This is assuming that Kyubey is telling the truth, in which it can be proven that he can through him telling Madoka that "he doesn't know if Sayaka can be turned back into a human from being a witch", while telling Homura it's impossible later. Also, the movie kinda expands on how much of a monster Kyubey can be, as they try to alter the rules of the universe in order to exploit Madoka for whatever scheme they have, not asking for Madoka's "consent" in the matter, as they express they always do. They also show an expressed fear of Homura once she goes "Devil Mode", and try to escape when trying to collect energy becomes too hard for them. They also don't seem to like it when they are put into the shoes of the magical girls, and have to bare the brunt of every curse on earth. So yeah, it really feels like Kyubey's motives are more self serving than they let on, and they do understand the concepts of suffering, fear, and "tricking" other, despite what they claim. Being emotionless and completely logical is just a presentation to act as a counterargument against creatures they see as beneath them.

Kyubey does a number of things beyond "what is necessary". He literally says the energy from the girls is ONE of the best resources. That literally means there are other ways to fuel the universe besides what he's doing, he just chooses not to. This is different from predators feeding on prey, who DO need them to survive, and in the case of humans, they kill animals humanly, while the girls suffer greatly. Kyubey also makes the excuse of how the consequences of the girls becoming magical girls means they eventually become witches by saying "Why didn't you ask?" Like who will ever make that jump in logic to ask? That's like giving a little kid a bomb and telling them that the timer counting down is a clock, which technically it is, and when the bomb goes off, the dying kid asks why you didn't tell them it was a bomb and you respond with, "Why didn't you ask?" And the final nail in the coffin, Kyubey doesn't just offer, he coerces and takes advantage of and manipulates. How many times did Madoka turn him down, only for him to repeatedly come back when she's in distress or in danger or emotionally vulnerable and try to coerce, even emotionally blackmail her, into accepting a deal from him? So he's not just placing a deal on the table and giving them the choice whether to accept or not, he's intentionally being forceful and deceptive. These things are what push him out of the morally gray area and into true villainy, because he has ways to fuel the universe that wouldn't cause others to suffer, but he willingly chooses not to take them, is deceptive about his actions that allows him to use people, and coerces into forcing these tragic fates on others.
@OthilldeАй бұрын
To be fair we don't know what the other best ways are, they might take up more resources and time than making magical girls does, and so methods of energy collection that are less demanding and that help to (in part) fuel other methods of energy collection are necessary to do, as well. We also don't know that these other methods don't cause suffering, in fact it's despair that seems to be the most potent source of energy. Also, Kyubey pursued Madoka the most because of her huge potential, he wanted to harness all her energy. Plus he follows any girl with potential anyways. Kyubey doesn't tell the girls about the consequences and ramifications of the contract because he doesn't have to, it's not at all logical to sit there and list them all. The only reason we would want them listed is because of our emotions. All Kyubey needs to achieve his goal (universe preservation) is the girl's wish and their resulting energy. He's not thinking about whether or not the contract's effects are fair to them personally or if it'll emotionally affect them or their loved ones. All that Kyubey knows is: 1. Find and follow girl with potential and offer her a wish in exchange for fighting witches (he needs to tell her about fighting witches because she needs to fight them to collect the grief seed and give it to him when it's full). 2. Grant her wish if she makes one, leave if she says no. Come back if she changes her mind. 3. If wish is granted, collect her energy until she dies or becomes a witch. That's the whole of madoka magica from Kyubey's view. All emotions removed. It's our emotions and the character's emotions that make the story so compelling. His actions are scary, but he doesn't remotely understand the emotional weight of what he's doing, he only understands the basic logical outcome. Having said that, the incubators do impressively consider human emotions to the best of their ability; They don't threaten the girls into making a wish. They simply follow the girls with the most potential. Instead of causing a disaster that a girl would desperately wish their way out of, they'll wait for one, like with Mami. It might seem devious to us that they take advantage of desperate situations, but it's because we are emotional. He is simply being logical with no ill intent. Sorry for the novel, lots to explain and consider. 🤍

My theory is that Kyubey and the other incubators are familiars for an immensely powerful witch operating behind the scenes. Their core function is to gather energy, with a specific preference for energy generated by negative emotions. We see this with the grief seeds where once they absorb a certain amount of negative/curse energy the witch in them revives, but the incubators helpfully dispose of them when they’re almost full, and then in the altered timeline when the incubators are gathering the wraith cubes from the girls. While they’re not immortal they’re replaced easily when destroyed, in the same way a witch can generate new familiars, and they are established to have a hive mind, as if some single intelligence is controlling them. This would fit with Madoka being a deconstruction of Sailor Moon, since that series featured enemies looking to harvest energy from humans in order to supply a much more powerful enemy. Madoka seems to invert this by having Kyubey harvest energy in order to hold off entropy, but that also assumes Kyubey is telling the truth in a series that shows repeatedly he’s willing to massage the truth to make it sound more appealing. Then again he could be right from a certain point of view, perhaps this witch is like Madokami and Akuma Homura, a magical girl who overcame the limits of being a magical girl in order to rewrite the rules of the universe and that by continuing to perform whatever function she does the universe keeps existing. If so I expect consequences to the ending of Rebellion.

