8:07 after spending 2 years on my game, I finally decided to put a snippet out there for the world to see without thinking too much, and I got absolutely demolished on reddit. The level of criticism was a lot heavier than I thought. Ugly game, clone of this, clone of that. I felt like puking and thought of giving up gamedev altogether. You have no idea how much I appreciate this last section you added to this video. Thank you so much! It's also crazy how you can easily manipulate their perception of the exact same content just by changing the angle of approach. The reddit cravings for sob stories and virtual signaling can be wild sometimes. If I get to recover from the small trauma I'll definitely put your teachings to good use! Provide value/tutorials instead of asking for wishlists is extremely good advice!

Don't give up! The internet is cruel. Just expect that people will be terrible. On my recent video about my 7 month journey learning gamedev, I made a short for it and someone commented saying that I sounded like I was speaking at my dad's funeral. At the end of the full video, you can see it is actually dedicated to uncle who passed away recently who was a gamedev. He inspired me to learn game development. As long as your reasons for making games stay pure to what initially inspired you to try and you are making games that you actually would want to see in the world then that is already a success. I wish you luck!

Some nice tips you got there ! I use reddit for game promotion and learn a bit or 2.... I guess being more cautious with the post and putting more time will be my focus for the future :)

Excellent video! Even though I regularly visit reddit I have never used it for game dev but I should really look into it.
