You could easily have it both ways. My head canon is that Iroh gave Lu Ten the chance to call off that last major push before it happened, and Lu Ten, though unsure they would manage it, went through with his father's wishes, not wanting to see him let down. But the risk gave Ozai's agent the perfect opportunity to take Lu Ten down. Which resulted in Iroh blaming himself for not paying attention to Lu Ten's misgivings.

When an Emperor choose an heir, they somehow chose an heir that can produce another heir for the throne. Since Lu Ten is Iroh's only heir, it is plausible that Ozai targetted Lu Ten due to this fact. If he went against Iroh directly, the percentage of it is happening is low because Iroh is surrounded by his trusted people and hardly have any window for an assassination to happen. Having Iroh giving up Ba Sing Se's siege is a bonus for Ozai and merely speed things up for him.

@@proxali1461Well, Zuko did some good things before siding with Azula and betraying both Iroh and Katara in Ba Sing Se. If Iroh was a good man since the beginning, why did he decided to continue the war and lay siege in Ba Sing Se, a massive city with a lot of population. While, there is no account of casualties on that siege, it is safe to assume that there is a probably a thousands of casualties on both side, since the siege lasted for 600 days, there is also the factor of starvation among the civilian populace. That is pretty much an example of Iroh wanting power, he didn't care for the lives under his command or the people they are conquering, he just wanted the entire Earth Kingdom. Iroh losing his son in a war that he decided to continue allow him to reflect upon his action. Just like how Zuko reflect on his action even though, he had finally earn his father's acceptance. In the end both had realize the error of their ways and try to better themselves. In the case of Iroh, instead of fighting for his throne, he decided to be a father figure to Zuko, and even accompany his nephew in exile, trying to guide him in his destiny. Personally I prefer the the idea that Lu Ten was killed by an arrow shot by an Earth Nation peasant who himself was incinerated seconds later by Fire Nation artillery on day 599 during the assault on the outer wall. Had he stood a foot to either side it would have missed. Had he been an inch taller it would have deflected off his armor. I think that him simply being killed in battle in a completely random way alongside thousands of of other soldiers, as well as the specific circumstances being unknown to Iroh is important for his character. It forced him to recognize that Royals aren't special. Not everyone gets a chance to go down in a a heroic last stand or epic duel against an enemy champion. Sometimes even the most powerful benders with the best training and equipment get unlucky. Iroh not knowing exactly what happened further reinforces this and is a constant reminder of the human cost. Its a hint that no one who was with Lu Ten and saw what happened survived.

I kinda hate the idea that Ozai murdered Lu Ten, not only because it's kinda unlikely (as why wouldn't he murder Iroh also) but also because it's a thematic mess. Iroh's son as a unfortunete consequense of war that made him rethink what's valuable to him. It made him see that whatever benefit Sozin saw in the unification of the four nations wasn't worth the cost. It didn't change Iroh into a pasifist but he decided that if he is going to sacrifice anyone ever again it should be for a cause worth dying for and not just ambitious conquest And Lu Ten's falling in glorious combat also shows the audience the real cost of war, since there really weren't any characters that died on-screen and even off-screen Lu Ten is pretty much the only named character that died fighting in the war (Jet and Katara's mom died off-screen I quess but they didn't really die fighting in the war)

(not a theory, as a theory requires evidence. But most people confuse the two concepts anyway.) Ozai is definitely enough of a psychopath and ambitious enough to do all of these things and more just to get into power. Thematically, however, I feel like it takes away a bit of the message that the show is trying to portray with Iroh. Iroh at the very least believes that it is his own fault that Lu Ten died. His radical change of character is due to his soul-searching and the wisdom he found later on, that war only breeds death and destruction, not glory like the fire nation propagates. If Ozai is responsible, I feel like that would ruin the actual life-lesson, even if it is a plausible scenario.

I believe it’s an extreme long shot. Pun intended and Lu Ten did die in battle so somebody had to have seen that happen.

"How Iroh's son died"-meanwhile missleads it by his theory not backed up by anything...

isn't that what a theory means

@@ngari117 Yes, but he doesn't say this is just a theory right in the title. We can only see it in the description after we have already clicked on the video. This is what a clickbait is

Reminds me of King David story He fell in love with a woman but was already married then he gave direct order to put husband in the frontlines when he was sure to be killed. after his death he took the woman in then a profit visited him, and made David snapped out of it and he repent to god. He would not died for his sin but his and the women’s first born son died shortly after giving birth.

ngl an antihero spin off of Iroh would be great.
@darthlazurus43822 жыл бұрын
It's my own opinion that Ozai had nothing tae do with Lu Ten's death. I do not doubt intention was there but opportunity wasn't. Iroh was a respected general so he would hae run a tight ship in his siege tae stop Ba Sing Se getting reinforcements. I'm not saying you are wrong, but I am afraid I dinnae buy your theory. Nae disrespect intended.
