Hey guys in this video I cover how to use block pulls to increase your deadlift, I go over why I like block pulls vs rack pulls, and how you can program in block pulls properly, and how to use them when you have back pain deadlifting. If you are wondering how to get a stronger deadlift, this video is for you! Enjoy!

Great stuff! I’m in Mitch Hoopers program right now and he has conventional deadlifts early in the week and a variation later in the week. Block one was 18” dead’s and this block is snatch grip and snatch block pulls. 👍🏻💪🏼

Hey Coach! Love the content. As only a recreational lifter, I watched a deadlift comp recently, but I didn’t get the rules? Why doesn’t everyone lift the same weight? And more importantly, what are those judges looking for? Some of those lifts looked like cash money to me and got called as a miss? I thought it might be a video idea. Thank you sir!

Should my block deadlifts be quite heavy, to train the weaker points in my lift? Or should I basically do the same weight that I would in a regular training session? Thank you for a great video :)

I remember when rack pulls had a huge following back in like 2016 or so and people loved them, then suddenly people started saying, "Oh they don't help, oh they're useless." But use blocks instead and people don't bat an eye lol They're a super effective workout that are easier to overload compared to deadlifts and they impact deadlift strength directly.

Rack pulls off of safety straps are even better in my opinion. It makes the intial pull even stiffer, since all of the weight is lifted once you break them off of the straps, versus off floor or blocks this could happened in increments depending on the flex in your bar, hence making it better for sticking points. Also, safety strap racks pulls are even less damaging to a barbell than either rack or block pulls.
@SzatStrength
@SzatStrength 3 ай бұрын
that's a good idea I should use them and see how they feel! Thanks for the recommendation.

Harder to set the height as the straps do not hold at the same height as the rack setting. can definitely still act as a fulcrum and bend the bar if done improperly whereas block pulls are impossible to do so

Are you referring to conventional block pulls? Personally I find the difference between pulling from the floor or 3-4" blocks to be meaningfully greater when pulling sumo compared to conventional.

How far below the knee and how many sets and reps? I was thinking about starting either block or rack pulls for 12 weeks then switching to the other for another 12
@GraveStrong
@GraveStrong 4 ай бұрын
@@boom-bm1kl Its about 6-8” off the floor. Pretty high! But worked well for me. Oh and I did a top set of 1-3 reps one week then a top set of 5-10 reps the next week. Trying to add weight in each rep range every time I alternated. I got from 550x1-615x1 and from 465x8-500x8 over a few months on that height.

Does deficit deadlift has a similar beneficial effect?
@SzatStrength
@SzatStrength 3 ай бұрын
Deficits I think help a lot to generate power/strength from the starting position and make regular deadlifts "easier" because you are starting in a less optimal position. If you can get really strong in deficit positions then your traditional deadlift becomes easier IMO. However they can be pretty dang fatiguing so make sure they are programmed correctly.
