12-year Carnivore discusses: What is leptin resistance and how can it be fixed??
I'm not a doctor, nutritionist, or expert. But I LISTENED to a lot of doctors, nutritionists, and experts before making this video. This video contains the take-aways that I heard come up over and over again from multiple sources that I think could help improve someone's leptin sensitivity. Please feel free to share any of your own knowledge or experience about hunger-cues and leptin in the comments below, because I'm always open to learning and changing my opinion. Ultimately, I hope some of these tips will help people to become more intune with their own hunger and satiety signals. It is just as important to not UNDER eat protein and fat as a Carnivore as it is to avoid constantly OVER-eating, so please make sure you are giving your body the meat that it needs in order to thrive.

Eating a "regular diet", I had a hard time feeling satiated. - And, of course, there would always be room for desert. Now, on strict keto/carnivore, I feel full at a snap, and cannot have another bite past that point. Finally, my body is telling me when I've had enough. So thankful for this. (Lost almost 15 kilos in 9 weeks!) * UPDATE: In 20 weeks, I have lost 24 kilos.

I was sent to dentist by my ear nose and throat surgeon for sleep apnoea issues still a problem after surgery. The dentist said how are your sinus s? Because if they are blocked you can't produce nitrous oxide to stimulate leptin production. He said leptin is Greek meaning thin. So if you are a mouth breather you will lack leptin he said. Vitamins b1 double up on to assist your sleep apnoea. And avoid bad environmental conditions like stress, toxic fumes and perfume s. So I moved to the country. Your right about meats. May I add the quality of red meat is important for a physically hard work. If on lesser meats n fish your physical strength suffers, on chicken I can't lift my car trailer onto the toe hitch but on red meat you are like superman easy. Fish n seafood is essential for brain power especially if i need to plan or do a study or test , me its prawns , crayfish ( your lobster no claws) and calamari for the essential faty acids and a bit of fish but they leave you hungry an hour or so later. I hope this helps someone

For mouth breathers (I´m one, great to know the link between sinus problems and leptin) and people with sleep apnea problems, you can resolve some of it by taping your mouth shut when you sleep (with surgical tape, for example). Sounds dumb but it works. Your body automatically starts breathing through the nose even if it´s been stuffed for ages. Clears up straight away. Google is your friend if you want to investigate further.

Wow! This is the first time I ever heard this! I was always a mouth breather, always had issues with breathing, but never realized it until I was older and took a trip to the beach, where the salt water opened my sinuses! I have also always said, I never knew how others could tell when they are full. I never had that feeling. Thank you for putting this here!!

Thank you. I’m struggling and this info has helped. Summer of 2021 I was told by my Dr I’m type 1 Diabetes with A1C at 8.5 . I began Ketogenic Diet with Intermittent Fasting August 29, 2021. Weight at start was 195lbs. 2 months in, A1C 6.4 Weight 180lbs. January 17, 2022 I course corrected to KetoVore. Still 180lbs. February 1st began full Carnivore with Intermittent Fasting. I’m battling diabetic symptoms left and right, drug free. Feet Neuropathy practically gone, eyes improved, right eye I thought blindness was coming, Toe on right foot I almost lost. Everything is hard. Alternative is not an option. I want to be healthy again. I’m almost 65, 22 years still working on my feet all day as a Grocery Store Cashier. Pandemic stress has been ridiculous. I went from a size 18 to size 12. I look like I’ve lost more than 15lbs. Today is February 18, 2022 and I’m still 180lbs. It’s weird. I see my Dr today for new Test results. Still going thru menopause hot flashes. No alcohol or smoking. The adjustments for eating and learning are unending. Found out many coworkers and their family members have Diabetes and are on medications. They have been watching me like a hawk. I believe many people can never change their eating habits as long as this knowledge is not in with mainstream medical Doctors help. My Doctor is shocked and relieved at my results but he’s not willing to learn about Ketogenics or Carnivore. He smiles and says he’s heard of it. That’s all. He gives me the silent treatment. No more talking now. Bye. And he’s off to the next patient. It’s very sad. I’m encouraged by people like you and the followers who are have been where I am now and are always offering real encouragement. I’m needy at times.lol. Thank you, to you, and every Ketogenic and Carnivore person out there. Forward we GO.👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

