Loved hearing how things started for you, and these are absolutely great tips. One of the main things is when you kind of transition from a amateur to a professional mindset, which you talk about really well..And your right, some of these things, like building a portfolio, should seem obvious, but not everyone knows how important this is. How many pieces in your first portfolio is a question I've asked many time. For me it was 8 pieces, and then I started showing my work (which actually led to commissions).

Im told im good at art and I did it in high school. I've been thinking of it as a side hustle but the attention makes me sooooo nervous! It gets very bad. There was a guy I used to see who'd always come to my place, but he has never ever seen the painting that stays in my room. Ever. Before he'd come over I'd hide it. I need to break this fear of people seeing my work because this could really be a side hustle. And its not that I fear that ppl will think its ugly, its just that I don't like it when they stare and say "wow this is good" or whatever. For some reason I just get so shy it makes me feel naked. And when they see you're all shy they'll think youre getting cocky. Someone once told me that and its worsened my fear of ppl seeing my work. Ugh. I should get over this though

Thanks a lot for the video! I was looking for a while for an artist talk and explain a bit more about the practical aspect of the business routine of a full-time artist. BTW, it would be interesting to hear about the tattoo that you have (I'm from Israel and it was cool noticing the Hebrew word of the tattoo :) ). Thanks again!

Thanks Noa! I'll definitely try to create more content that goes into the practical side like you said. As for my tattoo, it is chesed or hased - loving kindness and faithfulness in Hebrew!

@yomama60573 жыл бұрын
sorry if this is a little late. my school has an art club for 10th-12th graders that displays art work and sometimes goes on field trips and allows volunteer work involving art. (i'm not sure if you have anything like that though.) you could try asking your relatives or friends to talk about your art!

Even though this video is a year old it still is very helpful. Thank you for this. I do have to ask how you go about networking with other creatives exactly? I am starting to do that in my area but many of the other creatives are not professional artists and instead call themselves hobbies to. So how do i reach out to people online who are doing what i want to be doing? How do i collect and create those connections?
@DianuhAerin4 жыл бұрын
Tayler Jakeway hey Tayler! I’m so glad you’ve found this helpful. Have you heard of Rising Tide Society? They have local chapters where professional creatives meet. Also you can attend creative conferences like Create & Cultivate and meet people that way!

You seem to be one of the few people that have a small following on social media but still a FT artist. How would you say you promoted yourself online? Bc i know just posting alone wont make the people somehow find you. What tips do you have on bringing the people to your IG profile?
@Mayumi2219884 жыл бұрын
I think it is not about the many followers but if your followers are really die-hard fans that follow you. they should be specific audiences
@Mayumi2219884 жыл бұрын
You can also link your fb page to your IG and other type of platforms
@DianuhAerin4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jane, I agree with Sarah. You can have a large following and making very little income, OR vice versa have a small loyal following and making 6+ figures! In terms of bringing people to IG, I have other platforms that points to my IG and I'm also very active on that platform. BUT like I mentioned, larger following on IG doesn't equal more income. Hope this helps!
