Katherine Heigl became one of television's most familiar faces when she starred in the hit show Grey’s Anatomy from 2005 to 2010.
Her character Dr. Izzie Stevens was a fan favorite and Heigl managed to translate her comedic talents on the show to the big screen, starring in hit rom-coms like Knocked Up, 27 Dresses, and The Ugly Truth.
But how did Katherine Heigl go from a beloved comedy actress to becoming hated in Hollywood? That was a huge shift for an actress who was a box-office darling at one point in her career. We've got the details right here.

@@fredrickcantwell6890 factually incorrect, MOST of Taylor's songs aren't even about men. But nice try. And the point of the quote wasn't for the background of any female star, it's that there are double standards in multiple industries in today's world. Katherine's comments weren't even that bad, while if a man cussed out producers, directors and recording companies, no one would think about blackballing him.

exactly. remember when Charlie Sheen bashed his writers and didn't get fired and totally wasn't forced to do another sitcom? Why are men just allowed to speak however they want to their bosses but not women? That female writer on Grey's Anatomy is obviously just a sexist. Women should be allowed to say and do anything with zero consequences. Consequences are sexist.

I'm gonna be 100% honest and say I don't think Katherine Heigl is that bad. She may be insensitive and blunt with her phrasing, but she has strong opinions and is honest about them. She's candid about her own mistakes as well, which is pretty brave. I also think a lot of the things she's said are right (especially regarding Knocked Up's sexism). Her ego may need to be knocked down a peg or two but her reputation didn't deserve to crash the way it did. God forbid a beautiful woman has a mind of her own.

She didn't even say that Grey's was bad, or her part was bad that season - just that it felt like other actresses/parts were more deserving that year. Sure, maybe it could have been better worded to make 100% clear that was her point, but that alone shouldn't have become the circus it did. The trouble is so much of the media these days profits/survives on shock and drama, so they play this crap up as more than it is to whip up more interest and create bigger/ongoing stories/get themselves exclusive headlines -I bet there was a 'Shonda speaks out' piece about it that just kicked it all up

*Well she's far to be getting Gibson or weinstein-type of hate actually!* ;) She just got pushed on the side of this business cause she wasn't very grateful with her coworkers. People making millions who complain yet keep re-signing every year to keep getting new villas are often dismissed by folks. They'll say 'If it's so hard give your place to someone else or stay, don't complain + own the fact you chose money". Also when you don't play the award games you refuse to your show a change to get more credibility and exposition. That's letting the show team down. Same thing with the movie she deemed sexist after getting the money. She knew the story and dialogues yet took the money then pretended to defend women by dissing the project her and her ex workmates worked on...

Lorrie: I would totally agree with you if not for the clear lack of power Hollywood actresses have. An up-and-coming starlet doesn't always have the power to speak her mind or request changes to her directors for fear of being labeled difficult, especially in male-dominated comedies like Judd Apatow's. There's a possibility Heigl was just scared and speaking up for herself. And we've seen SO many movie stars act embarrassed about their breakout roles or act above them, or publicly express regret over participating in certain projects. Heigl sure isn't the only one. However, I do think her declining her Emmy nomination was a bit tone-deaf lol. It didn't really make sense.

@@claudemakelele2856 In season 4, Katherine simply didn't enter the Emmy race. She quietly didn't submit. The submission is not obligatory from the actors. A journalist noticed the list and that her name was missing and he made it a big deal and then Katherine gave the most typical response that an actor can give. That her material in that specific season-an affair with a married man- didn't warrant a submission. She never used the word worthy. And then she complimented her colleagues for having a better material. Chandra Wilson publicly defended Katherine for this by saying that she didn't understand why it became an issue in the first place since there were years that she didn't partcipate the race either because of the lack of appropriate material and Krista Vernoff also publicly defended Katherine by saying that she only got a rap because she was a woman and not a man. And Shonda Rhimes who was covering Isaiah Washington, is known for her feuds with her employees. She literally got rid of Derek's character because she disliked Patrick Dempsey and she had issues with T.R. Knight and Sara Ramirez as well. Sara Ramirez literally left in season 12, Katherine was not even there, by criticizing them about their bad environment. So if anyone is difficult, it's Rhimes. Her writing skills are highly overrated and she acts like Marlon Brando in The Godfather. Yet Katherine still gets critisised for something that happened 10 years ago and Shonda gets away scot free. What a joke. And when it comes to Knocked Up, she replied to one question with honesty after the journalist told her that many women found the movie antifeminist and in the end Katherine said that it was just a comedy that exaggerated the stereotypes but Seth Rogen and Judd Apatow didn't open their mouth when their closed assistant, Mike White called it the movie of the b@#$% and Seth Rogen was also covering his bestie James Franco. Have you any idea what he did???????!!!!!!!!! And funny how the crew from Grey's said that Katherine was one of the nicest people and one of their favorites behind the scenes and funny how the Grey's directors praised Heigl for her professionalism. All of her colleagues, in all these years that Katherine is active, all said the same thing, that she's super professional, really funny and awesome to work with and in every set she is in, she makes friends for a lifetime. Justin Chambers is one of them. Jeffrey Dean Morgan is another. And Katherine steadily works all these years, her net worth is way bigger than most of all the actors on Grey's, she was a top player on Suits and right now she is thriving on Netflix by having in her back a best-selling author who keeps praising her all the time. And right now Katherine is out there and she is thriving with her multiple talents, while others are staying stale on the same job for 18 years because they need Shonda to live and because without Grey's they can not do anything else. And by the way, Katherine's Firefly Lane was the first show that dethroned Shonda's Bridgerton from the top. Her career is perfectly fine. And in a Hollywood full of Harvey Weinstein and Seth Rogen and James Franco and Shonda Rhimes, I always found it hilarious how there are people who actually believe that honest women like Heigl are a problem in any way. Next time do better

