I have put 6000 miles on my new Sportster S in the 8weeks I have owned it. I am 72 years old, 5'6" and 160 lb. The first week, I installed mid controls and windshield and made it MUCH better. My longest day so far was 870 miles in 16 hours and I rode it comfortably to work the next day.

Good day Sir. I, like you, took possession of my Sportster S last October. I am getting closer to 60 than to 50 anymore. I have 19 pcs. Titanium in my spine from getting hit from behind during Bike Week 1997. I haven't had any issues with all day comfort as of yet. I hope I never do either.

Great video Ty! I also have a 2021 S, with 3100 miles on it. It's still got the stock seat, although I also added the windshield ( which, like you, I waited over 6 months for), and the engine guard. I've ridden as much as 250 miles in a day, and really haven't felt that bad at the end, and I'm pushing 64 years old! I may consider the sundowner seat, since you highly recommended it, just to see how much difference there is, but I don't wanna wait 6 months for that!! Keep up the cool vids!

The 100 mile range, allows you to get off, and stretch the legs. I upgraded to the sundowner seat, as I nearly slipped of the back a few times, due to the torque. The sundowner is twice as thick as the original seat, and it’s really comfortable. I’ve had the bike 5 months and have 3500 miles on it. Just replaced the front tyre, as it was done.

I managed four hours on the stock bike and the last hour only because I had to get home. I replaced the seat and added the windshield. The 20mm up/ 20mm back riser is due on the 20th. It is hard to blame the bike while trying to compensate for my age, when trying to extend saddle time. The market is starting to saturate with aftermarket parts. If people complain about how far they can travel in comfort then they should have paid half the price and gotten a KLR. If you wanted a street bike you could convert for travel, well the Sportster S has the aftermarket, you just have to pay for it.

Sundowner seat, HD windshield makes big difference. I also found a Pair of Arlen Ness foot pegs that are like a super mini floor boards that make a big difference also as there is no slip and great firm placement. HD does offer some handle bar choices, but I don’t have a problem with the aggressive posture. Longest ride for me was 3 days all day, had almost no issue until I was almost home. It was 100 degrees though. Biggest problem is storage. My jacket is needed morning’s at high elevation and not needed at 100 degrees. Factoring jacket and water, I was very limited for the minimal necessities. Would love a big swing arm bag for the Sportster S big swing arm.

I just think cruise control pegs would be nice. Took my sportster s from dayton ohio to port clinton ohio and only issue was I could use a bit more stretching room for my legs. Maybe even some floorboards would help idk.

With the Sundowner saddle, riding time is up to a couple of hours; butt, the posterior is going to be sore before that. (butt pun intended) Honestly I can ride the Sportster S for about an hour without soreness. Another way to look at this is in terms of miles. After 50 to 60 miles I'm going to be sore and need to get off and walk around a bit. Don't even think of riding this motorcycle all day; at any age, you're going to be sorry. Why is this? Its two things: 1) weight of the bike, and 2) the bike's stiff suspension. If you're going to have just one motorcycle, the Sportster S isn't it; period. Suspension The bike is just heavy enough, and just firm enough, to transmit 100% of all unevenness of the road directly to the coccyx (tailbone). Over a very short time (at any age) this is going to feel, after an hour of riding, like you fell on black ice and landed on your ass. Don't let anyone kid you, it doesn't matter how young and healthy you are. I have discussed this with Sportster S riders all over the united states, and they ALL have this problem. Some of the suspension difficulty can be "dialed" out (as it were) with the preload settings, which are easy to do. This does not mitigate the problem; rather, it just stretches out the time in the saddle just a bit. Weight There is nothing that can be done with the primary cause of coccydynia on the Sportster S. The bike weighs in at about 502 Lbs. Well, what primarily makes my Heritage Springer Softail comfortable (and its not the saddle)? Its an 800 Lbs bike, and its got a springer front fork, also heavier with a lot more give. The weight of the bike combined with the 'give' of the suspension keep road unevenness off the coccyx. So, there you have it. This bike is a beautiful second bike, is a blast to ride, and for running errands and commuting to work in a typical urban setting (or carving up the twisties) is just plain fun to ride. But, the RH1250S is NOT a touring motorcycle, and if you ride it all day, you're going to hurt (bad). Go head-on young punks, I dare you! Now, the good news is that I'm 65 (fifteen years Ty's senior) and being 65 doesn't make it any worse. If you're healthy and relatively strong, you're going to get a couple of hours out of the Sportster S without serious discomfort. After that, well, getting off and walking around for 20 - 30 minutes helps a lot. marcus

Marcus - If there was a first place for comments you would win every single time. I appreciate your well crafted thoughts so very much. I think I still get sore and beat up from time to time based on my motorcycle accident that happened about two years ago. Still suffering through some aches and pains, I guess. Have a great day sir and ride safe out there!

I agree, I much prefer forward controls it just feels natural to me on this motorcycle , I may add some bar risers or the new tracker bars which have just been released. Living in Scotland I think we’re just starting to see some decent aftermarket accessories. Worthy of note I live near the area where HD did the promotional video in Scottish highlands where the roads are very twisty and this bike excels in this environment, just don’t stray to far from a petrol ( gas) station 👍

I was never a sporty guy but was a Dyna guy. Rode one to the grand canyon and back. It takes a lot more endurance to ride these bikes in distance over a touring bike. 400 miles on a small bike and you want off. 600 miles on a touring bike and you're like lets stop and get dinner/adult beverage before hitting the hotel. I change my seats on all my bikes. I usually run Mustang but I am really beginning to be a Danny Grey seat fan.

We put the Reach handle bars on the S and now my wife has less stress on her back and can ride all day without discomfort. The bars will give the rider a more upright position without the leaning forward default position. Plus, we put the mid controls on for her shorter inseam. All of the hand controls fit without needing extended cables so the install took 20 minutes.
