Explore the science of how in vitro fertilization (IVF) works and how it helps people struggling with infertility have babies.
--
Infertility affects 1 in 8 couples worldwide. But in the last 40 years, more than 5 million babies have been born using in vitro fertilization (IVF). How does it work? Nassim Assefi and Brian A. Levine detail the science behind making a baby in a lab.
Lesson by Nassim Assefi and Brian A. Levine, animation by Kozmonot Animation Studio.

Nothing wrong with the IVF just me, i had another son at 5 months, daughter after him came at 6 months and my twins came at 7½ months, I just have problems carrying kids.

In vitro fertilization can be a touchy subject, but when used the right way for the right reasons it can be very useful to people who need it. Ways it can be useful for people is if the husband or wife has infertility or if either of them has a cancer that doesn’t allow them to be able to conceive or for homosexual couples who can’t conceive naturally. Just because someone is unable to make a child doesn’t mean they can never have any ever. This is a way for people to be able to have their own child, with their own genetic makeup. The people who are unable to have their own children shouldn’t be punished. In vitro fertilization is their way out of their sticky situation. Yes, it may not be natural but we have the technology to give people a child even when they may not be able to normally. It is not like the parents are specifically “picking out” their child. They are randomly taking eggs out of the woman’s ovary and fertilizing them with a random sperm from the male and putting the finished product back in the woman’s uterus after about five days to finish its development before birth. Essentially, everything is happening, just not in the body. But, this is what has to happen for some people so they can have a child. No one should be denied the gift of a child, no matter how it came about.

My husband is missing his vas deferens. I have pcos. We’re starting the IVF process and we couldn’t be more excited. People saying “adopt”. It’s not that easy. And other than our issues we’re completely healthy adults. We deserve to create a part of ourselves. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it controversial? Sure. But we plan to have every embryo we create become a loved part of our family. That’s our biggest thing. We won’t let a healthy BABY go unloved. We understand what it entails. And we accept the journey we’re on.

Thanks to the team for making the video. It is really helpful for couples like us. I was finding such videos from a long time. At last I found these videos out which are really helpful for me. I can't conceive and someone told me about IVF. I don't know much about this so I decided to search it on internet. Your video really helped me a lot to know what this all is. Thanks for helping me out. I am really happy to see this video. Best of luck!

As selfish as it may sound, not everyone wants to take care of someone else's child. It could even be for health reasons, you may not know about conditions the child could have. The last thing you want to do is bring a child into your house if you can't care for them properly. It's also a very complicated and lengthy process ( and usually expensive ) process and not everyone has time, patience and money for it. Sometimes people completely forget about the wellbeing of the parents also. It's not all about the children - there has to be balance. Also, it's really personal preference - most couples prefer to have a baby they're genetically related to, some women may even prefer to experience pregnancy as they feel it's more 'worth the wait' and can bring you closer to the child AND your partner. Again, it's not selfish - it's preference. Every Time there's something about IVF, there are so many people saying 'just adopt', not everyone wants to. No one should feel pressured into a choice different from their preference. Especially for one so life changing.

I don't think IVF should be funded AT ALL on the NHS. (I'm English). Believe it or not, it is. I'm 35, married with PCOS but I cannot comprehend how IVF should be 'free' and state funded. Having a baby is not a medical necessity when there are so many more urgent needs for the funding.

You don't have to be infertile to adopt. Fertile couples choose to have biological children all the time instead of adopting. People who want IVF have just as much right to want to have biological children. It's not their duty to adopt. If anything it is everyone's.

They weed out the defective ones, two tails, swimming in circles, etc, since they only need the head for the genetic materials, the defective ones may not fertilize correctly and cause defects in the baby as well.

I think I'm pregnant but will take the test tomorrow morning. If I am it will basically be an unimaginable joy that i thought impossible for me. Ivf is so hard. So many variables.