As like Kyubey, you're also prioritizing your own kinds' survival over those you have no attachment to. Throughout history our survival instincts have never been stable lands of black and white, but raging oceans of gray. As neutral as Kyubey seems to call himself, I feel like he's still hiding real emotions or goals. He has a tendency to say things out of tone, whether it by sinister phrasing, or little "peeks" of emotion through his responses. There are elements that contradict himself. He does say he always asks first, but the problem is he's so persistent it can be seen as a problem, one can argue that it's manipulative to a point where he pressures them until they agree. He also throws consent out the window once rebellion hits and starts poking with homura and madoka both just to get the old system back. The tone of his voice combined with specific phrases also hints at a less neutral attitude, as if he gets enjoyment out of it, this is seen especially at the end of Rebellion and with various interactions with Homura in general, as well as the story behind Nagise before she became the sweets witch. Hell, you can even argue that at the end of Rebellion he learned what fear is, even attempting to bail even after his efforts. Honestly Rebellion is the point where his true colors show a whole. Ultimately, as much as the incubators claim that humanities short term suffering is "not their problem", one could easily say the "heat death of the universe" is not humanities problem. It's also made super vague about how real this is, or how the incubators are the universes sole saviors of this. This could easily be another masked truth, but it's left too ambiguous to really trust. While I don't really agree that Kyubey is as indifferent as they claim, I feel like there's truly not enough known about their goals beyond what we are told. The incubators are also very flawed by having a system that overwrites them, especially with how they don't even have contingency planes for what their wishes could do (rewrite the universe, change time to a point they don't even remember what their own "clients" are capable of). TL:DR, Kyubey is like an Army recruiter for magical girls.

Heat death of the universe. That’s a promise from God that must be fulfilled. For he hates the state of it all.
@RavenVIАй бұрын
@justice8718 The issue is the incubators aren't gods, the only god here is Madoka overwriting them.

If Kyuby is rigth, then why he didn't just make someone wish for the complete energy quote?
@KBWanime2 ай бұрын
The wishes have limits. He can only grant certain wishes. Madoka was a little more of an exception because she had so much magical energy. The other girls couldn't do anything like that.
@LjCast-b6q2 ай бұрын
Because of the restrictions on wishes, although yes, he can alter reality to make a wish happen the level of which you can alter is entirely dependent on the girl and how much potential for good they have, pretty much magical girl had the potential to simply wish away entropy

He may have done nothing wrong but he still screwed up by messing with human emotions. And we all know those are very viotile (especially teens) Also who do you guys think is worse Kyuuby or Shockwave (Transformers Prime) both are only logic
@LjCast-b6q2 ай бұрын
Shockwave, because shockwave doesn’t have a pure goal that has benefit to the large scale, well, Kyuuby at least his end goal and his purpose for doing all of this horrible stuff is a net positive for the universe

Also, Kyubey states that he doesn't even understand what deception is, but that's not true. When Kyouko asked Kyubey if there's a way to bring Sayaka back, Kyubey just answered that he wouldn't know, but that it might be possible for magical girls. However, after Kyouko's fall, when Homura asked him if there really was no way for Kyouko to save Sayaka, he said "Of course not." And when Homura asked him why he didn't stop Kyouko, he answered that it's better to get her out of the picture

If he doesn't know what deception is then he wouldn't understand that what he did was deceptive. I also think both of his statements are true. Saying, I don't know of any way that's possible and then saying it's not possible in another situation still seems consistent to me.

Kyubey is constantly lying. He's goal is always trick girls to die. That is evil.
@LjCast-b6q2 ай бұрын
He never lies once throughout the entire series anytime, someone asks him a question he always tells the truth, he is trying to get girls to sacrifice and die, but in the end it’s a positive and good reason, not evil just logical

To answer the question of letting the universe die? yes he should, so that it can be reborn with a new system. He is in fact prolonging the inevitable death and energy comes from somewhere even these magical girls have a source even if its emotion. Frankly he is lazy at his job.
@MonographicSingleheadedM-sp2wkАй бұрын
it stems from storytelling and how he doesnt understand humanity but how he never fully explains to the what s going on until shet happens is evil imho.
