That moment he described at 2:00 just happend to me after 3 months of struggling with swimming, struggling with my breathing and hardly making 10 laps. in one of the sessions, suddenly, it 'clicked'. just like that. In the middle of a stroke i suddenly felt completely relaxed, i was floating on top of the water. And i swam 10,15,20 laps, by that point i stopped counting and just swam. The pool felt so short all of a sudden. It was one of the best moments I've ever had in sports. if you're a beginner swimmer and you're struggling with swimming as well, just KEEP AT IT. Just keep going, even if you feel like you're declining (the workout before that one was my worst ever, i stopped it in the middle). It will click for you.

I started swimming last year. I'm moving around a lot and not always had pool access so it's not been steady progress. you have different videos explaining the breathing to you on here but one really clicked, and after a frustrating few swims recently (stopping after two laps nearly every time, struggling with breathing, exhausted so quickly) it kinda clicked and felt so smooth and easy with front crawl/freestyle. I basically couldn't nail down exhaling every time my head went into the water, no matter the stroke. Great feeling uh!

Yes same for me!!! I once watched a utube vid and someone said, “you can walk for miles and not get out of breath?” Well swimming is the same. You just have to relax and then you can go and go and go. This revelation helped me so much and I went from 100-200m to 1000m/1200m

I used to swim 3-4.5km per session, three times a week. I had to stop swimming to recover from a brain aneurism (not caused by swimming) because the head twisting for freestyle breathing was potentially fatal. I fully recovered after a few years and was ready to resume swimming when covid caused my pool to close. Eventually, after a five year break from swimming, I got back into the water in May, at 8kg overweight, so much resistance and no stamina at all. Doing 25m was frustrating, my first swim was 1000metres, and my recovery took days, aching muscles everywhere. Having been a swimmer since childhood I knew from experience you just have to push through the first few swims and set up a regular routine of a target distance and regular swim sessions. I went every other day, and maintained 1000m of freestyle, I didn't have the stamina to do Butterfly even though it's my favourite muscle and stretch workout. My swim session has to be finished within an hour so I worked on gradually increasing speed and distance up to 2000metres, it took me a month. I'm basically a lazy swimmer, I don't like stopping mid swim as I find it easy to quit the session if I stop. After I reach 2000metres now I add 400metres of medley and 200 metres of 25 metre sprints as fast as I can in the tired state. Adding the medley and sprints at the end of my session I found has given me the best stamina increases and overall an increase in my basic lap speed when doing my distance. My latest routine is swimming 5 times a week, I avoid weekends as the pool is way to crowded and too slow to train at the level I want. Now I have better sprint burst power when I want to overtake slower swimmers when doing my distance laps. I respect slower swimmers as the workouts they do are harder than those of experienced swimmers, so no matter what level you swim at, the key is to enjoy your session and swim at your potential and the beauty of swimming is the more you do you are undoubtedly going to get better, faster and smoother with each additional session you do.

I'm not experienced in thriatlon, but I'm a swimmer, and if I could give you any advice it would be to focus on your technique. I've seen a lot of people preparing for thriatlons or open water swims who learn a bit of technique and then go into practicing resistance, doing long ass workouts, etc, thinking that is the most important thing. But it is actually the opposite, because if you are preparing for an ironman you ALREADY HAVE the resistance to swim thousands of meters, you just gotta learn how. Learn a proper freestyle technique that empowers your efficiency and glide, and get rid of any major mistakes, like a straight arm out of the water, a sloppy kick or catch up, breathing with your head up, etc, because these things are not only going to make it harder for you but also slow you down. Yeah you can get used to it, a lot of people do, but it is holding them back, they could swim faster and easier at the same time without improving their conditioning even a little bit. When you have a good technique, now start climbing up with the distance and you will be surprised, you'll end your practice and be like "was that really 6400m? It didn't feel like much! ". This said, I have mad respect for anyone who dares challenge an Iron Man, because I don't think I would :). Good luck man, I'm sure you'll crush it!!!

The only thing that discourage me from doing a triathlon is swimming in open waters, I have a huge fear. In the pool, I was able to work myself up to 4 miles but definitely would be only able to do like 100m in open water and then I'd panic XD

Bro this is so dumb. This guy is motivated a but also has got the time to do it. If you started to train today you'd get there as well.

@@kiwikiwikwikiwi Bro, give a man time and he will procrastinate it away. Give a man limitations and he will be creative around it, but hive a man a blank sheet and he can do less with it. This dude has the mentality to make greatness out of nothingness. The more time I have the more I squander. I am lesser, but I am working on bettering myself 💙😅

This was awesome. I literally live next to a lake and never had the motivation to learn to properly swim, i'm more of a mountain person. But this video motivated me to go out and actually improve my swimming! Thank you!

I love your commitment, your drive and your sense of humour, you sang when you were tired and I guess your humour got you through your swim too. I need to learn to relax when I swim, will keep this in mind next time. Great job!

So inspiring. I have been working on my endurance as well. I could not finish a lap before, and now I can swim in open water, but I am far from doing the 10k.
