Appreciate the comment and vibes! There are definitely some gems out there that can get the job done on a budget, that's for sure. Might require a little more tinkering and learning to fix any issues that might crop up, but that's part of the fun.

They cut corners here and there but this could be a really good beater city bike with caliper change it seems. It surely has fender and rack mounts right?
@PRH1236 ай бұрын
What’s a caliper change mean, hydros? Doesn’t seem to have any rear rack or fender mounting points, although on the front fork their seems to be a mid fork mounting point. Why would anyone want to ride a beater around the city, makes more sense to ride a good city bike around the city. Riding a beater would just make you miserable.
@drill_fiend10976 ай бұрын
@@PRH123would you leave your carbon bike or ebike locked on public bike rack outside of building? I would refuse to do so unless there's an indoor bike rack at the destination. Losing a $300 bike would hurt a wallet less than having an expensive bike stolen or destroyed by a failed theft attempt or being kicked by drunkards.

@@drill_fiend1097 I wouldn’t ride an e-bike :) A good city bike has good parts, but doesn’t look posh, and so doesn’t attract attention.

Given that it's a steel frame, does it have the good ride quality that is typically associated with steel frames?
@PushCruiser Жыл бұрын
Yeah, absolutely. Ride quality feels great - I really like the feel of the steel on road and gravel. Sometimes I feel like my tire pressure is low because it rides smoothly (I actually keep my tire pressure kind of high, 60-ish).

Worth noting that (as you mentioned further down in the description) Giordano is a company owned by Kent Bicycles (Giordano is their more "high-end" name), Kent has been around for a long while but primarily make cheap bikes for Walmart and the like. Definitely a mass-production brand, you'll often find parts they skimped out on to make room for the better-named components. That said, they make some pretty solid bases, I've heard positive reviews on the mountain bikes they do for Walmart, though it's definitely within the context of their low prices and in some cases it _is_ better to go for the cheaper options if the frame isn't too different and do the component upgrading yourself. (I've got a Kent Trouvaille that I built up on my own and I'd definitely say it's a much better value now than the Giordano MTB options that were in the next price bracket, just not a beginner project.) For $300 I'd say this is a pretty good deal, based on the components and stuff I would have expected it to be something like $400-500 from Walmart/Amazon or wherever. Honestly at their MSRP I wouldn't be that enticed by it, but $300 gives plenty of room for dropping some of your own components on there and not only staying budget, but having exactly the parts you want. Been kinda-sorta wanting to try a gravel bike as well, something like this would be a pretty tempting starting point, not a whole lot I'd change either aside from comfort stuff like pedals/stem/bars and whatnot! (And just keeping an eye on the rest of the components to see if anything starts showing early wear.) Definitely give it a once-over on bolts and such if you haven't already though! My Kent had half its bolts under-torqued and an incorrectly routed chain right from the factory, and I wouldn't expect them to care all that much more even with their "higher-end" name. From the sounds of it you've already racked up some miles without issues, but give it a check anyway, I got pretty far on my Trouvaille before realizing my rear brake disk wasn't tightened all the way down and starting to clunk on its own bolts...

@PushCruiser - I know it's been months since you've released this video but are you still happy with this bike? It's on their website for $280 right now and I'm seriously thinking about buying it for Winter riding. I bike commute year round even in Winter months - snow, sleet, hail don't matter to me. Currently, I have an older upright Specialized commuter with Shimano twist shifter (thought I could handle it but the more I ride it, the more I hate it) with Acera rear der. Never own a bike with Claris or Microshift components, are they decent for being lower end parts? I have looked into a mountain bike but they're in the $400 and up price range and I simply need something decent that will get me from point A to B and not worry about it being beaten up. This bike looks the part and fits my budget. Thoughts?!?!
@hawker604 Жыл бұрын
Thx for this video. Bike has a lot of potential for those on a budget! Is the BB external bearings (the component specs seem pretty off)? Would you describe the riding position as more upright (how tall are you?). Any thoughts if the frame ca accept a tire wider than 40mm?
@PushCruiser Жыл бұрын
The BB is a sealed bearing (Hollowtech II style). The riding position I'd say is more aggressive, but that could be because the reach is a little long for me (I have a new stem coming to shorten it a bit). With a "proper" fit I imagine it's about 60° angle when riding on the hoods, so fairly moderate and you can look ahead/around well enough. I'm 5'8", roughly 174 cm. People that are in between frame sizes should probably go down on this one, although I don't consider the medium frame too large for me necessarily. Hard to say how wide we can go with the tires: the fork can definitely accept a wide tire, but at the bottom of the rear triangle it looks like there might not be enough width. 44 mm, maybe? Hard to say to be honest.
@hawker604 Жыл бұрын
@@PushCruiser ty for the detailed reply. I very much appreciate it, especially the commentary on fit. I’m 5’9” and think I will go for medium as well and adjust seat position and/or stem length as needed. This is my first try at drop bars. This seems like a great way to get a very complaint frame and figure out what kind of geometry and bars suit me before dropping serious money on a name brand bike. Thx again Push!!
@couldbericher Жыл бұрын
@@hawker604I don't think it can take a rear tire wider than the stock 38mm. At least mine can't. The chain stays have a weird appearance and look like they've been molded to barely accommodate the 38mm tires. Anything wider and it will rub against the chain stays. Again, I'm not sure if this is just with the piece that I ended up getting. There's more room at the forks and you can put a wider tire in the front.

I agree, that is false advertising to show one groupset on the bike, then switch it out. That's fraud.
@PushCruiser Жыл бұрын
Yeah, they should ultimately do what I saw in another listing: it shows that you'll receive one option or the other. On a wholesale level they definitely save money with MicroShift but at a retail level you would only save a few dollars. MicroShift R8 seems to be heavily favored over Shimano Claris from some of the videos I saw (subjective, of course).

Hard to say tbh. I’d be comfortable with trying 44mm on the back, but another guy mentioned he was putting 48 on his. The bottom of the rear triangle looks a little tight if you consider mud clearance and such. The fork can take a big boy no issue

Must have been on sale... Over $600 on Amazon as of Aug 1 2023... Still under $400 on their site, which does explain the components being an either-or as well. Certainly looks like a good option compared with rebuilding my old Cannondale h500 with all new components, which would cost more.
