Theory: Kaido has been waiting for joy boy as well. He may have thought that Ace was joy boy, but now it’s clear that he was hoping Luffy was with his statement after the first time he thought he’d killed him. “You couldn’t be joy boy either.” This, along with his tyrannical statement after the SECOND time he’d thought he killed Luffy, makes me think that Kaido has given up hope of Joy boy changing the world. He wants to bring the world and himself true freedom by destroying the world government, but he doesn’t care about how he gets there. Although he came back stronger, they didn't push him to the point of awakening. Kaido knocked him out, temporarily killed him, he awakens, and became Joyboy and thus will change the world. After watching this video, I think one of the reasons Kaido wanted to join the Marineford war was because there are many strong characters involved in the war who could possibly cause his death, which he thinks needed to awaken himself as Joy Boy. And Shanks probably told Kaido that he believes Luffy is the potential Joy Boy which convinced Kaido to not join the war. Hence, Kaido saying 'Seems like you couldn't be Joy Boy either' after knocking down Luffy. Just a personal thought of mine.

CROSS ANIME SPOILER IN THE REPLIES :/ I think all the yonko have their own conviction, their own "answer", on how to change the world and what the world will be like after it's done. Just like Rayleigh told them in Sabaody, conveniently before they went to the New World, they should take the time to see the world, and then maybe they will come to a different "answer" than Roger and Rayleigh did. Basically, Rayleigh didn't want to force Luffy to adopt his and Roger's will. Though I do think they are very closely aligned, and will remain so at the end of the story. And all of these answers to the conundrum of what an ideal world looks like was first adopted with good intentions, perhaps apart from Blackbeard, but we will see. However, they became corrupted over time. I think even Shanks is sitting on the wrong answer, but not because his dream is not closely aligned with Luffy's, but because he did what he thought was right while waiting for Joyboy to return, and that involved making deals with the hateful world government.

Another one is based on the Okinawan tree spirits of kijimuna, who look like mischievous little kids with bright red hair and live up in trees, sometimes in mangroves. I think Kaido knows Luffy has a chance to come back as Joy Boy now he took the full force of his hit. Imo that's what his "Do you know what you've done?!?" to CP0 was referring to. His whole "Ive won, Luffy is dead" schtick is an act of his to get the Allies to give up before Luffy has a chance to come back/change/whatever. My thinking is that even if Luffy had of taken the hit naturally, he was still on guard and braced so he wouldn't reach the near/actual death experience needed. Kaido, knowing he needs to just "let the hit happen" for the possible awakening of Joy Boy, has already realised that Luffy would never do that of his own volition. "So you couldn't become Joy Boy either". Simply letting it happen would make sense in regards to Kaido attempting suicide over and over, otherwise just go fight Sakazuki or raid Mariejoa or something. You have to be willing to lose in order to win, which is why nobody has managed since Joyboy and/or Nika. The people with the potential are too driven to succeed. Now however Luffy has artificially been placed into the perfect conditions for Joyboy to emerge. As an aside, a weird juxtaposition is that if Kaido knows what it takes to become Joyboy then it cant have anything to do with Luffys DF, otherwise he'd know its impossible for him. (Which begs the question as to is this actually Luffy or the Spirit of the OG Joyboy? Its the Fire Festival after all). If Kaido does in fact know this, why was he trying to kill himself? Because he couldn't be it? That doesn't feel right with his character nor does it match his actions. Id be more inclined to believe Kaido has very intentionally set himself up as a bad guy, knowing the importance of Wano in regards to Joyboy and knowing that its there that he will return. Hes not a bad guy, but hes turned Wano into the Crucible he believes it needs to be to "summon" Joyboy, whoever that ends up being. Hes trying to kill himself because every now and again his conscience gets the better of him and he gets super depressed about what hes done to people. Its the ultimate "Greater Good". Sacrifice an entire island for multiple generations in order to summon the one who will save the entire world.

