Speaking of male beauty, SLB did it again with Jim Sarbh in Padmavat. I was in awe of that man. ✨ There was a relatively recent well recieved malayalam film called "Bheeshmaparvam" which has a man in the item song (very 70s themed). Song is "rathipushpam", which was relatively viral here 🙌

Love how you have traced not just the journey of item numbers in Hindi cinema but also the journey of female energy from being shy and dependent to bold and proud!

Like many Indians, I have a deep love for Indian cinema. It has profoundly impacted my life in various ways. The languages I speak and even the way I perceive things are heavily influenced by the rich tapestry of Indian films. I'm enamored by the meticulous attention to detail, the nuances woven into each frame, and the sheer artistry that goes into crafting every scene. It's like a masterful symphony for the eyes and soul. Thank you for your incredible work in bringing this cinematic magic to life. Consider me a devoted follower from this moment on!

My problem with item number is objectification and context. Sexualizing your own self while being proud of it is okay, liberation of your own sexuality like "namak isq ka", " kaata laga", "dum maro dum" etc is very needed. But at the same time, the context of many of these songs is like a villain is enjoying dancing and the poor heroine is made to dance to save her lover, to generate money for orphanage or to distract the villain etc. We see only villains wanting to go to bars and all. Heroes only see or involve themselves in item number when he is searching for the villain. The girl in the choreography isn't the main lead in many cases, she is just a bar girl who has no relation to the movie, which changed in the 2000s. Like in dilbar, John is just roaming from here and there to find the villain. Also even though sheila ki jawani was empowering for a woman, the commentary of akshay saying "akho se *** krta hai" was still not empowering. The girls in the item numbers weren't respected in many cases, this has changed and is changing. But what can we expect when besharam rang becomes a political topic instead, in which the woman is embracing herself, is the lead, is respected. There are exceptions but mostly it is just a promotional strategy to make a banger. We want something like WAP, anaconda or side to side but we get overly objectified numbers instead of accepting our sexuality for our sake instead of male gaze's sake.

How do Bollywood actresses wear short dresses despite India being a very conservative country?

I really enjoyed this video and your unique perspective on this subject(also kudos to the edits made, i bet that must habe been quite painful to do 😅). Another aspect I really apprecieate about it was that there was a seperation between the descriptive and prescriptive aspects of your analysis which helped me further gauge the subject. One question I have for you is if you think that since its origin do you think that the treatment of this subgenre went from regressive to progressive in a linear fashion, or do you think there were massibe pendulum shifts(i think the latter may be true)?
