Another great video. Very informative. Especially the KV settings. I too am using a Eastwood gun. The PCS 1000 Hotcoat. Although I’ve seen videos of second coats going on with no problems, I’ve also read that second coats are difficult with this setup. The KV,s are adjustable but not the UA,s. And I read that is what makes second coats stick better. Any thoughts? Thanks and keep the great vids coming.👍

Maybe late comment on this video, but i'll try.. I'm just curious how you track a temperature of a part or a wheel? Because powder has to be baked at X ammount of degrees for X ammount of time. And every part is different, different materials reaches temp. differently too. Is it eyeballig from experience or there is some techniques? Because now I'm just cheking temp with digital temp meter ant start the timer when I see part has reached desired temperature. Also how over baking or under baking affects the end result of paint? BIG regards ant thank tou for creating this type of content, greeting from the middle of Europe.

@@Hoxer30 because nobody asked how long it takes from start to finish. They asked how long each process takes. Not everyone chem strips, not every one blasts their own products, not everyone tapes pads, not everyone sprays two stages. Lots of variables. @@UnknownCoatings Agreed. Sandblasting rims as far as stripping SUCKS. I have no chemical stripper here either, so I'm forced to do it. With enough CFM behind your blaster, it shouldn't be too terrible.....but some factory wheel finishes are a nightmare to remove by force.

Hey, stumbled across your videos a few weeks ago. Really liking the content so far. I have a few qustions if you dont mind, I do custom tig welding and fabrication and got into coating as a hobby that quickly became a feature of my shop as a one stop for building and coating. I started with the eastwood gun and upgraded pretty fast to the hyper smooth 02 gun. One problem I seem to get is that I am not getting enough cloud on my powder. I run 10-20 psi. I run the hoppers provided with the gun but have been looking at the Fluidized hoppers. Are they worth the upgrade? If i turn my air up past 20 psi I seem to get enough cloud but so much air is passing that it blows the powder off at 12" away. I also was curious about your blasting set up. I also use 30-60 grit media and have the same gun. I use a 3.2mm(1/8") tip and my air is 20 CFM @ 90 Psi, I was wondering what nozzle tip you use and how much CFM you have behind the media as it seems to be a bit faster. I dont have the chemical stripper yet but I take 15-25 minutes per 20" wheel. I would die for the chemical stripper but its been hard to find anything that will ship to Canada. 50 gal drum of B17 is about $3000 to get to me. I tried to call the number you had posted for your chemical guy but no answer. Lastly, What do you do about the center caps on most wheels. mostly plastic, I have thought about trying to heat them up with a heat gun and putting powder on them. Most people here want Gloss black which is fine for painting or dipping them but with the custom colors how do you handle this or just leave it on the client? Hope to hear back and keep up the insightful videos. Thanks

I use the original hoppers, the new ones I see seem to get tons of complaints.I will try to do a video with my hoppers. Anyone can make these for under 20 bucks. Expect a video in the next week showing them, since a bunch of you guys have asked. Id say your issue is directly associatd with the newer style hoppers. They just suck. Well try the number I have posted in the last few videos. Ask for Matt. I know GreenSolv is there in canada, expensive and needs to be heated, but a great product. my blasting setup is all covered in the Equipment video, episode 23 I think it is. I tend to avoid center caps. If anything I get a paint matched in a spray can by a local auto body supply store.

@UnknownCoatings

Well the biggest reason is I dont want acid or acid soaked paint/powder spraying around my shop or more specifically in my face. But I neutralize it because treating the water in my wash out tank and if its super acidic that treatment takes FOR EVER.

@@randolfdy6963 ah ok In that case I can give you some guidelines for pricing but it really varies depending on your location and what it costs you. First thing to know is that blasting is usually priced on a per minute basis. Anywhere from 2-3$ a minute is a fair price to charge your customers. Rims are usually 80-120 each to powdercoat, and they usually take 7-15 minutes a rim to sandblast, depending on size, and what they're coated with (if it is powdercoated it takes longer to blast). Patio furniture usually runs around 60-80 a chair to coat, and 100-120 a table to coat plus blast. Blast times for chairs can range anywhere from 15-25 minutes and table blast times range from 20-30 minutes. Keep in mind that you can not blast die cast aluminum without pitting it severely. You can invest in a chemical stripper like benco b-17 to strip powdercoated items like rims. If you need anymore tips or help let me know.

Too many variables. I can't say it takes x amount of time. A factory BMW style 101 is gonna take way longer than an RPF1 and ambient air temperature is going to play a huge role in that. This video was to show how long processes take that are somewhat consistent. Ultimately if you can't figure the rest out, it's likely you aren't powder coating anyways....
