Just checked my little canister. Mine’s been unopened for over a year. Also still full. There is a trick to keeping them air tight. You have to leave the cap off the nipple when screwing the top on. It allows the air pressure to escape while tightening the top down. I hope that makes sense lol.

I have maybe 6 or 7 of these. I had one that didn't hold the fluid, it wasn't just evaporating it was leaking. I took it back to the store I bought it from and they said they did have some that did have leaking issues. They gave me a new one and it's been fine the last 8 plus years.

You know, Zippo could be making a small fortune on a sealed "peanut style" lighter like this. Zippo's #1 complaint is evaporation / unable to store a full lighter long term. A fun project for you if you ever get bored. You probably have the spare parts. Really all you need is a sealed flint tube & wheel mounted to the tip with the

Yeah true, however the peanut lighter is 2 hand operated unless you can unscrew with 1 hand, some people can I guess, but is it worth the effort? I guess it depends on the user. Plus Exotac already has the huge windproof peanut so there is that.

@@cemetery895Doesn't necessarily need to be a traditional round peanut lighter. They just need a gasket/sealed tank. I know why they don't care to design something like that.. yearly naphtha sales would slowly decline because people wouldn't be wasting as much fuel to evaporation. All they need is an armor with a gasket around the middle or top of the insert added with a gasket sealed lid. Maybe sealed shut with a small latch.. like many cheap butane survival torches

@@doejon9424 Yeah I agree actually, I wish they would incorporate their own version of a insert gasket/internal fuel tank in the future, would definitely try it. But yeah it is hard to find a one hand operated lighter fluid lighter that is completely sealed, I just realized this recently.

It lasts about the same as the Zippo/Ronson containers I think. It works great with Zorro's metal gasket insert, if you don't have many keys (I only have house and car) it is a great EDC since you can leave your Zippo empty until you need windproof fires.

It takes two of them to fill my Zippo up I have two and a half strips of cotton bacon in my lighter I cut the strips into five pieces and pack them side by side to the top and I have the felt inside also and the wick is between each layer and I have a half a strip behind the tube

I just pulled mine out of my military chest after 4 years (Going to send it in because the chain and flint holder snap off after a few weeks.). I thought it was empty till I cracked it open and fluid started running down my hand. I'd say the fluid would last in a properly sealed tank for Decades.

i bought mine and its leaking since the day i filled it. The rubber seal (the big one) is too small and it falls out. Im dissapointed with zippos quality tbh
