XIV/Behold has some of the most incredible guitar parts I’ve ever heard

I don't think people enjoy the shredding stuff after hearing everyone do it. I love guitar solos more than anything but in today's world i feel like people tend to make it seem like a competition instead of creativity. I think more people will appreciate Lee's work with BOO because it's not just pure out of this world shred but more groove. Jason writes grooves but goddamn he will then melt your face away with the solos which I guess to me thats excellent but to others who don't appreciate guitar like that is just doodling around making weird noises.

Not Shredding it's Smooth Melody core riff drifts of One Of A 'Kind I believe &Vibes. Some maybe compare that ... 😂

Dude I'm so glad to see someone realized the same thing I did. I was really upset when they kicked him out and everyone started bashing Lee. Born of Osiris has been my favorite band since I heard the New Reign, I've met Lee a few times and he is one of the nicest most down to earth guys I've ever met. I really hope that Lee and the other guys have made amends with Jason. He is an amazing shredder and yeah probably one of the top guitarists out there but neither one of them would be where they are now without going there separate ways. Hell now even Cameron has a solo album which is fucking phenomenal.

Yes, definitely awesome to see how they have all done amazing things on their own. I too hope that they were able to make amends, it would be awesome to see them tour together or something!

Wish they could get along again, same with Ronnie and Monte.

Lee made it melodic, Jason made it gritty. Together it sounded unique and complete which I miss in their solo efforts.

Jason is among petrucci and vai as terms of skill. Lee is still an amazing player and he is part of what make boo what it is today. Modern boo is absolutely amazing and it wouldn't be the same without lee

Jason’s phrasing is very diatonic, there’s not a lot of dynamics in it and he struggles over jazz progressions as far as improv goes so I wouldn’t completely put him above Lee. Lee has way better compositions as far as catchiness goes.

@@cryptedanimations6509In terms of straight up Techniques tho Jason still up there with Steve and John
@tylerhawksmoor96019 ай бұрын
@@cryptedanimations6509 I'm sorry but you're off the mark man. Jason uses a shit ton of chromaticism and a wide variety of different sonorities. Omni, the first track of the first album, opens with a bunch of non diatonic minor chord moves.

Ishimura opens in harmonic minor and when it gets to the hook it’s hirojishi minor with bits of pentatonic minor sprinkled in, then modulates during the verse then hints of harmonic major before going back to the hook. Tendinitis has tons of melodic minor/chromaticism all throughout. He’s light years beyond Lee.

Nothing will ever touch the Discovery. Ive never thought Lee was more then a person in the band because Cameron obviously cant play everything lol. I was a huge fan of the band forever, but none of their stuff after the discovery hits for me. Id rather listen to Camerons solo project then boo now.
@Fict10n10 ай бұрын
100% the exact same feeling for me. The Discovery was the most incredible album I've heard at the time, and since then absolutely nothing from BOO has come anywhere close to that.

Exist was the only song lee wrote on a higher place I recall hearing that discussion when I was around them during that era

I’m glad I came across this video since I’m going to be ranking the BOO discography on my channel here in the next week. I’ve been listening to them since The New Reign and have found value in all their work. As someone who’s also played guitar a long time, I wouldn’t want to be forcibly compared to someone like Richardson, who’s just a god-tier lead player. Lee has his own strengths and has really become a well rounded player I’d aspire to play like as well. BOO is packed with talent, and Lee makes up a significant chunk of it. That being said, Discovery is still their best imo and for many more reasons than Jason, but he did that album a tremendous service. Great video and I’ll be sure to give you a shoutout in mine for the education.

In a interview with Cameron, he states that he wrote and recorded everything on The New Reign and everything on A Higher Place besides Exist. Cameron is an absolute monster when it comes to music, don’t believe me? Check out his solo project Unsolicited, there’s some serious old school BOO vibes. Lee also is an absolute monster too, he had some issues when Jason got the boot but, Lee was able to to play the solos pretty quick. I honestly think that Jason leaving was actually good for Lee, and forced him to grow as a musician.
@Traitors1991 Жыл бұрын
He never escaped Jason’s shadow. Nothing BoO has put out has been on the same technical level or song writing as Jason.

Cameron wrote the majority of a higher place if I remember him telling me back in the day, Lee contributed the song Exist on that release, can’t remember if there were any others

Both iterations of BOO are great. Bur for me i mostly leaning towards Lee era. Lee achieved a pleasant balance between technicality and accessibility. Which is also preferred by a wider audience of metal fans. Technicality is often more appealing to a much smaller audience of listeners who also play guitar them self and in too "that" type of music. Which stays completely opposite for a mainstream metal listeners. I think any commercial band should target the second group.

5:00 yeah, I’m a fan that stopped listening to them after Tomorrow We Die Alive, but those first few albums are masterpieces. New Reign, which is probably the majority of everyone’s favorite album, the rawness of it was Metallica’s Kill’em All like it was kind of grainy sounding and there are just some albums, where it works. Yeah when I saw Lee couldn’t play some of Jason’s parts I kind of was like well I think ish is about to change dramatically. Cam’s solo project, which is so friggin’ mind blowing, is how I got back into them again. I think Cam should’ve taken the guitar spot over and then they should’ve found a new drummer. That way Lee could’ve kept his spot at rhythm and Cam could’ve taken over lead. But I have a sneaking suspicion that Cam likes the drums the most so that’s just the way the cookie crumbles i guess. We all have our reasons for following a band and once Jason left, we saw him do so well in his own solo-ish project with that other well known drummer, Luke Holland. When you go to a show and someone can’t play the songs thatve been written, that’s a pretty bad look in the eyes of a music fan, so the reaction, if understand the human being, was quite warranted atm, but now that I see they’ve remedied this, by getting a guitar player who might be able to? So far the only song I’ve heard that I actually like is White Nile. I guess I need to hear more of Lee’s solo stuff.

2:05 A higher place regarded well? I’ve always heard from most BoO fans that, that album is the worst effort from them.

The elitist / gatekeeping aspect of the community is disgusting. Jason Richardson is a ridiculous act to follow in terms of technical skill, the fact that Lee even tried to deliver that experience live is commendable. There was also quite a bit of controversy around the recording and production of Lee's work, being accused of an ultra clean, record one note at a time, perfectly quantized method, which then led to accusations that he couldn't even play his own material without his production style. It's the same accusations that they were hitting Lucas Mann of Rings Of Saturn with and I think at one point there was some accusations of they taught each other how to "cheat". Such petty crap, haha. Liked the vid, don't think I've heard Infinite Mind so I'm gonna go check that out. Cheers!

Great analysis. Was kinda easy to get sucked into the drama back when this happened. I got the impression they did Jason dirty when they fired him but there's two sides to the story I'm sure. Musically I think both parties are doing well though and I wish them the best.