@@No_Frills_Carnivore I broke through. I was at 170 for a month and now approaching 165 .lbs. eating one to two meals. No snacking in between. 4 eggs, meat;(bacon, ham, sausage, beef-patties, salmon, shrimp, steak, roast beef). No to dairy, cheeses, creams. Zero carbs, except little in eggs. 2nd meal have meat and butter only, as much as you want. Drinks have Bulletproof Coffee, Iced tea, Zevia soda, Tapout drink, warm water with 1 or 2 teaspoons of raw apple cider vinegar and 1 teaspoon of real pure sea salt, iced water with ten drops of Trace Minerals Research liquimins. Do a waterfast one day a week. Drink water with one fresh lemon squeezed in it. Sweetener I use is Whole Earth Sweetener Company, contains Stevia, Monk Fruit, Erythritol a sugar alcohol. I buy the green box of 80 packets. Add to iced tea, lemon water. On you tube the SteakandButterGirl has easy desert pudding-like recipe of steamed eggs. She show how and adds coffee flavor too. Again, NO snacking in between meals. Eat to full at both meals. This pulled me out and I am losing weight again slowly. And slowly is very good and safe. If you get a headache have warm cup of water and sea salt. If you get hungry in between meals have a warm cup of water and raw apple cider vinegar. I use this for 10 months, I rarely ever get a headache. But when I BEGAN Keto w/if I was told about Keto Flu and headaches and what to do, and they were right. I am now KetoVore but moving into Carnivore. I feel great and today I’m 65 years in life. No medicines, no pains, healthy, happy, and very thankful. I thank Almighty GOD for delivering me to all of those helpful, giving, and Warriors who gave me the information, the pep talks, and kind words. Thank you with love and gratitude. 🤙🏾👍🏿👌🏼🤝👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽♥️P.S. I check my BMI at calculator.net. From my beginning I have seen my body go from Obese, to Overweight, to get to 0.6 lbs from aHealthy Weight on BMI Scale. It’s very exciting. With your meals u can eat avocado, olives (garlic stuffed olive are great. These are high in oils fats. Wish you the best Just Debbie.

@@seven4098 Hi @seven and everyone. I truly with all of my heart want to thank you all who gave me good advice and the encouragement to keep going. There were times I was laying crying in bed after work debating whether to call an ambulance because the Neuropathy pains were so bad. Then I would remember reading someone texted me, “stay with it, because it does work.”. I’m very very healthy and happy now, August 5, 2022. In March my Doctor told me, I am no longer Diabetic. All of my Diabetic Symptoms are gone. I did it drug-Free!! The Ketogenic Diet with Intermittent Fasting DOES WORK. Just this July my BMI index is healthy weight for my Height, Age, Female. I began in the Obese Range, then the Overweight Range, Now the Healthy Weight Range. In June I turned 65 yrs of life. July 28th, I Retired from 22 years as a frontEnd Grocery Store Cashier. (Yep, I suffered Neuropathy pains worse every working day). But today I am pain free, thank The GOOD LORD GOD, for leading me through all of this, to the other side. The Better Side. I am very thankful. I’ve been KetoVore for a while. Going into Carnivore. People tell me I look in my 40’s. My energy is up. I began weight lifting to get stronger and increase muscle mass. The Bible says a Promise The GOOD LORD says that my end shall be greater than my beginning, so I’ve Prayed for that Promise many times. During Communion especially. Communion is the meat and drink of the Champions. I think it might be the fountain of Youth-Life. 💦🌈✨🙏😇

