In this video, I'm not talking about outright propaganda films like The Kashmir Files and The Kerala Story. I'm sticking to the portrayals of men and masculinity in commercially successful mass-appeal films. Still think politics and cinema don't go together? Watch this video and decide.

I'm sorry to everyone I scandalized by flashing Dwayne Johnson's measurements 10 seconds too early. 🙈 Edit: This video was recorded before the crackdown on Arundhati Roy and the houses of innocent Muslims. Just to clarify, these are horrific signs that the government is still trying to show 'strength', even after their lack of response to the J&K attacks, the NEET scam and the railway tragedy. The fight for democracy isn't over. Keep speaking up. Jai Hind.

We r different human beings we can agree to disagree but since I love your Cinephiles aspect of your personality that doesn't mean I love your other aspects too like political views or food choices etc i'm here because I think our ideas, thought and perspective about movies and cinema as art matches somewhere...

The topic is too good Also narratives from news, movies, social media all simply wrong, fake, false or to spread hatreds. And everything is politics, even some friends say don't talk politics (if we speak up for the justice), but they post or text the "festivals", which are the real politics by hindutwa. So if some one don't care politics means he/she are privileged so not worry about the "others"

As an Adivasi thank you for pointing out the casteism of RRR. Only few people raised their voice against this. For example Komuram Bheem knew 5 Languages - Gondi, Telugu, Hindi, English and Urdu but by the end of the film Brahmin character Alluri Sitarama Raju taught him "How to write" it was so baffling for me. Also what I didn't like the most about Janwar was the cow urine drinking scene and "Make in India" dialogue scene - It confirmed that this director is regressive Sanghi.

I don't think pathan argument of having adversery as ally holds as I belive success of pathan is more signifier of narrative around Srk at that time. I mean if that were the case tiger 3 shd have been a blockbuster. Finally regarding jawan , While I agree that he is a rebel with cause, I think you in your analysis are undermining the cause of your political adversaries, it is just that their causes are different from what you consider important i.e, for some their faith in a diety, or dealing with a terror state with heavy hands , or getting a water tap or housing (Antodaya) may be the cause to which they ascribe to, srk just amplifies the message that are too generic, you giving it your value judgement as if they ascribe to left wing or Congress in India, is a shallow understanding of Indian politics. For ex when you say elite is trapped in this bubble , Remember that BJP won most of its seats in Northern India, and while it is true rural vote is the reason bjp lost, the reason might not be that they were less or more polarized rather multiple factors like fake news of taking away reservation , arrogance of bjp leadership, revival of Congress etc were the reasons. While BJP treatment of women and its heavy handed politics cs did play a role in its loss, ascribing credit to it solely would be a reach. And it is ignorant of various forces holding it together and tiring it apart. Finally, while I understand what BJP govt is doing with Arundhati roy amount to legal harrasment , it is a legit case(not conviction), a country have rules a regulation you can't escape the trial if you did something wrong in the past or in the folloy of youth abd activism as that is w very dangerous argument( And frankly it helps BJP in shifting focus on bigger issues like Train accident and NEET) On bulldozing houses, that is just sad reflection of the state of Indian politics and shitty legal system, the heavy cocktail of two is what you see in rhese cases. I am angry and yet apethetic because I know the only solution to these is litigation and taking issues via streets to the people of India( like in farmer protest) because otherwise politicians have no incentices to change status quo. P.S. I am not saying BJP is right or wrong, rather I am saying your presentation of Indian politics from your lens is distorted because of your inherent biased. What is needed is a case for more civic awarness and courtrooms to not remain feifdom of urban middle class and elites

Everything being political is a Carl Schmittian concept, suggesting that within the modern nation-state, even the most personal choices-like whether we consume beef or pork-are subject to politicization for the big boss to decide. This viewpoint reflects a deeply colonial mindset that has been effectively leveraged by the far right of our nation. Over the last decade, our nation has witnessed a decline in empathy, ethics, and gracefulness-inherently human qualities, and perhaps even transcendent, helping us glimpse the divine. We should move beyond the notion of everything being political and embrace art and cinema for the sake of gracefulness and love for the other....great video dear.....

Even in old times when there was less media , I think in politics people were always drawn towards men who speak in a very assertive agressive,self-righteous ways. I think people equate speaking with strong words makes the speaker strong . Being able to take a side , and unapologetically supporting it through and through is something people look up to . Maybe its because everyone is flawed and they want to feel supported and superior even if they do wrong . They naturally gravitate towards leaders who bash the opposition harshly . Now in this age women are able to contemplate and 'properly' get into deciding their votes, they choose people like RG who doesn't seem to be so male aggressive in their approach towards getting votebanks . Yes . Everything is politics. Being apolitical is also political. Such a nice video , its like discussing with some on tea time 🔥 .