Also, I was just watching Knocked Up and that's how I ended up here. If what she was saying was true, it would still be untasteful because she read the script beforehand and agreed to star in the movie which made her a LOT of money, so it's kinda petty to say that afterwards, when she could have simply declined the part. But the thing is, the men are portrayed as absolutely dumb and useless in this movie, while the women are portrayed as intelligent and responsible. Yes, her character can be a b**ch sometimes, but that doesn't make it sexist since the men are portrayed as absurdly flawed individuals. This fact makes her statement even worse. I mean, I agree with her on the Knocked Up bit. It's just that with Grey's Anatomy, it was her launch pad, and she did get an interesting character. If she felt like a better role was warranted, she could've talked to someone on set instead of airing dirty laundry in public, is all. I just think she should pay more heed to her projects going forward - just don't say yes to something with a sexist script

My point being - not everything is related to feminism here. I do hope she makes a comeback; nothing she was beyond irredeemable, and actors have certainly been back from worse

But still what she said about Grey's Anatomy wasn't enough to be hated or disgraced. She simply stated that she did not think that she was deserving enough to be given the Emmy. I do agree on what you are saying about talking to the producer or someone on set though.

I love her as an actress and I will always support someone who doesn't sugar coat the truth. I think Hollywood and, especially Shonda, should learn to hear the truth and to listen to straightforward people. Basically, Katherine Heigl is not an ass kisser and that's a problem for people with big egos like Shonda. Down to earth people appreciate honesty!

She should have had a "sit down" with the producer of the show to express her concerns, not whine about her dissatisfaction publicly. Regarding the movie that she said put women in a bad light, she had a script, she knew what it was all about. All she had to do, was not do the movie.

When JLaw is opinionated people love it. When Heigle is, everyone hates it. There have been men publicly slamming a past project without this whiplash. I think the problem is that she didn't connect well enough with cast and crew for her criticism to be balanced by being otherwise well liked as a person (not just as an actress)

Katherine Heigl has been blacklisted for messing with people’s money. If you involve yourself in a project that people have invested millions of dollars in you have an obligation to tow the company line. Heigl thought she could say whatever she wants without consequences. She was only half right: you can say whatever you like, but there are always consequences.

Katherine, I don't think it is a matter of not pretending or pretending to be someone else, but simply a matter of knowing when to be outspoken and when to zip it. As I am now in my middle ages my wisdom seems to be a given lately. I was always the one who spoke what was on her mind. But now I realize sometimes that thinking 'things' with a twinkle in my eye is enough to get my point across.

This recklessness definitely fades with age, but she certainly should've known better. That said, I can't find too much fault in her actions with the worst of it only being that she's being public about it. I feel that the push against her career from higher ups, especially Grey's Anatomy's show-runner, was a bit excessive.

The problem as I see it is, while KH is a talented actress, Grey's brought the best out of her, and she didnt appreciate it. She thought it was her. Her knocked up comment didnt make her believable in any romcom that came after. But obviously you cannot ruin relationships in Hollywood on set!what?Even Bruce Willis eventually paid for that.

I’ve been in show business all my life and in theater since grade school, and Katherine is a tremendous actress, much better than anyone she’s played opposite of or writers, directors or producers. If they can’t put up with her, it’s from pure jealousy. I also like Drew Barrymore, it’s in her blood. I grew up with three Channel black and white TV, and just a few impress me, Al Pacino of course.
