Thanks to the internet we have the modern day equivalent of Hendrix picking up a guitar and teaching you how to play Purple Haze from his couch at home. It's incredible that John Mayer takes the time to share his knowledge. Also ravioli shoes.

Why do there always have to be people who hate and have a desire to throw nasty jabs at people? Is it their need to make them appear better than the people out there making a true living at their art? It's an inferior complex that is easy to see but it always makes enjoyable reading seem abrasive and so unnecessary. I always think about one of the principles of communication. If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything. Just scroll on

Send to me JM gets a very low upside for all of the guitar advice he puts out. I think he does it to help increase the amount of music out there. He wants more players making more good music. I could be wrong, but if I'm not, that is a really cool legacy he leaves. Lots of guitarists, he influenced, a few of which end up making some really good music. Yes I know some of this is done to sell guitars, and he does that well. But I believe he wants more good music. I'll stand on that business.

I do this little jam on "Breezin" by George Benson. It's a combo of 10th+ position major and minor 3rds with open and fretted bass notes in the main theme. That shows the dynamic range and the balance between the open and fretted notes. When played separately and strummed together at low to medium volume. Then the secondary theme adds pick rakes and bends on the higher strings showing the dynamic range with hard picking and vibrato. I used to use it with my band as a sound check jam and it works great for testing out acoustic and electric guitars as well as amps. And it never pisses people off 😂

I never understood this guy and his rise to fame when I was younger. I think I get it now though, I mean literally no interest in Mayer, but this lick was sweet, so I just watched his Wild Blue performance on the Late Show and dang, what a sweet song.