The problem with Kannada cinema is that there is no film going culture in Karnataka except in the parts bordering the Telugu and Tamil speaking states. These areas tend to like the hero-worshiping kinds of films which is why massy Kannada films resemble Telugu and Tamil potboilers. That said, there has always been a set of evolved film-makers and authors (whose stories were turned into films). There were Girish Karnad and Girish Kasaravalli in the past. I have also heard good things about Puttanna Kanagal and Shankar Nag but am yet to explore them (beyond Malgudi Days). In the current set of filmmakers good things are happening in films made by those raised in and appealing to audiences from Bangalore and the coastal belt. The coastel belt audience is also a little unevolved (stuck in the comedy genre phase), but the film-makers are not. Raj B Shetty and Hemant Rao are my favourites followed by Rakshit Shetty. Kiranraj and others lesser known directors are also trying to narrate different kinds of films. There is an art-house movement alive even now but does not attract as many audiences and remain restricted to festival circuits. In short, I would not equate Kannada cinema to Telugu cinema. Coming to Kantara, it has some uncomfortable moments, but it is not trying to justify the bad behaviour. The protagonist gets told off by his mother countless times for his behaviour including the way he treats his girlfriend. It is meant to be a depiction of waywardness. For every Kantara, there is a Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye. Unfortunately, Hindi-inclined Cinephiles do not discover the films that do not cross borders in a big way. So, you end up watching only the KGFs. I appreciate GangsOfCinepur for being more adventurous in this respect. She has covered a wide range of films and discovered many of the under-appreciated gems.

The video was weaved so intricatically that it was smooth like silk. 🌊🌊 Kab khatm ho gaya Pata nahi chala. 🍒 Cheery on cake is your voice A delicate balance of confidence with tit bit of softness here and there. The pauses while talking , giving away examples but then quickly coming to the main topic of video , all of these just made the video so much watchable. I have always wanted to become an orator like you and make videos just like this Just as smooth as silk No break in rhythm throughout the video.👍👍👍👍👍👍 As an audience of the video and now a fan of you I must give an answer to question you asked in the last BTW I am just a teen who has zero vote impact and who is curious in many fields like cinema, politics, history , IR ,etc.🤓🤓🥸😎 I am still deciding which ideology to follow and which party to support For now i am neither left nor right , but Indie wing 👈 ❌❌ 👉 ❌❌ What I could get through your video is ki right wing is hyper musculanity👊💪🗿🗿 and left is so liberal😊, so secular 😊 just like an ideal world 😇yah they have their flaws but this is the crux of their ideology I used to think same . And this viewpoint of mine just became rock solid🪨🪨🪨🪨🪨🪨 after watching left wing and even right wing you tubers ( because these right wing guys were just so much drowned in their hyper musculanity ki they just don't want to give valid point and facts just pouring down🤢🤢🤮 their emotions towards left guys with so much hatred😤😡 😡😡, anger😡👿👿👿, sometimes even abusing🤬 towards other end while on other hand left wing you tubers were at peace😇😇😇😇😇, good muculanity, fun going😄😄😄, even handsome🥰🥰 😅😅 🤭) But some thing just started to erode my rock solid 🪨🪨🪨🪨🪨🪨stance towards left just like a thin rope erodes 🌊🌊🌊a big bulky rock And that was...... Coming into contact with J. SAI DEEPAK ( Indie wing, SC advocate) ⚖⚖⚖ ANANDA RANGANATHAN ( atheist ) Vikram Sampant 😇😇( historian )🥸🥸 And many other U tubers and individuals Now you could see where my Indie wing stand has came I started to discover flaws in left wing slo lo low low low ly 🎶 that I ditched them ( ya but I didn't shifted to right wing because of the reasons I already mentioned which are the same like yours ) These guys always talked with facts . Mam you may also check out their interviews, debates vand books While Anand sir uses harsh words some words are so heavy I don't even understand some words are abusive too But he justify his emotions through facts ( not a huge fan of him due to his frustration) but ya😇😇😇 Vikram 😇😇😇sir is so calm and at peace Deepak sir being an SC advocate cut through my rock like stance for left with his sharp facts🪨🪨🪨🌊🌊 All I learnt from them is what the history is being taught to us is not completely wrong but ya highly distorted Our history books doesn't take into account the real masscare and cruelty Our sweet country went through in medieval times and even in modern times, the many unsung heroes of medieval and modern times.🤺🤺🤺🤺🙈🙉🙊🙈🙉🙊🙈🙉🙊 How caste system wasn't a thing based on birth , how our society was primarily matriarchal , how our society is highly liberal , plural and democratic in its core values How the irregularities and misconceptions in today's society is due to the destruction of their place of learnings and not because it was already like this How the leaders which we think were liberals were not actually like that but a complete reverse 🤡🤡🤡 I may be wrong Or I may be right Let the discussion go on which you started with your question at the last 😁😁😁🤔🤔🤔☺☺☺

