This gave me just the ‘umph’ I needed to start tweaking my .177 Marauder :). I’m using the 16.1 gr JSB Beasts and I was getting decent groups at 50 yards, but I could tell there was more available. I opened my metering valve about half a turn (total opened 1 3/4 turns from closed) and decreased the hammer spring tension about half a turn, now I’m stacking those Beasts every time at 20 yards and I’ve gotten down to 3/4” at 50 yards - very happy camper now. @@bencematyasmarton559 that's a hard question to answer. The only thing I can say is shoot at the board first, measure the penetration. Then tune your rifle for more power, shoot at the board again and measure that penetration. Having a chronograph is imperative to rifle tuning. I do understand, not everyone has one. It's another cost. Also, depending on what projectile you're shooting, the penetration into the board may not show any difference between a non tuned and tuned air rifle. If you're getting over a quarter inch of penetration then you're probably doing fine with the power. Accuracy trumps all regardless of power.

@Monkeydad1969 Жыл бұрын
The RVA, rear velocity adjuster or hammer spring adjuster will stop when you go CCW (counter clockwise) until it stops. It will come off the threads if you go clockwise all the way. The hammer throw (striker) will hit the face of the hammer when you go fully CCW, but it can come off the threads if you you go too far clockwise. You don't need to adjust the velocity adjustment pin when tuning with the hammer spring and/or the hammer throw...just be aware you will limit the tune if tuning for huge power gains.

@@Monkeydad1969 of course. See the reason why I’m concerned about power is because I’m so use to how I have my .177 break barrel. It shoot like a 22-short. I DO NOT SEE THE PELLET OR SLUG N THE AIR! That’s what I’m use to! I realize that for the power I’m use to dealing with I need to upgrade to a pcp which can be easily modded and not a hassle to tune! I’m looking for the key ingredients; new plenum, and other adjustments that can yield 1080 or 1200 fps in .25 cal at least around 26-30 gem slugs🤷. I am looking at the Avenger-X and the Maurauder in .25 cal! The Avenger -X have so many mods. But I’m an old Benjamin buff from back in the 80’s and I wanted to compare and see which is easier to tune and which one can yield the most power and is it possible to put a. Otto’s on a mairauder? Or is that what the Cayden is for (it has a bottle)?
@Monkeydad1969 Жыл бұрын
@roderickthomas3417 1200fps in .25 is not an easy feat, even with all the tech in pcp rifles. On your .177 break barrel, what weight pellet are you shooting? Idk much about the Aveng-X. It has a lot of tunability. The M-Rod lacks the reg. A Cayden to me isn't the best platform for power. Also, there are other brands that are more than capable of getting you where you wanna be, as long as you have the money to spend. To be honest, I think for power and accuracy, you can't go wrong with the AirForce Condor or the AEA Challenger Pro. I have both, and they are amazing.

@@barttate3228 933fps is a lot of speed. But if your barrel is good, then accuracy shouldn't be an issue. Just for the speed you want, you're going to have to do some work. Hi! Thank you for the great video. I tuned my .22 cal Benjamin Marauder (gen 2/synthetic stock) as specified in your video. I haven't had a chance to chrono it yet or conduct an accuracy test with the new settings. So I'm looking forward to that! My question is, do you find the sweet spot for how much air pressure you fill the rifle to changes with tune settings? What about the guns preference for pellet make/model? The reason why I ask is, my gun liked exactly 2,600 psi, and with shooting H&N terminators, (16.36gr) I could get around 769 fps, and at 35 yards I could get a three shot group with all three holes touching. I'm curious to see if my rifle will now like a different air pressure charge and also pellet type. Thanks again and looking forward to your insight.
@Monkeydad19694 жыл бұрын
Rifles like to shoot what they like. At any tune a projectile may shoot different than before. Generally, if a rifle shoots a particular pellet well, than it usually stays the same. The tune I showed is for power so expect an increase in speed. You may find yourself needing a different pellet. Maybe even a heavier projectile. This is when you will have to start testing. Things will change in one way or another. The hope is that you'll get 2 magazines with a speed increase, and accuracy.

