When the oil hits the wood at the end, the 3D effect nearly pops off the screen! This is a custom end grain cutting board that I built using maple, walnut & cherry hardwood. It’s an intricate board to put together with a lot of steps along the way but the end result is totally worth it. Make sure to subscribe for more custom woodworking videos and if you'd like to own this or another custom, handcrafted board, head over to my website for ordering. To see what I’m working on right now, make sure to follow me on Instagram. Thanks for watching!

There's truly something to be said about having the right tools for the job, but the tools only do what they're supposed to do. The difference is the craftsman, and that's exactly why your work is so beautiful! I used to have lots of decent tools, but my mom got really sick. Sadly, we had to move closer to her doctors, and that meant I had to sell my house & most of my tools. It happened quick, and I got peanuts for them compared to what I paid for them. I kept a few but there's only so much room in an apartment's closet so I had to downsize again. Mom was sick for about 8 years but her final 3 were torture. I turned 40 on this past Sunday, and it was exactly 9 months after my mom died. I've just recently begun slowly getting tools (I have a place now so I can get back to it). My tools were my passion: I dreamt about them. Lol I used to sit in my shop and watch TV & smoke cigarettes in the middle of the night because my shop was actually in my basement and nothing is louder than a planer or jointer at 3AM in a 100-year old Baltimore rowhome. Just something about the smell of sawdust, glues & stains & paint, tobacco smoke and the hum of fluorescent light tubes that makes a guy happy. And absolutely NOTHING can make a guy willingly give up his shop... until his mom needs him. You know, the funny thing is I sit and think sometimes about having my shop and if I made the right decision in walking away from what I had. It took me 12 years to get to what I had and wonder if it was all worth it. That's where the funny part is: every single time I ask myself if I'd do it again, I come to the exact same conclusion: you're goddamn right I'd do it again! I miss my shop, my tools and the things I'd have made in those years, but the idea that I'd have had to let mom go to a nursing home or knowing she'd have suffered even more than she did? Nope. Now I can build myself a new shop and this time, I won't settle for decent or cheap tools. Or maybe I will... but the one thing I will always be is at peace with my choices. The same cannot be said about my brother. Sorry, I didn't mean to ramble like that.. sometimes it just feels good to share with other people who have common interests.

I'm speechless. At Sur La Table, that's a $2,500 cutting board. There are no words for the beauty of that creation. I made one similar to that one, out of 5 of the most exotic woods on the planet. Then I woke up. Too bad were not neighbors. I could learn a lot from you. Wow. Wow. Wow. Well done, sir.

This is cool. I made a cutting board like this when i was in school in the Late 70's but my pattern was different. The way you used the walnut to give it depth is clever, I wish i had one.

First of all, I want to congratulate you on your amazing work, patience and diligence. Your studio is amazing, including the guitars on the Wall, and how happy I would be to play the blues with a cold beer after work.