BJP gained vote share with rural poor, rural women and urban youth. Their national share hardly took a dent. The gains made in Orissa look irreversible for the near future. The overall electoral results might be some sort of respite. But as a student of politics, I don’t feel or see any sense of long term joy. In fact, this overtly joyous celebration by left wing social media, especially the adulation for Rahul Gandhi - who is not a street fighter, despite what you make of his BJY - makes me fear that this is going to be short lived.

Sweat is not a visual problem, it's problem is of odor, and fortunately it can't be experienced virtually.

@@CinemawaliI know a film reviewer named Aritra from Kolkata who often reviews films being sweaty, but he doesn't mention of that. May be it's a problem of his masculinity 😛

You are right Modi did this time went too below the belt in his speeches and RG has always been a likeable guy the problem with him is he doesnt have any experience of administration, he has been an MP of Amethi for 15 years what has done for us, Rajivji tried to bring factories to Amethi even though much didn't happen of it but atleast there was an effort i dont understand RGs economic beliefs but its certainly not liberal he is too much to the socialist side and his belief of not interfering where there is a certain need of jobs and production to ramp he just not talking about it.Even in the latest manifesto jobs generation is mentioned but practically how is missing without burdening government institutions. He is still not a character i would want for a PMs post eventhough i will support INC it has to remove this guy he just cant control an institution because many prominent people came from his family, he has to leave.

R Gandhi brought more feminine qualities forward and so a more balanced manifestation of a strong being. India needs to see more of this. Enough with spy agent violent movies. They don’t have to be underdogs necessarily. The world thinks of India is jingoistic and muscular and it’s a turn off. Never liked RRR. Read Covenant of Water to feel male and female sentiments on a deep level.

"Animal" doesn't deserve all the flak it gets for being "toxic". The protagonist in the movie is the arguably the most pathetic character in recent Bollywood history. And it couldn't not have been by design!

While I agree with everything in this video, I have only one disagreement with the simplistic reading of Kantara and putting it in the category of hyper masculinity films. Shiva's character is based on a bahujan south Indian idea of a god. This should not be confused with the north Indian upper caste idea of a god. The former is as flawed as most humans while the latter is supposed to be like Rama of Ramcharitmanas - flawless in every way. In the story itself Shiva is painted as a bit of a fool and a little crude but needs to come out of this stage to become a hero worthy of being inhabited by a god.

I understand that but that still doesn't justify the fact that woman just falls for a man who molests her. This is a very common trope in a LOT of films from all over the country. I know most people don't consider that a problem or even problematic, but it is the woman on the street who continues to face molestation at the hands of men who watch 'heroes' get away with this on screen and believe that it their birthright to treat women as objects to be played with. That is why the Bahujan woman often suffers a lot more than the Bahujan man.

I understand where you're coming from. That's why I mentioned that there should be something lacking in the hero. Technically, in both films, the heroes seem invincible. I haven't watched KGF but in RRR, all they lack is direction. Anyway, that's not a problem on its own. My issue is with everyone winning every fight with brute force instead of ideas, ideology or skill like in Maidaan, Lagaan or even a comedy like Crew.

@@Cinemawali But they both are action movies , so they have to go with action or brute force they have to show the spectacle also . If it's a politcal drama or satirical movies thn this argument is right . And i don't think majority of the indian audience like that kind internal conflict movies , they want mass masala .

@@Cinemawali rrr is a different type of movie all together. It was marketed as just an action film, NOT A HISTORICAL FILM, and that's all it was. Not every film has to make it a point to discuss ideologies and politics and whatnot. Some films are for entertainment, just for the fun of it. It is an action film, for action lovers. Maybe it's not your thing and that's okay but everything doesn't have to yk

Rahul chose to be a hero like protagonists in Pad man or Toilet a love story or Majhi The mountain man... A common man trying his level best to resolve a day-to-day problem... Yet it's a man who leads others to the solution... Definitely not a hyper but milder version of masculinity...
