How this video doesn't have 1 million views at this point is unusual. This is incredibly instructional on saving your ax by how you swing. Thank you.

Oh Buckin. I like your place of gas power tool saws and axes collections. it is extremely impressive. I sense you did extremely well. I am extremely pleased with that. the axes to see how performs and cut woods better. make sure take your time to make the axes durable and sharpening. when axes does have a razor sharp. it will cut wood easily. good to go.

That Welland Vale true temper black prince dbl bit axe is sweeet! Being Canadian Welland and Walters are among my favorite axe brands... just gives you that extra bit of pride swinging a vintage Canadian made axe! I've got a Welland Vale 2.5lb head that I hung on a 34" straight handle, cut it down to 31" after it was hung and shes a real beaut... at 6'4" I dont much like anything under 28" and 31-32" seems to be the sweet spot for me when I do the under the arm axe length test or the standing palm reach axe test, 31" seems to be right on the mark for me personally. I'm still redeveloping my axe techniques after years of not using axes but so far i've found 2 1/4-2.5lb axes to be my favorite work axe weight... I can swing one all day and it gets the work done!

Excellent wood for some splitting - Good to see some DB action again. My Buckin Special would have those rounds for breakfast. I would really suggest to the folks that are gonna use their Buckin Specials for loads of splitting that they protect that handle against damage by wood splinters. To each his own - I use an adhesive tape that is easy to apply and sets as hard as steel. Ive chopped through loads of wood and theres no way that any splinters are gonna damage my Buckin shaped handle.
@gmonet87536 жыл бұрын
Ben Schlacher what tape do you use?
@benschlacher61316 жыл бұрын
Hi- I use a tape called Raptor Wrap which is locally available where I live. There are other brands like Gorilla Tape and Fixit Wrap. The consist of a resin and tape mix that you dip in water and then wrap around the top part of the handle that you want to protect. Give it 2-3 turns on top of each other a few widths down the length from where the handle goes into the axe head. It dries super quick (24 hours drying before use is best). The stuff dries harder than steel and is indestructible. It really protects the handle from splinter damage - best decision I ever made - all my handles get the treatment now.

Buckin' do a search for the lever axe. Its a redesigned axe made to flick naturally because the way it's built. I read it's great in straight grain wood but not so well in hardwoods with less than straight grain. Rule #1 for splitting: read the wood! You make nice work of it.
@dns12354 жыл бұрын
Marshy Hello What is the “flick” exactly? Is it the way you swing the ax? Is it Like giving the ax head a quicker rotation at the end of your swing? Or is it moving the ax head left or right before it strikes the wood? If anyone can explain. Much appreciated!

Hey Buckin, as always, I really enjoyed the vidja. There are two things I need to get out: I love the idea to put the Buckin Army in for these jobs. However you will realize this with your 'button', I will definitely be in! The other thing is the the really georgeous single bit that you 've been using after the greek axe. You called it a Paul Bunyan axe, and I think it really is. I have to tell you, I fell in love with this beauty. Please just shoot me an email to get this deal done! Thank you my friend! Love to all Buckeneers!

Is it a twist of the handle at the end or is it a angle slightly off 90 degrees from the beginning? A flick just at the end seems like it would wreck your wrists and elbows of awhile.
@drnrbnta55472 жыл бұрын
I am from southeastern Utah (4 corners). We gather fire woods dry dead pine trees, cedar trees and some utah juniper. Some of these woods are knotty and twisted. Really hard to split even if they are chain sawed to smaller sizes for splitting. They are a good work out.

I had a boys axe as a kid, i actually still have it, no name on it, great steel, i used to pound it through like a wedge. I re hung it on a 18" handle for back packing. but I remembered the flick, something that comes natural after many afternoons splitting wood, kinda let the head twist naturally while it goes in.

Beautiful display of woodsmanship Buckin' Hey can you recommend a good source for wood handles to a guy who lives in Florida? I prefer to hand sort, but open to trusting a good mail order source. I don't usually need a lot of them but the handles I've seen at all our local stores went into the wrong pile, there was one pile marked "good handles" and one pile marked "firewood"... we got the "firewood". Thanks
