the issue that was CAUSED by picking Marauder. Also I've always thought it was pretty dumb that not even the Vesper Bay ferry was accessible until pretty much the Envoy quest, meaning that players are STUCK in La Noscea until then, whereas people who start in the other two cities can access the "Greater Eorzean Continent" as I lke to put it. Really confused me as a new player when I started because I was wanted to see all the places from the get go but couldn't as I started as Marauder.

Having started in Limsa I do sort of regret not starting in Gridania (or ig Ul'Dah but there aren't any good classes for my purposes there) since with how I played I probably would have walked all the way to Ul'Dah to get miner and those crafting classes before doing the MSQ just since the main reason I do MSQ at all is to just open up new areas for crafters and gatherers. Would've been a fun trek but alas I'll just have to content myself with my piercing resistance.

I wouldn't have cared about something so minor, the solo duties are what really impress me with the challenge, but this is a fascinating little look at a part of the game most people would never think about. I hope nobody expects you to actually restart on perfect solo all the way through arr though.

Why was it impossible in Limsa? The Side quests grants you the equipment slots needed for the Mainscenario Quest. Or are you not allowed to do side quests? I would think that is strange if you allow yourself to buy Ironworks Gear/Weapon (or even the potd weapond) which are way higher then the duty you are running (seeing the last video), but don't allow gear from side quests

Quest rewards and NPC purchases aren't allowed. NPC purchases we're only meant to do when we can't get the item otherwise. For example, the ironworks gear, I can't get any other way aside from that NPC purchase.

just finished catching up :D I've enjoyed this a lot because I enjoy Runescape challenge runs and I like listening to all the fiddly little technical stuff when someone is plotting out what they have to do to stay in line with their challenge and accomplish their goal. I also, when crafting, largely prefer to gather and make everything myself, including my own gear, so a lot of that content is relatable to me (this was mostly done because I am always poor and it also feels more official to me). I ALSO related to having to get artisan gear etc because the jump from ARR crafting recipes to Heavensward crafting recipes is brutal.

Um… if I’m not wrong, I’m like 100% certain you can get a helmet from a quest before that MSQ. I have been recording a similar challenge and I had completed all quests and thought I needed to make the same exception but I had already received one. I can look through my footage to see if I can locate when the helmet is given

So I started doing this challenge myself and I found out that you can do it even faster if you start in gridania, as leatherworker can craft helmet literally from the start and it only requires 1 leather also great series, cannot wait to see crystal tower solo :D

Ooo sorry sorry. For the main challenge we use Warrior, which starts as Marauder. Warrior has a lot of healing with its 1-2-3 combo attacks, mainly the 3rd hit in the combo, Storm's Path. We started this time as gladiator, which later becomes Paladin, so that we could start in a different city. After getting to the airship we would swap to warrior if I did anything else on Perfect Solo

I believe the north shroud gate is locked until you reach a certain level, there's a blue quest right next to the aetheryte you unlock it via, though I may be thinking of the wrong gate.

To make a hempen hat you need hempen yarn, which needs moko grass. I showed the path to moko grass in my first video, but you need to craft a scythe, which in the end needs blacksmith from Limsa. Otherwise its an NPC purchase

There's a quest that requires you to equip gear with an Item Level 5 or above in several slots in order to make sure gamers were aware of that mechanic as it's vital. In current days all you need is a helmet that does the trick as the racial level 1 gear had been boosted to Item Level 5. In previous expansions you had to replace all of your body gear in order to pass the quest.

There's a lvl8 DoW hat from a side quest in each region, with which you'd be able to complete the quest without crafting or purchasing from an NPC, for Limsa starters its in Lower La Noscea, its an easy thing to miss and nobody is gonna hold it against ya

The only leather helmet that meets the minimum ilvl requirement takes bronze or some other metal ingot we can't get without blacksmith or armorer sadly.

@@blitztalks8039 the eyepatch needs hempen yarn. To get hempen yarn without quest rewards we have to craft the scythe ourselves, which I went over in the first episode. It takes every crafter, and blacksmith in the end to make the scythe itself. Cant get yarn without it aside from merchants.
