You don't need to buy water or some complex RO system. One of my 3 tanks is natural / Walstad. I use rain water for top ups from my outside water tank. My rain capture tank system always runs off the first 100 or litres or so of rainfall into the drain to wash out the first traces of dust and dirt so it doesn't get into the collection tank itself. After that its just pure rain which is collected through a fine mesh filter. Rain naturally falls and fills up and dilutes water ways all the time. This is nature at work and it's free. So for Walstad or natural style tank it's perfect. No worries with phosphates, ammonia, nitrites, nitrates and hardness. My rainfall pH is usually around 6.6 which works well for my ecosystem.

Just for clarification. The list with hyper phos says that those things can CAUSE hyper phos, not what having hyper phos in your body does to you. Hyper phos can't put you into DKA or cause infections, but DKA and infections can cause hyper phos.

@@walstadmethodstepbystep 4-5 ppm of phosphate in drinking water is incredibly unlikely to cause hyperphosphatemia. The EPA guideline on the maximum safe allowable is 40ppm. If you're really concerned, buy a reverse osmosis filtration system with a remineralizer. Grocery store water is reverse osmosis filtered and very pure (0-5ppm total of all minerals, metals and so on). Using pure RO water with no buffers/regulators will harm your plants and fish as water with no minerals or buffering capacity will suck critical minerals (like sodium, calcium, magnesium) out of them via osmosis.

in general, tap water is good water, you need to be more careful if you use well water

Might want to look into getting a reverse osmosis water filter there not to expensive on Amazon and there great for fish tanks and drinking water.

As far as I know, the osmosis filter removes all the minerals from the water. That osmosis water must be remineralized to be good for consumption

I’ve been drinking RO water for 3 years now also some of the drinking water ones have a remineralize stage after the normal RO stages. I’m sure u know there is also several products used to bring up the tds of your tank water, I find these work well and last a long time. In my opinion RO water is much better than drinking tap water in most cases.

Thank u! This helped me in two ways! I've had troubles for some time now since I moved to the city. I have to get a test kit asap and check for phosphates! My tanks will thank me as well I'm sure. Does distilling water help with the phosphates? I distill my water I give to my plants and when I top off my tanks I use distilled as well. Curious on the distilled water???

I'm glad I helped you. I am not a fan of distilled water. If it is not good for me, why would it be good for my aquarium? You can use other aquarium products to reduce phosphate

Best to consult a doctor (not google). I had a similar concern about rain water (I drink rain water). My Doctor explained that it is not harmful to drink for a normal healthy person with a good diet. Your local water authority will know all about it (ie medical concerns). Sounds like your water is ideal for plants. They need that nutrient. The opinion of some random guy on youtube😂

What do I think about ? That your local supermarket was very happy to sell you a lot of mineral water bottles. And that there are many other hobbies probably more suitable for you, due to your bad water

Out of curiosity, I tested the water bought from the supermarket and it is better quality than the one from the tap. I didn't measure the plastic particles dissolved in the water .... that's another story. For another hobby of mine .... I don't have enough money to buy a horse ... :))

hard to imagine that your phosphate is so high? Are you testing the right way? some of your plants look sick. looks more like lack off nutrient than high phosphate... thay dropp old leafs.

I use the test correctly. I know that the plants are not doing well. but I have nothing to do, they also had a lack of light, I made 2 blackouts to get rid of the algae. see the picture from the youtube channel, that's how the algae were.... )
