I have a 4 inch memory foam 25" X 75" tri fold, about 100 bucks, Amazon. Chopped off a couple of inches to make it fit in my 2018 Subaru Forester. I sleep just as comfy as in my bed back home. ❤

You probably don't need a whole new piece of foam, yet. You only need more squish under the high pressure areas that are the problem. It probably doesn't even need to be as thick as your existing mattress. Try sticking 1 or 2 of your oldest, flattest pillows under your mattress, and see if that does the trick. If it does, then just replace your head pillows. Another thing you might want to consider, first, is a piece of plywood, to go from the weird uneven hip area and extend to the back of the seat. Not only would it make that area flatter, but also could support your weight in the head area, preventing your containers from being accidentally damaged.

Nice set up! I recently moved into my Nissan Altima and a hack I can up with was buying an actual Serta brand toddler mattress. I folded the passenger rear seat forward and slid the Matress right into the trunk (my feet are in the trunk). I'm 5'5 and a side sleeper for context. I kid you not that is the BEST sleep/Matress I have slept on in comparison to the two I had while living in an apartment. It fits perfect and it's inexpensive overall. I paid $72 for it at Walmart....no extra foam or anything was needed just the Matress!

A 4-6" piece of purple foam, which seems like it's a hybrid btwn regular, yellow (upholstery/aka open cell foam) foam and memory foam, may suit your need. It supports weight better than the regular, yellow foam, and molds a comfortable degree, but without flattening, like memory foam flattens underneath weight spots. The Friendly Foam Shop, in Bellevue, WA, is where I encountered that. They'll send you samples. Also consider dense rubberized foam, aka closed cell foam, like is used in flooring tiles and acrobatics mats, to fill in, over that rim and hump area on the floor of your car. Then, place the purple foam "bed" over that. Also, I keep a "pee pitcher" in my car, so that, if I have to drop trouser and pee, it doesn't refract off the pavement and onto my ankles/legs/shoes. A plastic pitcher, with a large handle and a pear-shaped opening on top, that I can fit btwn my thighs, with the wide part of the opening to the front, snugged right up, cupping the anatomy, allows me to pee withOUT having to completely drop trouser and expose my behind. A quick piss and toss, with no exposure! Nobody's the wiser, and I can climb back into bed with clean feet! Esp for those middle of the night calls!

Best part of this was how you move between the front seats and the back. I've never quite figured it out. I drive a RAV4 but for this manoever, it is the same. Thanks.

My mattress, for six years was 3" of Jo-Ann's green cushion foam, with 3" of medium density memory foam from Costco on top. The Jo-Ann's foam was $80, back in 2017, and the Costco foam was $100 back in about 2013 (I used it for my regular bed for several years before cutting it to fit my minivan). Not as cheap as your Home Depot foam, but it lasted for over 6 years and it was the most comfortable bed I have ever owned. It may seem as if a total of 6" of foam will take up a lot of space. However, when you are sitting on it, it mashes most of the way down. But when your weight is distributed the length of the bed, it is like sleeping on a cloud. And, I am a skinny, bony dude. So, not having my hips or shoulders get mashed is a big deal.

That’s pretty good for a non modified vehicle. I agree about the Amazon stuff. I ordered some of the memory foam and it holds up a lot better.

Just saw a tip on better curtains. The gentleman said to use landscaping cloth. You can see through it, it let's light in, but is extremely difficult to see through from the outside. However be mindful of having a light on inside at night.

I'm getting ready to move into my 2023 Ford Bronco Sport Heritage Edition while I travel and work. I have way too much stuff! I was originally going to be camping and not working, but now I'll be a bit limited on power so I'll have to go into towns more frequently. Not sure if I'm willing to leave all my luxuries behind! I have rooftop cargo - a box and a Yeti Gobox 60, but things are still going to be tight! Trying to edit things but it's not easy. BTW I have the Deepsleep Mattress that fits my car perfectly and it is super comfortable and insulated. Well worth the investment. I will be staying close to home for a bit to get a sense of what I really need but I suspect it will still be hard to edit! How did you manage to do it? Do you ever use an SUV tent or an awning or are you always moving and staying close to service etc.?

Really I forced myself by having a small car / storage room, so I had to just get rid of 99% of my stuff. It’s such a relief!!

Could you place a small fold up one step, step stool (the $10 plastic type) over the ice teas, that might then hold your weight as you transfer or maybe make a fold up hinged platform out of wood that would span that area..

So it's not stealth but also if I'm remote camping, when getting in the back directly, I have to figure out where to put my shoes. When I start from the front seat, my shoes stay down by the pedals :)

Thanks, could you turn the foam upside down so that the Head goes to the toes and maybe the cut out will fit both ways? ( probably There is more space at the top so it will not work? ) Thanks for the update 😍💖💖💖

What about a mattress topper? That might be nice. Also where do you park at night that allows for you to sleep in ur car? Have you ever been concerned about safety at night? Sorry for the 20 questions 😅
@elizabethoffgrid
@elizabethoffgrid Ай бұрын
Yep I might do a mattress topper. This city is only really worried about permanent encampments (RVs that don’t move, not stealth, etc). Being stealth and having situational awareness (including being willing to leave at any time) - that’s how I deal with safety issues!

Could you cut the foam you have now so the pieces are still in the dead space and then do a straight piece where you sleep.
