Yeah, I remember first hearing of them in 2001 through Kerrang magazine and then got to see them a year later when I was 18 when Ozzfest happened at Donington (it was either catch Otep on te second stage or stick around the main stage for Lostprophets and Millencolin). Their set blew me away, walked out of that building an instant fan.

I really respect Tatiana because its not easy express/think/write in a language that isn't your native, if you read or pay attention to jinjer's lyrics you'll see they are deep and serious and practically poetical. so even though she's not having a really healthy singing/screaming rutine, she's taking everything serious. So I really admire them in general as musicans. And not to say I'm a big fan haha

I understand her point about knowing it's a woman screaming because of the high-pitched undertone. I try my best to sing as deep as possible and I really want to learn deathcore vocals. I love Tati's vocals and I love screaming along to Jinjer's songs, it's so inspirational!
@junkyardwillie8320
@junkyardwillie8320 4 жыл бұрын
I don’t know, I actually kind of like the high overtones and higher pitch. Are used to dislike the sound of female screaming vocals, which I used to get a lot of crap for. You can’t deny biology, and the female voice is just different than a male’s, and the screams are usually different because of it. Lately however, it’s really been growing on me. The vocalist for this band, Courtney from Spirit box, there’s another woman who puts up covers on KZbin and I think has her own band but now I’m not remembering her name... I also love higher pitch screams in general, and many women can pull them off very well. I’m a guy with a lower voice, so higher screams for me are a bit difficult and I’m not a fan of the way mine sound. But your voice is unique to you, and that’s what’s special about it. I’m still getting comfortable with mine, but if you don’t have the sound you want it’s not the end of the world. It’s important not to try to force the sound that you simply cannot make, while also important to maybe try practicing the implementation of SAFE techniques that help you to sound the way you want. Other people usually end up liking your voice more than you do. You just have to get comfortable with it
@junkyardwillie8320
@junkyardwillie8320 4 жыл бұрын
It’s also important to learn to work with what you have. If you can’t achieve the exact sound you’re looking for, I bet you could still make something that sounds great with your own unique style and voice

Tatiana, I love your authenticity! You seem like a real person, rather than most celebrities who feel they have to maintain some image, you are just you doing what you like to do, it's so refreshing! What you said about the right amount of practice, it's true of anything, even exercise, there is a benefit to long practice sessions over shorter sessions that add up to more time, but short practices are necessary sometimes to stay in touch with your form without needing to push all the time, and either way you need down time to rest. You can practice too much, and you can rest too much. Finding that balanced zone is the key to mastering anything, whether you are learning fundamentals or exploring new techniques. Thank you so much for sharing with us.

Okay now I cant think of what I want to listen to. Fine, Lamb of God youtube mix that starts with a suggested song." This quickly turned in to "Okay sick intro riffs"..bass guitar rattling my chest. Vocals kick in "okay, bit of Otep, I like this" Each section of the song progressively had my mouth dropping open in shock as the song...just....kept...going! If she's having issues struggling keeping up vocally,i really think she should take to a vocal trainer specifically for her type of vocals. Or two separate vocal coaches, one for cleans, one for extreme. She would benefit a lot from warmups and a better understanding of her own ability and technique. Her tones are fantastic, imagine 6 months with a vocal coach would make her way more potent and comfortable.

Horlivka, 2005,Tanya is yelling at the passing by cars..)) lol)) I have a picture before my eyes how that vocal practice could easily turned into a running practice, to avoid your @ss getting kicked right there on the spot)) Tati,you are awesome, love and all the respect!! This interview is amazing! Congratulations on your new home, you deserve to finally have your own corner and finally fill home! I know you still probably miss your native town, I do too) we all do.. Ребята, вы лучшие и самые потрясающие! Гордимся! Ждем возвращения в Торонто)

Excellent interview!!!! She's amazing!!!! It's such a great sigh of relief to hear someone as talented as her, as well a other musicians, artists etc has gone through and experienced a huge part of what I went through and experienced while learning and perfecting our craft both as a musician and vocalist. Female lead of a metal band here. I look up to Jinjer so much !! My distorted vocals are still shit but like, seeing Tatiana be able to scream like hell really motivates me to get better :>

I suggest a workshop or class with Melissa Cross - you'll learn a few scream types and how to do most of them in a healthy way ... I'm a tarot reader but also professional singer & vocal coach of 20+ years in Munich, so i speak from experience ✌🏽

dude... i saw otep live at the second stage at ozzfest in the early 2000's not knowing who they were and the lead singer belted out her first deep growl and i had to pick my jaw up off the ground, its awesome to hear tatiana's first truly deep female metal growl was the same band

Tatiana, you do a terrific job with your voice! And I like it that you are so critical about that despite doing a great job. That, I think, is the reason for reaching such a quality. And, yes, your lyrics ARE phenomenal! I like that you never sing shitty stuff about some guys you love and who are bad and relationship is difficult: You know that type of lyrics you hear from everybody else! Even your only "love song" isn`t really one and is more critizing the stupidity of wannabe lovers. No, your lyrics are poems with deep meanings, often philosophical. I don`t like the term "death metal" and Jinjer is not in my eyes. Death is about giving up, Jinjer is about standing up, fighting back. So I would name Jinjer a "life metal" band! Keep on doing whatever you like, I think it will be phenomenal anyway! 🙂 🤘
