There is a common misconception that getting lice means you're dirty, have bad hygiene.. in reality it just means you ended up in real close proximity to someone who gave you the lice. One of the things they didn't mention is that lice don't do well on a dirty scalp. Yes, you heard that right. If you keep your hair clean, they tend to survive longer. Your best bet is to wash your hair with vinegar (white vinegar is best, as the stronger acids eat away at the glue holding the nits on to the hair) and comb those bad boys out into a bowl of alcohol. They do NOT like being dislodged and will wiggle to get away, so make sure you use a toothpick to clean the tines between combings. And make sure you put the comb into alcohol afterward! Nits will hatch on a comb and seek blood to survive.

When I first got lice, my mom didn't realize until during my bath. While soaking in the tub is when a single louse lost its grip and floated in the bath water. My mom initially thought it was a funky-looking spider that fell in and killed it. Then she noticed another louse floating around and then realized my hair was infested after taking a closer look at the body. Even though combing them out was the only solution of getting rid of them, I sometimes wonder if leaving my hair soaking in bathwater would have caused all the lice to lose their grip and float everywhere.🤔

There are times I get rid of it but all my cousins which are like 9 of them, and they live near me, they all have lice even their moms so whenever I don’t have any they somehow they manage to give me some even if I have a braid or coconut oil in my hair. Been using the lice brush for years, I have super horirble hair because of it. Huge split ends, and cannot go to a hair dresser not even to get my purple highlights I’ve always wanted, it’s torture! And a lot of times I am just scratching my head in school and one gets stuck in my nail and have to get it out without no one seeing me, most of the times it falls on the desk or paper so I have to brush it off secretly. 😭

It was very embarrassing to even do a simple ponytail because it exposed the sprawling eggs underneath. Then they just gradually vanished as I grew older. Now I think it was a lifetime ago to think about head lice. Thanks for this video, really made me appreciate myself now as my head is louse-free. I'm sure other girls (and maybe boys) too who've had the same history must feel the same way.

Hi Recon SS. I produced this episode of Deep Look. Thank you for your comment. I believe you're referring to the soldiers during World War I who contracted trench fever, which is transmitted by clothing lice (also known as body lice). Clothing lice are essentially the same species as head lice, but make a living very differently from head lice. Clothing lice live and lay their eggs inside the clothes of people who aren't able to change often enough, such as soldiers in the trenches. These lice travel to the parts of the body under the clothes and feed on blood. While feeding, they can transmit diseases. Cheers, Gabriela

As a person who still gets them this video was a good piece of information. I don't need to go to salons as I am a professional in getting rid of the lice myself 😂. It's the training worth of years still coming in use. Head lice aren't rly a sign of bad hygiene or simply being referred to as dirty. You get them from people who already have them or having your hair enclosed in a cloth(hijab like myself) which can create a good environment for it to breed on. Just make sure to comb using a lice comb daily esp in summers and u r good to go!

not to make paranoia worse but if she does happen to get lice, make sure to comb with wet hair for easier removal- wet lice stays still and doesn't move. it is also known that washing hair only makes it easier for lice to stick, but lice will grab hold no matter what.

I remember my agony for having them in about 4-5 years and I tell you, there was more to it than agony and disgust, there was humiliation too. My mother tried different solutions like lice shampoos, coconut oil, etc. But none of them worked and it was truly heartbreaking. I remember my classmates and other strangers mocking my hair. But then, a miracle happened. I simply switched my hair shampoo for dandruff (even though I did not have dandruff at the time) to just a normal one that I longed to use (since it was pink and fragrant). And voila, my head lice suddenly disappeared! I've been lice-free for about 2 years now and I simply can't be happier. I don't know the science behind my experience but alas, it worked for me. Just never give up upon finding a solution and it will surely come to you in the least expected ways. :)) ❤
