I agree with you about the average businesses need for a website and how this is a great approach. But, I don’t understand what you do if the client says they don’t want all that other stuff and they just wanted the supposedly free website. Won’t they feel like it’s a bait and switch that now it’s not actually,“free”? And if you have built a lot of client websites, you know that it’s always more complicated than that, especially when it comes to uploading their content, getting their DNS settings dialed in, photos etc, it’s all time consuming.

think about it logically, you have 2 options. 1) deliver free website and hope that in the future you can upsell them 2) When you're on the call with them and after your couple of tries of upselling them, they still want the free website only, you can say to them that you're sorry but actually right now with your full capacity you cannot give it away for free, and your lowest price is X and you give them the other features. Another method is that you can cold call the businesses and tell them you made them a website, if they want to see it, they need to book a call with you, before the call you quickly personalize the website a little bit with their logo, few photos, etc. This way you don't say it's free website and you can still upsell them for higher ticket offer or sell just the website for X amount of money even monthly subscription. The downside of this method is that it can get you less people interested bc the offer isn't as strong enough. Plus keep in mind that you gotta be good at cold calls which is mostly communication and fluent english if you really want to cold call businesses and pitch a site. It's the best method in my opinion though.

by the client only paying the hosting fee for the website on your white labelling software, how do you make money or do you pocket that hosting fee?

Hosting is very cheap. Probably like $12 a year. If you are charging 100-200 a month to a client. You are pretty much pocketing the difference. You’d want enough to cover your monthly fee for GoHighLevel which is around $300 monthly. 3 website clients at 1-200 a month would cover it
