Am 58 retiring next year but the thought of retirement gives me weakness. My apologies to everyone who have retired and filing social security during this time after putting in all those years of work just to lose everything to a problem you never imagined to happen. It’s so difficult for people who are retired and have no savings or loved ones to fall back on.

Even if you’re not skilled, it is still possible to hire one. I was a project manager and my personal portfolio of approximately $850k of my retirement pension took a big hit in April due to the crash. I quickly got in touch with a financial-planner that devised a defensive strategy to protect my funds and make profit from my portfolio this red season. I’ve made over $250k since then.

Don't be confuse buying the dip in a bear market, with guaranteed future returns. Just because that company is down 60% + from ATH does NOT make it a sound long-term investment. Make sure you're investing in great companies. kudos to Sylvia nicolas.

You can make a nice healthy drink replacement using a tablespoon of boiling hot water, a teaspoon of honey, a teaspoon apple cider vinegar, 3 ice cubes, topped up with cold filtered water. You can add a small amount of finely grated ginger and garlic ( microwaved for 20 to 30 seconds ) for additional health benefits.

Agreed. When I got older on my job many young hot shots kept calling me old man and wise remarks that they were joking but got under my skin. So when I did my own financial analysis and saw my investments from compounding since I started at age 26 were literally more then my yearly social security statement once I got up off the floor. The next day I started figuring out when my f.i.r.e. Was going into effect and it was real soon. What a happy day and I’ve never went back to that work place and didn’t give management a notification until 3 days before my last . For 2 reasons, I worked out of a union hall because I was a construction worker so I was just a number to them so to speak and they had a habit of giving a retirement party when people left . And when I went to them all most employees did was eat like a person who never saw food before or complained about dumb shit. Retirement was the best decision of my life. God bless

$2000 a month is $24,000 a year. Utilising the 4% rule, it means you need around $600,000 saved. To save that in 4 years means saving $150,000 a year. I would argue that is impossible for the vast majority of people. There must have been either extremely generous salaries, prior savings or perhaps the sale of a large asset/house involved

Hi hi, I just saw this - sorry for the late reply! But good one - the numbers r fairly accurate in terms of overall retirement assets, even though we didn’t rely on the 4% rule, we did it mainly w real estate, but the numbers actually work out similar. Like I mentioned in the video, we didn’t start from zero we alr had some in the bank. Even then, I actually did document myself saving $150k in about 15 months time once, after I’d adopted my minimalist life philosophy, and in the Singaporean environment to boot, so as far as real life experience is concerned, it really can be done, in my experience. It makes me laugh that people say I’m the offspring of a SG tycoon 🤣🤣🤣 I’m really not, my parents fortunately do not rely on either me or my sis for financial dependency so from that perspective I admit I’m lucky as hell, but there’s no well of money there that I’ve drawn down from. I merely did well in career early on, and later on I guess we did a decent job at the business. As far as SG earning power goes, I honestly believe A LOT of the populace can do the same as V&i have done if they just saved better and skipped spending on all sorts of ridiculous things SG society convinces everyone they shd hv. I hv contemplated making a video titled “everyone w a fully paid up HDB can retire in bali”. So that’s my thoughts on this

@@JeanVoronkova So whilst I do not want to diminish at all your minimalist life philosophy, it still remains a fact that anybody who is able to save $150K in 15 months must be on a much higher income than average. For example, here in the UK, to save $10,000 after taxes and not accounting for living costs you would need a salary of £159,500 ($202,000 USD) a year. According to UK statistics, this would put you in the top 1% of earners, so only 1 in 100 people here can expect to be able retire within 4 years. So it seems, that being lucky with your career, was also major part of how you achieved this. I haven't watched the rest of your videos, but if this was a big part of how you've been able to retire early, perhaps you can make a video explaining what your job was, exactly how much you earned and if others want to, how could they get the same job, what qualifications do they need, which company should they work for, what other things on your CV helped you get that job? Where there things you did whilst you were working that got you promoted to a higher paying position? The average salary in United Kingdom is £35,000 ($44,300 USD) and in Singapore it looks like it's S$70,000 ($52,500 USD). Any career advice therefore would be much appreciated, as it seems this is a major help. This or having a successful side business. Thank you for replying to me.

Hi Adam, that's cos this video is actually a follow up to an earlier video about our retiring in Bali at age 38 (for me anyway. My hubs was 35). Basically in short we do each hold some stocks n bonds but the main chunk of our investments is rental property. We prefer this cos its stable monthly payouts and the properties we hold has increased in capital valuation with time.

Kuta beach has lots of great schools like Odyssey Surf and many other options - so have no fear u r generally in good hands - the Balinese instructors are really some of the best in the world - patient and very skilled. as I mentioned towards the end of the video, another big advantage we had to expedite our FIRE was geoarbitrage - the fact that we don't live in Singapore and have to deal with its high costs is an important factor. If i were still living in Singapore and i wanted to own a car I would definitely go back to a corporate job with a good salary to expedite my achieving my aim. In the alternative, back in my early years of struggle where i spent months in Singapore in between my overseas surf and yoga teaching gigs, I worked jobs like receptionist at the gym etc - and in that time i certainly did not buy a car. I took public transport and enjoyed my time on buses mainly listening to music and podcasts on my commute 🙂

I understand this is in reference to my recent video entitled "Why I choose to "have no ambition"". If you note, the words "have no ambition" are in double punctuation, in reference to how this phrase is commonly used to refer to people who specifically choose not to pursue climbing the corporate & social status ladder in our society today. From an anthropological POV clearly man's ambition must encompass more beyond just that narrow type of ambition. And yes, my entire channel, if you haven't noticed, is about documenting our journey to FIRE & simple contented living. There's no attempt to disguise anything there.

@jeanvoronkova you ve been in Bali for almost 3years. As you can see now, sharing about the dream life here creates an incentive for people to come here. As this lifestyle is a kind of an arbitrage (ressources from expensive place to generate passive income, living in a low cost area). Naturally, this cannot be like this forever, especially in the expat area of Bali as this lifestyle is promoted to the world . This is exactly what is happening to Bali at the moment, prices are inflating quickly and the expats areas are being destroyed by over development. This minimalist lifestyle then can only work for a couple of years until you have to move somewhere else. Is it OK to be nomad forever ? I have a similar lifestyle as yours and i am accepting that this ideal situation will not last long unfortunately.