@Monkeydad19695 жыл бұрын
The gauge hole in the tube is probably catching the o-rings as they pass over. When you insert the valve and gauge block and get to the o-rings slowly push them over and use a small rounded pick and gently push on the o-ring as it passes. Put more silicone on the o-rings as they pass. Also, when you take the rifle down, and the tube is without the internals, smooth down the gauge opening, the openings for the bolt, sear, all the openings. Get a ball hone and smooth the entire back end of the tube where all the punched openings are. Get a ball hone with a fine grit.

Is it possible to produce 30-33 foot pounds using a 30cal huma regulator and a power house valve? I am having a hard time getting the .177 15gn slugs up to 950-1000 fps with my benjamin marauder. 177cal. I have a 20 inch barrel. Any help would be appreciated
@Monkeydad19692 жыл бұрын
I got over 40fpe with a .177 Marauder shooting 21gr Piledrivers and 19.5gr Varmint Knocker slugs. I opened the ports on the barrel and valve and put a softer valve return spring in it. With the .30 Huma and the same work I did, I don't see why not. The only issue, and don't tell Don I said this, the Powerhouse valve for the Marauder in anything less than .25 isn't what I would use. It's made to push more air than the .177 can take. You will just choke the valve out. Even with the reducer Don sends with it. The .30 Huma barely has enough plenum for the Cothran valve. I'd say go with the stock valve. If you're not afraid to open the ports, then open the barrel and valve to .156. Hell, send it to me and I'll do it for you. You also need to increase your hammer throw by backing the striker all the way back to the hammer face. I'd also back off the hammer spring (counter clockwise) then turn it 3 full turns clockwise. Also, make sure to clean up the ports once you've opened them and definitely polish the lead in, polish the valve port too.
@airgunsofidaho48862 жыл бұрын
@@Monkeydad1969 thanks Joe. I'll test out the stock valve and make a longer stroke on the hammer. Do you think the power house valve would work better with heavier. 22cal slugs? Like 30gn +
@Monkeydad19692 жыл бұрын
@@airgunsofidaho4886 Like I said in my reply, anything less than .25---actually---anything less than .30 I would not use a Powerhouse valve for. It just flows too much air. Even my .35 bottled M-Rod regulated at 1600psi I'm pushing the .35 Polymags at 900fps/146fpe. It's just too powerful for small bore Marauders. Now if you were using his Discovery Powerhouse valve, then yes...I would do .172 (yes .172), .177, .22, .25, maybe .257. I have built a bottled 2260 in .177 using the Disco Powerhouse valve and it's a mean rifle. I should also say this...I have my .177 M-Rod pushing a lot with the JSAR valve. NO hammer spring tension, and full hammer stroke. It is 60fpe with 19.5 grain Varmint Knockers. Yes, my barrel port is .156. So once Matt gets everything set at JSAR you may wanna talk to him. Side note, just cause I brought it up, the M-Rod Powerhouse valve may be really nice for a .257 build...hmmmmmmmmm.

@Monkeydad19694 жыл бұрын
I've never used them. Not saying they don't work, but not for me. Joe Brancato installs them on the M-Rods he sells, so there may be something to them. Stiffer hammers are useful. Say with the stock valve and you want the power without spending a lot or with little effort. Air consumption is an issue then. If using aftermarket valves, my favorite being the Cothran Powerhouse valves---the first balanced valve, then a stock spring is amazing. But balanced valves like the Cothran or JSAR are a different vid altogether. Those are made to produce raw power.

Are you taking about the hammer spring adjuster or the hammer strike pin on the actual hammer? If it's the spring adjuster is the spring the stock spring or a softer spring? How often do you adjust it? Does the adjuster have any play in it when you make adjustments? If it's the hammer striker pin, is it loose when you make adjustments? You may have to take the rifle apart and put a little blue loctite on the threads. Just make sure you have it set to where you want it. You can always use a dab of loctite on the hammer spring adjuster to keep it in place. Also, the loctite will still let you adjust the hammer spring w/o any issues and it will still keep the adjuster set where you leave it. Did these mods on a 2019 .25 cal with the Walter barrel. My marauder gained about 30fps with benjamin 27.9 grain pellets. I didn't lose any shot count. In stock form 16 shots the fps ranged from 788 to 805 with an average of 796 fps . in modded form the fps went from 801 to 835 with an average of 821 fps. The FPS went up when the pressure got below 3000 psi. By the 16th shot the pressure is right at 2500 psi so I have a few more full power shots left in it. Is this typical of marauders to have such flat FPS to about 16-20 shots then fall off?