Yes, I too have looked in this, ever since I heard about Leptin resistance the first time and when: 'Oh...so that's what's going on'. I became interested in first Keto and then Carnivore primarily because of 'issues' around food. I went through binging/overeating and restriction cycles basically all my adult life, after being a slightly pudgy kid and loosing 30 pounds around age 13/14. I always ate healthy and exercised, was never overweight and don't have serious health issues, but I absolutely hated always having to 'control' myself around food. Carbs were worst of course...but I was somewhat dismayed to realize, that I can overeat even on plain meat or hardboiled eggs. Not to mention dairy/nuts (the worst) and even vegetables/salads. So my tip: if your appetite regulation doesn't work in general (and not just in regards of specific foods), go dairy free carnivore, but be very careful about (intermittent) fasting and trying to restrict calories at all at the beginning. In my personal experience, this kept my body from 'settling down' and finally fixing this issue. For years on keto and even the first months of mostly carnivore! I only stopped to constantly obsess around food and always want 'more', when I allowed myself to eat whenever I wanted and how much I wanted, as long as it was meat, eggs and butter. Kinda like 'intuitive eating' just without any trigger foods. My body just stopped clamoring for food really quickly. This approach had never worked for me on a mixed macros diet or even on keto, mind you. Nor had carnivore, while trying to restrict eating windows or calories. I now sometimes eat right after getting up...sometimes I don't. Sometimes I snack, usually I don't - but because I don't want to anymore, not because I'm forcing my body to not eat, when it wants food. There's finally 'peace in the house' after 30 years of warfare. Didn't gain or loose weight during this process, btw. I have about 10 pounds, I would like to ultimately get rid of, but I'm hoping, that will just happen on it's own with increased activity come spring. For now, I'm just happy and content to not be 'food crazy' anymore. Btw. check out the 'Andrew Huberman' podcast. Top notch and very well presented research straight from a Harvard Professor. Lots of episodes about nutrition and performance, as well 'brain related' issues. Well worth listening to, if one is generally interested in 'how stuff works' in and around the human body.

Thank you for this comment. To clarify, are you saying to try taking out dairy? Any experience with exogenous keytones? (I have one in early morning) I am exactly like you. I would love to hear back, thank you!

@@fatlute12 I had to take out dairy, because I overeat on it. My satiation reflex just doesn't work with cheese - I always want to 'eat the whole thing'. Can't have it in the fridge, without eating late at night and such. And cream just makes me overeat on everything. No matter what it is, if I add cream, I'll eat more, then I otherwise would. Butter seems to be ok, though. It's something one needs to try for oneself, I guess.

Low calorie dieting is the worst thing you could be doing to yourself. "Like my body always want to be FED" There is your problem, low fat diets are high in carbs so these carbs tend to spike your glucose level in the blood, the pancreas senses this and quickly tries to bring the glucose level by releasing insulin in the bloodstream, as clever this system is, it's not 100% accurate so it usually overshoot the insulin which brings the glucose down too low "hyperglycemia" and that point you body craves for more carbs and this happen about every 2 hours if you keep eating carbs.... The food industry know this hence the abundance of processed foods in the market. The carnivore diet will help you but you are probably insulin resistance and you really need to get that reversed.... It's a very long process.... Look into intermittent fasting as an additional tool to reverse insulin resistance and becoming more insulin sensitive. Good luck.

This is such a powerful video thank you!! I've got a history of eating disorders (bulimia in my 20s then lots of bingeing/fasting/comtrolled eating the rest of the time) and I know my leptin/ghrelin hormones are out of sync. I found your video especially insightful for women and women's hormones - I've been back and forth with carnivore for 2 months now and in my mind there's always been a fear of being "too restrictive" (that eating disorder control) even though my body feels better with just animal products and I feel worse with carbs/sugar/processed foods etc (because i just binge on them and feel shit physically) - and I know longterm that zero carbs/sugar/processed "foods" is the way to go because we don't need anything processed. There's that worry for me that I'm being "too restrictive" because of my history with eating disorders but I know deep down that carnivore just makes sense. For women's hormones, they can get so out of sync with all the endless bingeing or restricting or fasting and whilst I've tried to add Intermittent Fasting in before, i actually find it more harmful to myself. thank you again!

YOU NAILED it with this. I'm stuck right there. I DON'T have any LEPTIN at all! I ate all but 2 lbs of steak, one time, and still nibbled on the left overs putting it away. I need to watch "how" much fat content there is at any given time, bc with no gallbladder comes dumping. What a crazy situation. So I will adjust, YET AGAIN, to get my fat be GONE. THANK you for providing your info. This answers YEARS of CONFUSION.💗

Thanks Kelly! I was eating mostly carnivore but using some xylitol in cream cheese and making mince with canned tomatoes and onions. Hearing you speak about the impact of sweet on hunger has made such a difference. I realised, for the first time, that my hunger was due to some error in my body’s hormonal communication and that I could resolve this. It made such a difference to view it this way as opposed to feeling endlessly hungry and self flagellating for perceived lack of control. I am on day 11 of pure carnivore and feeling so much better - feeling full for the first time ever.

