I had a similar security experience in FRA. After missing the flight because my flight before got a bus gate and the security took about an hour (in fast lane!) I was rebooked and got SSSS. The luck wasn't on my side this day.

Excellent report again! Austrian is a great Airline, the do&co catering is superb, on European hops you can pre-order a meal too for 15 Eur, worth very penny

I think the Airbus A350-941 would be a cool new aircraft for Austrian Airlines to go along with the 787s on their long haul routes like this. Would be a good replacement for the 767 in the future but the 767s are nice aircraft along with the 787. They could use the A350 on their current 767-400 routes and the 787 on the 767-300 routes. I really like that new Austrian cabin. The moral of the story is if you don’t like waiting in queues, don’t go to JFK or any New York airport in that matter. Good video. Liked.👍

Austrian doesn't have 767-400s, they have 6 767-300ERs and 6 777-200ERs. And if their longhaul fleet ever gets replaced, it's going to get replaced by one single type of aircraft in terms of fleet harmonization.

Paul Durlacher Sorry I got confused. You are correct about the 777-200. And I can agree that they will get one type of long haul aircraft. They should give another airline the 767s but I think they should keep the 777s because they are a good size of aircraft and they have more than enough range for Austrian Airlines. But it also would make sense for them to get rid of the 777 for fleet harmonization like you said. I think the 787 will be a nice addition or replacement for their long haul fleet. Your experience at JFK is not the worst of all possibilities. I waited at the security line of Frankfurt Airport last autumn (September, 26th) for two and a half hour! Yes, 150 minutes - and only for the security. JFK is quick and easy in comparison with Frankfurt.

I love your videography skills and the food was excellent. I must say the plate design too is quite unique. And that bread roll? That's quite a huge roll tbh. Haven't seen such a big roll yet in other airlines. Overall the TSA remained me of an airport where it was extremely chaotic situation at Security Check and Immigration.

There is no exit passport control in the USA. I’ve checked-in online successfully numerous times. Even still, as in many countries that do check, it’s done after all the back drop formalities. Sometimes before security screening, and sometime after (like in Vienna terminal 3)

I had a good experience in this airport, you had bad luck. Waiting room was so wide and it didn't took me more than 20 minutes to pass security.

To be honest, I always find the check-in experience at Newark to be much easier than JFK. And many of the major international airlines fly from Newark, as well as JFK. I would love to visit Austria. My grandfather (and my name) are Austrian. We are Jewish though, so the history is very unfortunate. Nonetheless, I still dream of attending the Staatsoper and the Musikverein.

How common is motion sickness when you get turbulence? I am planning on taking my first long haul flight and am scared i will throw up, haha.

Motion sickness is something that barely happens on board a plane. It is much more common on boats or cars. Turbulence usually don't last very long and are not so strong. Also, there is no regular up-and-down movement as on the sea with waves, which is the kind of motion that triggers sickness on some people. So, you will most likely not have any problems with this. On all of our flights I have never seen any passenger that suffered from motion sickness. In the unlikely event there are sickness bags at every seat and the flight attendants would be there to help you. If you are scared, though, you can prepare yourself with some preventing chewing gum or something like Vomex. A relaxing audio book and a window seat will further assure that you have a good journey.

Austrian IAD to VIE in August was the worst business class and customer service experience I've ever had. 2 rows of seats (mine included) recline did not work and lights flashed for the entire voyage. Promised by captain and purser my business class seat would be refunded. All I ever got from customer service was a 300 Euro voucher that I can't use. Next flight delayed 3 hours and not compensated for it either.

Yes, the 767s of Austrian are obviously aged - Lufthansa don´t want to buy new planes for the Austrian daughter company until now (Austrian is owned by Lufthansa). But Austrian is making the very best out of it. And they´re not the single airline still flying the 767 - e.g. Delta as a major US carrier is operating much more 767s in the year 2020 than Austrian.

Nobody needs a menu in economy class given the limited choice. “Chicken, pasta or nothing?” Lol. Can’t customize so why waste paper and resources?

There are many airlines, like Singapore Airlines, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Qatar Airways etc. which do offer a menu and three or four different food choices in Economy Class. Offering only chicken or pasta is actually quite bad. With the menu you also get the information about all ingredients, so you really know what other stuff you will get besides the chicken or pasta. So in my opinion a menu is very useful for the passengers and also gives a nice touch.

@@flightexperience_official I hear you, however, we are talking about Austrian Airlines in this case. Besides on Emirates, you get two or three depending on route. On Singapore And Turkish, you get three. In my economy class travels, I have never experienced four choices. For 2 choices it’s a waste. Of course this is my opinion. I used to cringe when Air France would hand out those tiny little menu cards. Just for the one minute that we look at them and dispose. That’s adding to more waste.

The breakfast was mediocre (although the last time I took them from Toronto some few years back, I also got a yogurt with the pastry) but still better than air Canada’s useless banana bread slice

I really like the 767 for transatlantic flights and I find Austrian Airlines to be a great airline. Sadly their breakfast concept in economy is rubbish. I don´t like the muffin either and most other airlines, like SWISS or SAS serve much better breakfast. Your experience in JFK was horrible, I prefer Newark.

The long lines are emblematic of the state America is in. It is fast becoming a third would country in terms of public infrastructure and amenities. I mean, the roads in America are in a worse shape than pretty much anywhere I have ever been. And the airports are atrocious.

AUA; took the same flight. Good legroom in economy; 32". Good meals but small. Breakfast muffin was too rich; chocolate disgusting. Really dumb to serve a chocolate muffin for breakfast. LOL you also did not like it. They should serve a blueberry muffin which is delicious. Return. Snack was insufficient. Tiny half sandwich. Crew mostly nice except on the return a steward who would miss people and forget bread or drinks. Also unfriendly. May have been new. Fares very expensive. Fortunately I did not pay. Planes are old but inside nice. Good entertainment. Yes you pay to pick a seat on top of the high fares. For $100 could have had extra legroom. You can also pay 20 Euros for a better meal.