I've always thought this as well. Ever since Kaido said "So you couldn't be Joyboy either..." I've thought exactly this. He's always wanted to die, to meet a glorious death in battle. A death that would change the world. But with that line, it begs the question, what does he know about Joyboy? What did Rocks know? Maybe he was trying to unlock the awakening of Joyboy through his own death or the death of someone else. I'm a subscriber to the theory that the way Shanks was able to stop Kaido from going to Marineford was by telling him that Ace isn't Joyboy, and that Joyboy will arrive at Wano. This would definitely make Kaido hunker down at Wano, awaiting the arrival of Joyboy. There are many reasons as to why Kaido and Shanks would even consider Ace being Joyboy, but I won't go into that or else this comment would end up an essay lol. I really think we're getting a Kaido flashback very soon. I can't wait

Corruption has made him rebel against his kings: Oden, Momo, and Joyboy. Kaidou's redemption is him sacrificing himself for his King and kingdom. He will acknowledge Luffy and Momo as worthy successors of the Will of Joyboy. Kaido will earn his "D" and die KaiDo, the legendary king of the koi who scaled the waterfall to heaven and was rewarded by becoming a dragon.

I really love the last part of your video, the one about Kaido having a honorable death to be remembered against the marines / world government after 1) luffy / joy boy wins but does not kill him and 2) he realizes that luffy is joyboy and as you said he takes off his mask and confess that he was trying to bring joy boy after all this time. I feel like I have to constantly point this out to one piece youtubers but Momo does *NOT* have a "perfect replica of Kaido's devil fruit". CP0 explicitly said that Vegapunk's artificial devil fruit was made with Kaido's lineage factor (meaning that the fruit basically is the Hito Hito no Mi model Kaido, not the Uo Uo no Mi model Seiryu). It basically goes; Kaido eats the mythical fish fish fruit and his dna code is forever changed to include the dragon segments -> Vegapunk makes a devil fruit based on Kaido -> Momo eats the fruit and can transform into a dragon since that's part of the genetic sequence transferred into the fruit.

Kaido getting his wish and dying, Kaido flashback with Yamato/Kaido making amends before the decision if Yamato stays in Wano or joins the crew. Before finally Wano arc ends. So recently there has been a lot of KZbin videos telling that how luffy is sun and zoro is moon. So I have this crazy theory that Imu-sama and zoro might be similar to each just like luffy and joy boy and the both them even use swords. And if joy boy who was the sun during the void century imu-sama should be the moon. because of this I think zoro and imu should be the first mate of both luffy and joy boy and throughout the series we have been seeing that the power level of both luffy and zoro is very close to each other. It might have been easy for Imu-sama to defeat joy boy after betraying and mortally wounding him.

My theory is that Kaido knows, from long ago, he isn't Joyboy. And the only way to bring Joyboy into the world, he thinks, is to bring misery to people to motivate heroism and things like that. It remembers me of Gabriel from Constantine. Wicked and twisted, but it makes sense, specially from characters that believe most humans are weak and petty af. Whatever, just read the manga minutes ago (leaked), and I'm earger to see all the discussion and debate the next chapters will bring into the One Piece community. Oh man this gonna be goooood.

Kaido still kinda changed the world. He was the one to kill luffy to turn him into joy boy. Kaido will be the reason that joy boy had returned. It would be the uplifting moment your looking for imo. I believe in the story at some point he new he wouldn't become joy boy. Hence the killing of people to find joy boy.

My friend, there are things I noticed by returning to the anime over and over again that you can relate to your knowledge... 1- When Rayleigh and Luffy went to the training island, Rayleigh mentioned two important things. The first is that there is a giant tree that is feared by the creatures of the island and you cannot approach it; The second is that on that island there was a people with a civilization! 2- On the island of Alabasta, when Zorro and Luffy fell underground in the middle of the desert, Zorro found a historical bungalow, and it is not the important one, but near that bunkleyf there were the ruins of an ancient city covered with sand, and the general shape of the ruins is very similar to the ruins of Madinik Chandora

I think that haki and devil fruit awakening is related to becoming joyboy. Because when Rayleigh trains luffy he says that the haki blooms in the heat of battle. So if we go by this theory kaido must want an near death battle so that he can get to that level of haki and become joy boy.

