What hotkeys setup do you use to control familiars?

A very good question! - Especially since this guide doesn't exactly go into micro specifics; which would greatly increase the length of the video In general - this is my layout for Visage: 1 Controls Visage 3 Controls the Birds 4 Controls Visage and the Birds 5 Controls Bird 1 6 Controls Bird 2 If I need to split the birds quickly, it's by use of tapping 5 and 6. I also have control groups set to false (This can be done by putting in: dota_selection_groups false into console!) which means you can now shuffle through from Visage to each bird by using your unit tabbing keybind; I do this from time to time, but his natural bound D often does the trick! The majority of the time though, you can get by by using his default cast key (d) to slam birds down; so most of the time I'm juggling between 1, 3 and 4 - RARELY do I find the need to split the birds apart from one another, unless people are trying to kill them on rising from the ground; in which you'll often want to resummon, assuming you're not dead and it's off cooldown of course. Hope this helps! He really isn't as intimidating to control like a lot of other micro heavy heroes!

Haha, cute intro. I have a love-hate relationship with Visage. Sometimes you feel strong, sometimes you feel so weak.

I was wracking my brain about what to use for an intro regarding Visage - then I remembered a certain mouse just went public domain, so why not! There are certainly games where it feels like you can roll over enemies, and others where it feels a lot harder to do! On average, he's seriously a lot stronger here in recent years, especially ever since his transformation into a universal hero + Soul Assumption buff. He just does SO much damage and control.

Thank you for this video. What do you think about prioritizing ability upgrades as 1-3-1-1 for pos 4 Visage where the main focus is on Soul? Or should we emphasize his first ability? I'm learning how to play on Visage, Chen and Enchantress and buy Helm of the Dominator on them. What do you also think about the 1-1-3-1 mid lane build? I saw that such a build was discussed on Reddit and it worked for those people.

Good Questions Generally speaking you don't really want to focus all your points into W because it short-circuits your ability to play with birds entering into the mix at level 6. Nowadays I'd say you can pour two points into it, courtesy of getting one level of your passive for free at level 1, but other than that, maxing Q (and using it correctly) leads to massive damage increase in lane, pre and post level 6 (familiars) I haven't personally heard about a 1-1-3-1 mid-build for Visage, and it sounds kinda jank; and I can't exactly see who would do that due to how much you'd lose out on it, but who knows - anything is possible! Good on you for getting into Visage! It's an interesting road ahead, and you'll learn a lot from playing him.

Phylactery on Visage is also great, I just can't pass it up. You can even chase an enemy from far away with a zero charge Soul Assumption so your slow triggers and birds can catch up. If your lane is going well, you can buy it after bracer/wraith band at roughly the time you hit level 6, and the power spike is just insane. Your 1 skill point nuke goes from 230 damage to 380 damage (stronger than most level 4 nukes) and the 1.5 sec slow keeps the birds on the enemy without needing to Stone Form, giving a lot of additional damage. I try to play without it but I really feel the loss of control and damage.

I did try it prior to making the guide; and I wasn't exactly sold on it myself - that said, Visage is super adjustable, and by all means if you're winning games (and having fun!) with going phylactery, then there's nothing wrong with building it. A bonus positive is that Phylactery also builds into Khanda later on; and being a universal hero, Visage does have a surprising amount of base damage up his sleeve, even without going for increased right clicking items.

I play visage as pos4 and Chen as pos5 (yes I’m a hero spammer), agree with your assessment that visage is really OP in the lane. I usually build whatever my team needs after vlads and boots of bearing, eg pipe, crimson, halberd, lotus, etc

Spoken like a true Chen player - Love to hear it! Yeah, much like Chen, especially when played as a position 4-5 and you're not going 'core items', you're a swiss army knife that can deviate your build to whatever your team needs Pipe? No Problem. Drums? Yes Sir. etc. As an added little tidbit, especially because you mentioned playing him as a support - While Solar Crest is largely seen as NERFED in general (which it was, due to the self-cast attack speed being removed), it is worth noting that if you pick it up on Visage, you CAN use it on one of your birds to massively increase it's dmg output. If you're pushing a tower solo or don't have a core to buff with the item, slapping it on a familiar seriously increases it's DPS output.

I would definitely recommend you play around with bots or unranked first, especially if you are new at micro heroes! I hope you stick with him though!

Respectfully disagree with the +6 damage, the potential output feels lacking and i’d rather have more uptime on GC even just for the move speed Edit: and the bonus damage isn’t boosted by vlads anyway

Glad to hear it! It's absolutely true. I've been running a lot of math on damage done early in lanes (roughly the first 8-10 minutes); and Visage always comes out with the most almost no matter what - it's just bonkers how much damage he brings to the game in early, mid and lategame. If you want a more thorough run-down (albeit more rambly) I've made an entire replay analysis of one of my Visage games, and most of the stuff I go through to try and achieve victory/stomp conditions! Good luck with the gargoyle man. He's both fun and strong right now.

I don't think this hero is that strong in high level pubs. 48.3% winrate and dropping on D2PT, and similar 46.7% winrate in last week's pro matches. It requires a good lane, and feels like ass to play from behind. The lack of a good second item after vlads is also awkward. Orchid into bloodthrone feels very cheesy, and is easily countered by dispels by the time it comes online. Aghs also feels low impact for the gold cost, and is also easily counter played by grouping up and detection.

You might be looking the wrong place on D2PT - The website has been a bit janky since some of the updates - i.gyazo.com/3ddae97860c6c185cf23635975ac4ae5.png This is from today right now. Visage is generally very rarely seen in the pro scene, much like heroes such as Meepo (although finally, he's being picked - he's also arguably THE most broken hero this meta) Like I said in the video, I really can't recommend him highly enough. He does a lot of everything; and he does it very well. He has super high damage, he has super great laning, his push is among the best of the game, he stuns, he debuffs - he's just overall a fantastic hero. The caveat is that you need to be able to control him and make the most of him, so if you've only poked around with him for a few games, chances are he might feel underwhelming.

That page clearly states it's under development. If you got d2pt/meta, the hero is now at 47.4% winrate, dropping to 44% at 9.5k mmr+. The hero simply does not "do everything well". The hero struggles to play from behind and relies on others to frontline for him at all points in the game. I spammed visage to immortal when wraith pact was a thing so hero control isn't a problem.
