There are far fewer monks than priests in the Serbian church. As a result, monks are given much more respect than most priests. So it is a bit of a misunderstanding to think of a monk as being a "simple monk". Not criticizing you, just attempting to clarify a bit.

This is very close to the coptic orthodox church, but there are 2 elections one by the parish councils and another by bishops then a child picks an envelope after liturgy

Oh wow! I thought the Copts were unique in electing their Patriarch by electing 3 candidates and then after a liturgy picking the next one through raffle. A Greek guy even made fun of this method before me once. Cool that the Serbs have essentially the same system

@@andreasr2454 idk, but in the Syriac Orthodox Church I believe it's just the synod of bishops which elect the next Patriarch. I don't think there is more to it. The Copts do it by drawing lots

This is the third time a Patriarch will be chosen like this. The first time was in 1990 when Patriarch Pavle was chosen after barely making into the round of the final three due to his already advancing age. The reason this method was applied was to prevent interference from communist authorities, who openly meddled in the election of previous Patriarchs.

If there is an issue with serbians working alongside kosovars, and the church has been operating out of Belgrade, why not just make Belgrade the new center of the church? Serbians can still visit kosovo peje/pech and see the old church still, and having the head of your church in a mainly islamic community seems to be not a great spot, as well as not being nearly as accessible as belgrade.
