first coffee after my morning walk/run with my neigbors dog and 30 minutes yard or gardening with non motorized tools ( you might call it cross training) the morning walk/run is more exhausting than my usual easy afternoon run I don`t know the exact numbers for my cadence, but my walking cadence feels higher than my running cadence reading tip for interested comment-readers: In praise of walking Shane O`Mara no idea about which muscle fibers, but i can tell as a fact, when i walk, my glutes are fireing on all cylinders......oh, before i forget, walking is high cadence with push the body forward just when the foot hits the ground, no big leg swing forward, lots of purpose no leisurely window-shopping-like- walking

Maybe your cadence is higher walking because your stride is shorter? I can walk pretty fast, but even really going at it, my cadence is about 140. Whereas running, even at an easy pace, is 168 or so. And reading about your non motorized tools made me smile. No. You dont need strength training if you do a lot of yard work. And I am going to Google Shane o'mara right now... I don't know who that is. 🙂

@@IRunThings he is a neuro scientist from Dublin. I got also his new book Talking Heads: The New Science of How Conversation Shapes Our Worlds. The book about walking is a very nice read, but the new book is probably more in line with his main field of work over the years, both my walking and my running cadence got higher as my stride gets shorter and shorter because of the loss of muscle edit: i use the garden tools as much as i can with both hands at the same time or alternating with the right and left hand to keep the symetrie.....and i get laughed at for not using power tools ( exception is a motor mower for cutting the grass ), but my purpose in doing things is not getting it done, but use my time in the best way i can to enkoy what i do

@@justanoldfashionedrunner605 these books sound right up my ally... and I totally understand the need for doing manual work. It keeps us strong both physically and mentally

Yeah, my coffee cup is my constant companion too. Once upon a time I was strictly about freshly brewed coffee from freshly ground beans, straight black with no sugar or anything. Nowadays I don't care as much as long as it's hot and strong and I'm willing to compromise on hot, and I put in a fair amount of sugar too. I might depend on it for the calories as much as the caffeine. Great thoughts on the run walk strategy. It's all about keeping those easy runs really easy, especially so when the weekly running volume gets up there.

I don't put sugar in mine. Only a splash of milk. I like it very strong as well. 🙂