Thanks for the video, very helpful. Two part question, I'm somewhat new to pcp guns. Do you de-gas when you make these adjustments? Also, I have a regulated maurader, is there anyway this would mess with the regulator? I didn't realize when I got the regulated version it was a set to a lower fps, I just liked the shot count. I wouldn't think it would matter just wondering your thoughts. Thanks!
@Monkeydad19695 жыл бұрын
You don't have to de-gas the rifle. Only if you need to actually get into the tube. The adjustments won't affect the reg. But you probably won't get real high numbers because of the reg.

hi Joe; i have the .25 cal. and i'm shooting about 740 fps. and i think that is a little slow. It is deadly accurate. Something i really like about shooting. That is my number one concern about shooting air rifles' but if i can get more speed and keep my accuracy i'll be very happy. Love your video. Very informative. What kind of speed do you get out of your .25 cal. I think when you buy a Benjaman marauder .25 cal. the spec.'s are in the high 800's if not 905 fps. Am i correct? Also how do i know if my Marauder is regulated or not and how do i know if it has the de-bounce deal. One more thing Joe; what kind of shot count will i get boosting everything up. thanks for all the info

Hey Robert. All my Marauders are all custom at this point. I've either made bigger calibers out of them or modded them. My current .25 is regulated at 2100psi and I get an average of 822fps for 40fpe for 30 shots. But again it's modded and has a Hill valve. I'm not even sure what I got stock. I'm just not giving you a lot of info hear. I would say to you to try what I explained and see how it goes. If you really want more power and aren't afraid to take your rifle apart, then put a softer valve spring in your valve, use ¼" vinyl tubing for the transfer port, and shoot a heavier projectile, say like the JSB Heavies or Mk2 heavies. Please feel free to always reach out to me.

I fill to 3200psi often on my personal rifles. But on one tune for my bud I filled to 3kpsi and got 2 mags with an 894fps average, high of 905fps, low of 868fps with a 11.49 standard deviation shooting the 25.39gr Kings. That's unregulated of course.

What is your fill pressure you are starting at? I assume 3000-3200. Thanks for the information! Ok so I did the tune and I ported the valve and the breach to 3/16”. Before I drilled it out it was stock. I put the piece of 1/4 tubing for the transfer port. Before I did all this I had the hammer ccw all the way back and a full 8 cw on the hammer spring. With the jsb 25 gr. Pellets I was getting 865 FPS by filling to 3100 psi. After I drilled everything and put the tubing in and adjusted it like you had yours set at 5 and 3 I am now shooting at 700 FPS. Any thoughts? Thanks.

As you can see his first 8 shots were great. I only filled to 3000psi and the Kings were flying pretty good. Also, anything past 6 turns on the hammer spring will put the spring guide off the threads, so the hammer spring and guide are loose. If you push on them with your alan key you'll feel it. I wonder if there wasn't an issue with the valve in the beginning. Also, since you opened the valve exhaust, did you change out the valve spring for something not so stiff? That will help with getting more air. If you are on GTA or Airgun Nation look me up by my KZbin name and send me a pm. I'll be more than happy to exchange numbers.

Monkeydad1969 how’s the accuracy? The way it’s setup now I’m getting dime sized groups at 60yds. I heavily modded my hatsan Bullboss .25, lightened/polished the hammer, opened the transfer port/barrel to 15/64”, JB welded the valve & made single hole facing the transfer port, adjusted the spring tension till I got 950(ish) FPS w/JSB 33.59 heavies....so I’m getting @70 ft/lbs accuracy is good to @75-80 yds which is what I hunt at. I’d like to have the marauder at the same range with @50 ft/lbs. but accuracy is critical.

@@darrenfrith3958 I actually haven't done any real groups, but...I tag P-Dawgs at 100-187yds accurately. The work on your Hatsan is impressive. To get 50fpe on a .177 Marauder you'll need a longer barrel to take advantage of the extra fps. That'll get you closer to 50fpe. Or a aftermarket valve like a WAR valve or a Cothran Powerhouse valve. Only thing is that the Cothran will over power the setup in .177. His valves are made for .30 and up on the M-Rod. I have put them in .25 M-Rods, but it's a fine line between just right and OMG!
