This was fun to watch! I went thru something very similar with my cockatiel Hercules. His first 3 hours home, he just sat in the bottom of his cage, petrified. I started with week 1, just sitting next to his cage, reading to him & talking to him multiple times a day, eceryday. Week 2 I started holding my hand in his cage with millet, I stand like a statue for 20 min at a time or until I could no longer hold my arm up. I did this for about 20-30 min multiple times a day. He eventually started taking millet from my hand, but week 3 he would stand on my hand for millet & by week 4 he was out of his cage & exploring his huge play gym I made him. Fast forward almost 2 years later, he is my best bud & I adopted a 2nd cockatiel. Both are my babies & my life! Birds are so rewarding once you seal that bond. I always tell people, taming a bird is just gaining their trust. It take patience & persistence daily. It's a worth it the moment they CHOOSE to be with you. God Bless! Thanks for sharing!!

@ElevenDollarCheese2 жыл бұрын
How's he doing? I think being he's older it'll take a little longer for him to come around. I got a 3 year old female rescue about a year and a half ago, and it took over a month for her to step onto a wooden dowel I made for her. She's still terrified of hands, but steps onto the dowel no problem. She has to be on my shoulder 24-7, even when I'm shaving or she goes batshit. Hard to say what went on before we took them in, they might have been neglected, or hassled by kids nonstop.

Love Goldens I got mine on Saturday last week and he lets me feed him millet and seeds from hand because I sit with him and sing to him from outside his cage for hours and hours each day, hopefully soon he will learn how to step on my finger. He’s still a little bit shy but compared to other birds, he seems to be a quick learner. I don’t know though.. I’ve had him less than a week.

Love it, and looove cockatiels! I caught a few 'mistakes' tho, like the rule of 'if the bird can reach it he can have it' u move it away and 'taunt' him a few times, or at least thats what i percieved it as. Love the nature look, its easy to see ur birds have the best available to them, not to mention omg the nature and location outside is to die for! Like seing how u have progressed since the very akward stiff hand movements u had in the beginning with Sunshine, and I remmeber when u just had Sunshine and didnt have any plans for more birds lol ;D

I tried to let him out recently, covering every dangerous object but all he did is that he flew into walls and then fell onto the bed. @histoirettes5 жыл бұрын
that was awesome! i think this methode will help me to tame a cockatiel that cames to my window almost two weeks ago. i never had a bird or any pet before; but i kinda like it. first i let him free in an empty room for 4 days(what a mess😑), but then buy a cage so i can move him in another warmer room. after two days he didn't like the cage(i guess) because he started to scream so high and turns inside like crazy; so i let him free in the first room. he seems now more relaxed. He sings 5 different songs; but only when i sit and talk to him. i really like him, but with no bigger cage and no plans to have a bird i don't know what to do..🤔