Thank you so much for all of this info! I have been carnivore for 2 years now. I've learned I'm better with scotch fillet beef steaks and eggs. I do have histamine issues which prevents me from having processed meats, burger patties etc as well as leftovers. I've also had years of experience with finishing everything on my plate, regardless of portion size (large) and also with fasting. I'm fairly sure I have a certain level of leptin resistance, although not drastic. I'd like to finish eating earlier than I currently do AND not think I'm hungry again for a number of hours. I know I'm a food addict and always will be. I want to train myself to feel satisfied for longer without needing to feel completely full. My body tries to tell me I'm hungry when I'm no longer feeling FULL. I want to be able to go about my day without the constant background mind chatter that's almost constantly focussed on food. I'm at a good weight for my size (53kg, 164cm) and I'm 51yo female. I'd love to reduce my body fat percentage from around 30% to 20%, and improve my muscle tone and have more physical energy and endurance. Histamine reactions give me fatigue and weakness, exercise makes it worse. I'm working on killing off my candida to reduce my histamine response and weakness and therefore enable me to gain strength. I'm going to try these tips in this video to enable me to feel comfortable with smaller portion sizes and sustained satiety. Thank you!

Interesting take on the carnivore binge eating behavior at say a Fogo de Chao buffet. I have felt this intuitively for a while but interesting that I'm not the only one. I can eat my normal daily food intake times 5 and still get hungry just as soon. It is very easy to have your inner cheapskate whispering in your ear about getting your money's worth and go back for another helping when you are clearly full.

That 2nd tip is so good. And I appreciate that you said it because it’s not a popular opinion in this community. I’ve been working on two things through an animal protein focused diet: getting better sleep and understanding/listening to my hunger rhythm. Both take the time to reset what I’ve been doing to my body all of these years

Great video , Kelly! I’m pretty sure I have leptin resistance. I already do 16:8 intermittent fasting with meals at 10:6. I’m working on less phone use and more sleep along with sunshine and walks. It was actually the walks and sunshine recommended by my practitioner esp after my morning meal to help me become a morning person.

Thank you Kelly!! I've noticed I have some issues of overstuffing myself but didn't know what to do about it other than just soldier on and hope that my body would eventually train itself to give me that sense of satiety after eating an appropriately sized meal. I've never heard of leptin resistance, I just knew that I really didn't get any signals to tell me when I was properly full, only when I'm too full. I'll be trying out some of these tips. Thank you for all you do for the carnivore community!

Kelly, you are a wonder to behold! You always do such an excellent job of compiling all the relevant information, presenting it clearly and succinctly, and not wasting a moment of air time! Your intro music has as much energy as you do.....akin to a roman candle lighting up the sky! I was curious about why you said fiber can cause problems for keto folks. I have experienced the opposite to be true but maybe it's partly because I'm in my 60's. I suffered greatly with constipation by listening to the advice that "you don't need fiber" until I gave it up and now my digestion is working much better (psyllium seed husks). Curious to hear your thoughts and thank you for your awesome channel!

This explains so much for me! I have never been a big breakfast eater, and by my teens I was having coffee first thing in the morning instead of eating. I was also vegetarian at the time. I felt like I could eat forever. Even after doing low carb and more paleo-ish diets I continued the coffee habit for many years until recently learning about circadian rhythm and appetite from carnivore yogi and Dr. Courtney Hunt. I have started eating from sun up to sundown only, as much as possible, and just getting as much sun and especially early AM sun as much as possible. I wait to have caffeine after I eat and have cut back significantly. I'm already getting full faster and feeling truly satiated. It took some getting used to because I used to think "full" was "stuffed." Between growing up on lots of starchy processed food and being vegetarian I was never truly nourished.

The same people who question how I was able to lose over 100 lbs. and my wife ~150 lbs. eating ZC. I've varied my way of eating quite a bit, all the way from ketovore to Lion. Really now though, I just eat what I want and occasionally eat things as varied as ground beef and eggs, every organ I can find when I want, to chicken fried in lard (no breading obviously.)