Imagine if Oda makes Kaido the ultimate hero that sacrificed his dreams,his crew,his beloved but most importantly sacrificing himself so somebody with the freedom will that only somebody with an immense amount of will will be able to awaken the joyboy (stronger will=stronger haki). Kaidos will was sooo strong that he was almost unkillable. As he had thought joy boy is the one with the strongest will who will liberate the world. After realising he is not joy boy he started searching and became the bad guy to attract the person that has enough will to opose his own (lmfao 100% absolute bullshit but i just wanted to throw my thoughts 🤣)

Be crazy if Kaido See's JoyBoy and starts to see the error in his ways. Him and Luffy/JoyBoy have some dialogue while they are fighting and we get Kaido's flashbacks. Would be cool if Kaido survives this and See's that his original passion of changing the world is with Luffy and decides to change and become a better person. Or JoyBoy completely decimates Kaido and we don't get what was said above. Kaido gets his honorable death and we move on with the story. Kaido could be so much more than just a boss for Luffy to defeat. Would love a Kaidon redemption type story finding a cure fore the smile stuff and possibly be apart of the strawhat alliance. Imagine shanks reaction to that, Luffy being a true Pirate King and uniting instead of killing.

I feel joy-boy has parallels with Jesus and Cyrus the great. A person who wants to bring freedom to people while taking the burden. Cyrus was famous for allowing people to be what they want under his empire, which kept his empire united through cultural unity being Persian citizens and diversity for their religion and race. Jesus parallels of dying and resurrects to be the scapegoat of man’s sin. Scapegoat being a sacrificial goat to purge a tribe’s sins and releasing another to cleanse the sins of the tribe in Jewish tradition. They are also both protectors of their people and wish for prosperity. I believe Oda took inspiration from many religious and real figures to mold an identity of what joy boy stands for. Even christians claim Jesus will return when the time comes, much like many in one piece for joy boy.

It could be true, I don’t remember when did luffy, ace and sabo became brothers. But if it is because the fruit already knew that luffy, sabo and Ace’s fate is gonna mingled together. So the fruit gave to the nearest person who shared Ace’s brotherly fate. Luffy was really near to the fruit even more so than Ace. So luffy ate it.

I think shanks was looking for ace in the east blue but when luffy ate the fruit and said “the same thing that roger said” he then came to the understanding that luffy was the one fated to bring about the dawn which is why he gave luffy the straw hat

Right, it’s almost like Luffys personality was changed to be more and more magnetic the closer he got to awakening, the joyful nature and the liberation he’s been undertaking has been a subconscious thing that the fruit is causing and it would’ve done so to anyone who ate it. Because he ate the fruit at such a young age no one would have noticed personality change and any difference could’ve been chalked up to growing up.

As of now I see 4 possible outcomes for Kaido’s fate. 1) Kaido dies at the hands of Luffy (aka JoyBoy) he finally achieves death, and he is happy that JoyBoy is the one to do it. 2) Blackbeard is lurking around, and after Luffy severly weakens him he will die at the hands of BB and have his devil fruit stolen by him. Thus giving Blackbeard his 3rd devil fruit 1 of each type. 3) What you mentioned in the video Kaido accepts Luffy aw JoyBoy and as a way of showing respect and redeeming himself he will stop a potential Marine buster call so everyone can stay safe, but at the same time sacrificing himself. 4) Kaido has probably always known that Joy Boy would come to Wano, and now that he has returned he will leave Wano willingly. This also leads me to believe that in the final war Luffy will not only show up with his yonko level crew, but his grand fleet, the revolutionary army, Red Hair pirates after defeating them in a davy back fight in Elbaf, Marco and remaining WB pirates, IF big mom is dead Katakuri will lead Bm pirates to aid Luffy as well, and since Kaido respects Luffy now he will aid Luffy with the beast pirates. So tldr the WG is done for.

Luffy's DF has a mind on its own, thus picking the right person to become joyboy. I believe roger ask his crew to look for the candidate, Shanks will look and give the hat, crocus is the gate keeper in the grand line, and rayleigh to train the haki and gatekeeper of new world. I also think, Gaban will be present in new world to aid luffy on controlling his new DF power.

SPOILER ALERT 1.Kaido wanted to die because only after dying can you become joyboy 2. The world government and Kaido were/are interested in the smile fruit inorder to replicate the Hito Hito no Mi Nika version (hence the it ensures that only zoan fruits can be replicated as a smile fruit) 3. The previous joyboy was Rocks , his hair maybe a sign of him being joyboy, he passed on the information to Kaido

Dude, I've had this sneaking suspicion for a long time now, like a couple years, that luffy would end up having at least one of the emperor's on his side, specifically kaido, but I could see it with big mom, too. I couldn't put it together in a way that made sense, so I just left it alone. But wys about kaido sacrificing himself and everything you said to build up to that makes sense. It hit that spot. This new development was the answer I've been looking for
