I have tried to get used to the new photos app, but it just isn’t happening. I removed all the sections that I don’t use and/or want and still don’t like it. I wish they would provide the option to revert back to the previous layout.

Apple is still in its infancy with AI so hopefully it gets better over time. However as it is right now… Samsung’s AI definitely takes the W here. Hopefully by the time Apple’s AI goes live 100% it has perfected its editing algorithm.

Where do I see which videos are taking up the most space on my phone? It used to be under Settings/iPhone Storage/Photos and then it would be listed from biggest size to smallest.

Under your iCloud section now. Settings -> Your picture -> storage and then you can pick photos and review then video and it should give you your video files sizes. I think there is another place to but I don’t remember off hand.

The photos app is so bad. I just want Recents/Roll back, none of the other crap. For that reason I returned my 16PM, and will stay on 17.7 and 14PM

This Photo Cleanup being limited to the newer models is a copout. Why can’t they put it on atleast the A15 devices when Google’s magic eraser can be used on less powerful devices?

One of my pet hates is when people take loads of pics of the same thing and then never filter them out by deleting the similar images. It's very bizarre behaviour. I'm hoping the new photos app can find all similar photos and delete them (as opposed to only surfacing exact copies). Not as bad as people filming video in portrait though...

Everytime I see a YT praising the photos app I think to myself… there’s someone that doesn’t really use photos in a serious manner (they don’t organize them, sync to their Mac, keyword them, etc). They just take photos ad nauseam and have a ballooning library. Well I guess this is who Apple is now targeting. F the purists.

Apple are years behind in AI. My guess is they wanted to do the usual Apple mantra of fleecing their customers for every cent they have by rehashing years old technology. Unfortunately for them AI took off faster then they envisaged especially on Android so now they are in catch up mode, hence why features wont be ready for a year or so from initial announcement and a two year old phone can’t run it, or maybe it can but they simple use RAM as excuse to try and get folks to upgrade. If you’re not an Apple Fan boy/girl I’d wait for the iPhone 17 or even 18 as that’s when comparable AI functionality may be available on iOS.

I’m on 18.1 on my iPad Pro (M4) and I do a lot of photography and love the new features for quick edits. To be honest a lot won’t like it but then we still have the English measuring system even though Metric is soooo much better. People hate change!! But I think people will get use to it.

Don’t you know why it does not work without Wi-Fi? It’s obviously because this it not processed offline , it’s processed on Apple servers. Any iPhone would be capable of doing that, but Apple decided to limit it to iPhone 15 Pro or newer to make people upgrade. 😡😡😡

( iph 15 hv 6gb of rams - the lack of 2 gb of ram becoming an issue now?) it’s like they failed to plan the longevity for ip15. What are they gonna give us in ios19? A customized icon on homescreen? I’m totally fine with the new look. I’ve toggled most of the extras off except recent days which I find helpful. I also noticed that when you are viewing the main grid of photos, if you swipe from the left, it will group images into months. Swipe left again, it now groups them into years. Very helpful feature. Doesn’t work when you’re on the main home screen, you have to scroll up a bit to be in all photos grid view and then it works. BTW, nice video overview of the 18.1 features.
